Proposing!

Calimama wrote: Did you know when your DH was going to propose or was it a complete surprise? If you were the one who proposed do you think they had any idea it was coming?

I had no idea. I was 17 and DH was 24 and we had been doing long distance for our entire relationship (since I was basically 15). He was in CA in the Marines and I was in Texas. He came down for Christmas and proposed in December 04, 2 months before he left for Iraq, and we were married October 5th, 2005. 3 days after he returned. wub.gif

lovemy2 replied: I knew it was coming but had no idea when - I was sitting watching TV eating spagetti one nite after school (I was going to college and working full time at the time) and the dog came into the room with my ring around her neck on a shiny silver ribbon - I started to say Maxi has something on her neck when I realized what it was- I jumped up so excited that I couldn't get the dog to come to me cause she thought I wanted to play chase with her wub.gif

grapfruit replied:
Aww that's sweet! smile.gif

Tim said "when he's ready" he's going to give me a taco bell packet that says, "will you marry me" dry.gif I really hope he's kidding.

We were in IN when he saw it and gasped when he saw it and almost made me drop my taqueto b/c he scared me. emlaugh.gif

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Well I went with him to pick out the ring, but wasn't exactly sure when he was going to propose. I was in a friends wedding and we stayed in a hotel that night and that is when he asked me!!!

moped replied: Ttoal surprise to me!

grapfruit replied:
Did he do something romantic??

moped replied:
No not really - I was getting ready to go out with soem freinds and was in the bathroom mirror doing my hair and he came up and started acting strange, then pulled out a ring........

Kaitlin'smom replied: I knew just not when, actually he was suppose to wait till our 1 year ann, which was my senior prom (I was 18 then), however I had no clue he had picked something out and in layaway well once he got his taxes back he paid for it and could not wait and proposed that day, Feb 20th a saturday. I just got home from work and he was all gitty comming up my parents drive way and just could not waite and got down on one knee in my bedroom and poped the question.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Well, I had no idea. We were living together and I'd been throwing out the "I won't do this forever" vibe. But I wasn't expecting it. I got home from work on the morning they posted the Idaho Bar Exam results, I worked the night shift. Aaron made me stay up with him and check the results online. He passed and we danced around the office computer. Then he got on one knee and asked me to marry him. Said he knew it wasn't the most romantic proposal, but that he'd been planning to ask regardless of the bar results.

MoonMama replied: Total surprise.

Danalana replied: I had already picked out the rings, and I knew he had already gone and gotten them. We went out on a date...we ate at Outback and then walked around the mall. On the way back, he pulled over at a church and we both got out--it was a beautiful, breezy night. He got the ring out of his pocket and then asked me if I would be his wife wub.gif It was very sweet and simple. The next day, we bought an SUV! laugh.gif

mummy2girls replied: still waiting tongue.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: Pretty much a surprise although I had just showed him a ring I liked online, didn't know he had already special ordered mine. I figured it was coming because we had just gotten back together after a "get married or break up" break up.

zdk753 replied: It was a total surprise considering we had only been dating for 2 wks.

amymom replied: Let's see.... we had been dating about a month and he had called my office about 2 or 3 times. My secretary came in, sat down and said: You are going to marry him. I thought it was unusual so that night I told him what she said and finished the story with... Should we? He said "Well, I think so". So that is when we decided to get married. That was the beginning of July. Then we decided to get engaged for Thanksgiving. So we picked out the ring, and he was to pick it up Tuesday or Wednesday and then we were going to get 'engaged' Wednesday night and announce it Thanksgiving day. On Tuesday night we were out with friends and he gave me a small shirt box wrapped up. He said something to keep your hands warm. I opened it and there was one of those ice scrapers that have a warm fur handle. He said try it out... well it was cold out, but had not snowed yet. I put my hand inside and there was the ring box. Anyone else would have seen it coming, but I was totally surprised... silly me. Here it is 23 years later and I guess my secretary was right. tongue.gif

Mommy2Isabella replied: I TOTALLY didn't see it coming!! It was very romantic, almost cinderella like! smile.gif ...

amymom replied:
Well, what is the story??

luvbug00 replied: try #1: it stunk no ring involoved found out he was a cheating the next morning
try#2: un emotional , blahhhhh, i bought the ring..( BIG no no! imo)

as for a 3rd ?... not gonna jinx it..we'll see.

grapfruit replied:
oOo yeah tell us! biggrin.gif

A&A'smommy replied: It is SOOOO funny that you posted this!!! A really good couple friends of ours got engaged last night with all of us there (at the fire work show over the speaker bawling.gif love2.gif ) and she was completely surprised, she seriously stopped breathing!!! bawling.gif love2.gif

Anyway yes I knew, I was getting really ill too because I waited ALL day valentines day, I KNEW he had the ring and I knew what it looked like (i picked it out) I just didn't know how or where... it wasn't really romantic except for the fact that my parents got engaged at the same place just in a different spo, he didn't know that but it was still kinda cool!! tongue.gif I cried anyway though when he finally asked me and gave me the ring tongue.gif

msoulz replied: These are such fun stories!

I knew something was up by how he and others were acting but I thought it was something bad. I was studying very hard for the CPA exam and I thought that there was a really bad thing going on that they were trying not to tell me until after I took the exam. I asked him several times what is going on and he kept telling me nothing, but he was pretty amazed that I picked up on the whole thing despite being wrong about it being bad. It turns out it was a good thing!!! wub.gif

Oh, I forgot to mention that when he did propose I thought he was kidding (because he is a joking kind of guy) until he produced a box, which I opened and then threw across the room because I was so excited (the ring was inside, of course). rolling_smile.gif

grapfruit replied:
ohmy.gif You threw your ring!?!? emlaugh.gif That probably freaked him out a little! LoL! rolling_smile.gif

Mommy2Isabella replied: I will have to tell my proposal story in the P&I forum ... lol

moped replied:
Oh please do!

msoulz replied:
He understood - he had to produce a ring for me to believe him, and I peeked in the box then chucked the ring and threw myself at him! No one and nothing was hurt in the process . . . emlaugh.gif

msoulz replied:
Now I may just have to join that forum!! tongue.gif

HuskerMom replied:
That's so sweet! How exciting for your friends!

It was a surprise for me. We had talked about getting married but that's all it was was talk. So we were driving around Lincoln all day, not really doing anything. Come to find out later he was looking for a good spot to propose. Well we took country roads on the way home (we lived about a half and hour from Lincoln) and all of a sudden he pulls over in the middle of nowhere and tells me to get out of the car. So we're walking down this little hill to the Big Blue river (I think that's what it was called) and all of a sudden he turns around with the ring, gets down on one knee and proposed. I was so surprised, I said yes and then started crying cuz I was so happy. wub.gif

He told me later that about a month before that when he told me he had to go into work on a saturday he actually went to Lincoln with his friend to buy the ring. wub.gif He never ceases to amaze me. wub.gif wub.gif

CantWait replied: It was a complete surprise here. We had only been dating about 2 years, (already had Robbie).

DH had been overseas in Bosnia and when he came back he took me out to dinner. He kept saying that I could go anywhere I wanted, he kept hinting at something fancy, but I had choosen a cheesy lobster place. After dinner we went to a hotel for the night, and he handed me a puzzle box that the croatians make. It took me about 20 minutes or so to open the box, and when I did there was the ring. (I'm not quite sure how things transpired after that LOL)
