QUICK NEED HELP - BROKEN ANKLE/KNEE ?

CantWait wrote: I just fell down the stairs and landed HARD on my foot. I got a HUGE lump on both my ankle and the opposite knee. Nothing feels broken, but I don't know. I can still walk, so does that mean everything is somewhat ok and not broken. unsure.gif
Ron is gone out and he didn't take the cell phone, I have no way to get ahold of him and I'm freaking out. bawling.gif
I leave for training on Sunday and I need everything to be ok. sad.gif
I'm icing 15 on 15 off.

My3LilMonkeys replied: hug.gif hug.gif In my experience, if you can walk it's probably not too serious. It wouldn't hurt to get checked out though.

I hope everything is OK. hug.gif

moped replied: If you can walk it is not broken, I think............

Maybe a quick check by a doc if you feel soemthing is wrong though

amynicole21 replied: If you can rotate your ankle and bend the knee, you are probably fine. Keep up with the ice and wait until the morning to see what's going on. Hope you are ok! hug.gif

luvmykids replied: I think if it were a true break you'd be in indescribable pain, however a fracture or bad sprain can be almost as painful. If the swelling doesn't go down I'd get it looked at hug.gif

Calimama replied: I agree, if it was a major break... you'd know. I'd still go in to be sure, my mom walked on a fractured ankle. rolleyes.gif I hope it's nothing serious hun. hug.gif hug.gif

sparkys2boys replied: GOSH Marie.. u ok?? Did you go see the doctor? KUP, hope you are ok hug.gif

CantWait replied: Nope I didn't go see a doctor. I waited till Ron got home and he said that I just rolled my ankle good. It's still quite puffy, and it hurts a bit when I walk on it, so I'll just have to take it easy for a couple days.

Great excuse not to have to go to the gym tomorrow. wink.gif

luvmykids replied: Hope you're all mended up by Sunday hug.gif Are you keeping it elevated?

redchief replied: Take it easy, Marie. Elevate, stay with the cold on and off regimen you've already been doing. I hope all goes OK.

Calimama replied:
I'm glad it's not broken. I hope the pain isn't too bad for you tonight. hug.gif

CantWait replied:
Oh yes, elevated and iced. Just gives me less housework to do before I go away is all tongue.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: I broke my foot at one time and I could walk on it
Even tho the idiot reading the X Ray was stupid
My foot Dr picked it up when I had ankle problems he was like did you break your foot I said no he said this says diffrent and showed me I said thats why I still get pain in the area bc it didnt heal right he said we could rebreak it I said not now unless it gets really bad lol

MommyToAshley replied: Ouch, Marie... that sounds painful. Maybe you should have it checked, just in case.

I'm sorry.... Hope you feel better. hug.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: how is it today?

hope its feeling better.

CantWait replied:
Thanks for asking.

It actually hurts a bit more. I'm just trying to stay off it, and still have ice on. I'll see how it is tomorrow and then I'll get it checked out if it's still bad.

jcc64 replied: I believed as many people here do that if you could use it, it must not be broken. My gf did too, and she didn't take her son for x-rays until after the w/e, during which he walked around on it, albeit gingerly. To make a long story short, it WAS broken, and he significantly damaged it further by walking on it, to the point that he needed surgery to stabilize it. Took 4 solid months to heal, and he still walks with a little limp. Take the time to go see a dr, hon- it's worth the few minutes of hassle in the long run. hug.gif

redchief replied:
As Jeanne said, be careful. While adults aren't normally as questionable as far as bone injury level because adult bones are more hard and more often break than fracture, that doesn't mean you can't have a fracture in there. Especially with the foot, because there are a lot of bones that come together in the ankle. If it hurts, keep the weight off of it. If it doesn't get better, get it X-Rayed before you start using it much.

I really hope it heals quickly for you.

CantWait replied: It's feeling better this evening.

redchief replied: That's good news, Marie. smile.gif

amymom replied: thumb.gif

coasterqueen replied: Hope you are feeling better today, Marie. hug.gif

CantWait replied:
A bit better. I can pretty much walk on my whole foot. Still can't put a lot of pressure on it, like standing only on that foot, and I won't be running for the next week or so. I should be good for my training.

Thanks for asking everyone. hug.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied:
Make sure you keep it braced most of the time for support. With injuries like this one, it's REALLY easy to re injure it until it's completely healed. If you've ripped ligments (and it's likely you have), a re injury could result in a break. BTDT unfortunately!! Hope it heals well and quickly!
