Question - About baby bag For hospital
beautifullychaotic wrote: Okay what exactly do I need to take with me to the hospital for the little man?
I am wondering b/c since I sat down to do this I have gone from a fully fuctioning clear thing adult to a scatteredbrained babbling spazamo!
I know I am going overboard with this b/c it doesn't all seem to fit in the diaper bag. Honestly I am begining to think if I had my way I would pack the dang nursery.
So umm yeah can someone clue me in on the basics that I need b4 I blindly walk off the edge of mommy-to-be insanity
Jamison'smama replied: Are you talking about just for him or for you as well?
What does your hospital provide? Mine had all the diapers, wipes, blankets and little shirts for her. I provided a special blanket for her, an outfit for pictures and a going home outfit. I also had a pillow I brought from home--she slept on that pillow often. I really didn't need much for her.
Is your bag packed with more stuff for him or for you? I had lots of stuff for me--much more than I needed. I could give you a whole list of that stuff
But one of the best things I brought was my own pillow (in a pillowcase other than white to keep it seperated).
I also brought lip balm and lavender room spray. I also brought my own undies even though they provide the nasty mesh kind--some people love those--I hated them. I brought music for labor then sent it home with my DH, bring your baby book--the hospital will put the footprints in there for you.
I will edit as I think of more stuff
irinam replied: Just bring yourself to the hospital
You WILL forget something and you WILL bring unnecessary stuff. It's OK!
What the baby will REALLY need is your hands, your boobs and a blanket to be wrapped in.
You will have that.
Than goes NICE TO HAVE stuff
Lots of stuff is provided by the hospital and some actually give you a check list as what to bring.
Now if you are like me you absolutely have to bring anything that MIGHT be needed , so here is what I got just now from the Internet
- Robe or nightgown to wear after delivery - Socks, in case your feet become cold - Toiletries, such as toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, lotion, makeup, hairbrush or comb, and deodorant - Hair dryer and/or curling iron - Phone numbers of people you’ll want to call – and a calling card for long-distance calls - Pacifier for baby (might want to forgo that, some babies might not be eager to breastfeed if introduced to pacifier right away) - BABY NAME BOOK…. if you haven’t decided yet! - A going-home outfit for you. Remember you won’t fit your pre-pregnancy clothes just yet - Clothes for baby, including outfit for photos, going home outfit, such as a T-shirt, stretch suite and booties - Receiving blanket and warmer blankets, snowsuit or bunting, depending on the weather - Car seat for baby!
Good luck and easy delivery to you!

paradisemommy replied: i ended up packing WAY too much stuff and would suggest only bringing the bare necessities. i never used my pj's and bathrobe that i brought from home. i did use my own underwear but not until like the 2nd or 3rd day - i had an emergency c-section so i was there for 3 nights. you bleed so much and it's just easier to use all their stuff so that yours doesn't get all messed up, if you kwim! i had little trial sizes of a healing garden that i brought and absolutely loved along with lotion. the call list is a definite must especially after the first night. i brought my cell phone and used that to call everyone! bring socks - the hospital was pretty cold so it was nice and warm with those. an outfit for home and an outfit for baby - the hospital will take care of the rest..hth some!!
TeagansMom609 replied: I brought a couple sleepers for her but she ended up being too small to fit in the 0-3 month clothes so she ended up just wearing the little clothes the nursery put on her, which was fine with me because I think I was too exhausted to even attempt to dress her. Haha! Also the hospital gave us about 3 recieving blankets even though I brought my own we just used thiers because their alot bigger then the store bought ones and seemed alot easier to fold her up in. The hospital really gives you alot.
amynicole21 replied: The one thing that was really handy for me was the boppy pillow (if you are planning to nurse). I wore the hospital gown almost the whole time I was there and kept Sophia in the t-shirt the hospital provided. I was too freaked out by her to be changing her clothes all the time I brought one outfit for pics and that was it. Didn't use anything but hospital diapers, wipes, blankets, etc. You really don't need that much!
beautifullychaotic replied: Thanks for all of the advice.
LOL when Dave got home he burst out laughing at me He was like there is no way he is going to need all that stuff hun He pulled out 2 sleepers a gown 2 or three hats, socks, and outfit for pictures that he liked. 3 blankies and some diapers. Low and behold it all fit
My bag is all packed been so for about a month now.
I am taking ratty old jammies that I don't care if they get ruined. actually its just the bottoms for tops I am taking 2 nursing tank tops and a zip front hoodie in case i get chilly
Thanks for the baby book idea I never even thought of that!
kimberley replied: don't forget your camera!! the pictures i treasure the most are the one's taken moments after birth. it is so surreal to think a few minutes before that picture, that big baby was inside me! the first time Jamie went to touch Jade as the nurse was cleaning her up, she reached out and grabbed his finger... a precious moment forever caught on film.
kit_kats_mom replied: [FONT=Arial]ITA with the other ladies. Also, bring a spiral notebook and a pen. YOu will have people popping in and out all the time telling you things that you probably should remember but with all the excitement you may forget. I wrote everything down. It also came in handy for recording nursing times, diaper changes etc.
And for the baby??? Our hospital put her in a wrap shirt & provided diapers & wipes, a blanket and a hat. I had a take home outfit for her, a baby nail file (those newborn nails can be wicked!), my boppy, an extra blanket & a Womb sounds bear that I kept in her basinet.
mama3x replied: When I had DS 12 yrs ago, I didn't take anything for him to the hospital. The nurse told me just to bring his go-home outfit on our go-home day and to have the car seat installed the car. Less chance of our things getting mixed up with the hospital's. They gave us a baby shirt but it was way too big.
Even though DD came home from the NICU, the instructions were basically the same except they asked me to leave the go-home outfit the night before so they could dress her and take a pic.
If you live far from the hospital, you may want to keep an extra diaper and travel pack of wipes in the car. Don't forget a blanket if it's cold where you are.
For me, I took too much the first time around and with DD with no warning...I had nothing. DH brought me my brush, a jacket, toothbrush and toothpaste and I think that was it until I came home.
Jamison'smama replied: Maybe for others it was different but I needed gowns not pajamas with bottoms because the first couple of days the "checked me" constantly---I did have a c-section but I would imagine any stitches would require checking as well and would have been painful if I would have had to bend to remove pj's---I had nursing gowns---you know, the kind where your boobs peek through the holes when you have company
Good luck!!
Alice replied: Advice you didn't ask for:
Of course there's the car seat. They won't let you take him home without it. They can be nuisance to install, so don't let it wait until the last minute, or DH may end up doing it in a thundrstorm.
Stock up now on paper plates, soda, and stuff you can feed to all the people who drop by with a baby gift-- and Thank You notes & stamps as well. Buy tons!! (Any you don't use now can be saved for the Christening/ Bris or whatever.)
Also, stock the freezer with anything you can make and freeze ahead of time. Those first 5 or 6 weeks, you're getting by on no sleep (baby feeds every few hours) and your driving is limited (well, it's supposed to be! Not everyone follows that rule.) Your body will need real food. So do as much as you can ahead of time, and make a file of anyplace that delivers, with a copy of their menu.
Try to get caught up on laundry if you can. Again, lifting and carrying baskets of laundry are a no-no in the beginning.
If you don't already have one, think about getting one of the Baby Einstein videos/DVDs. They're the best way I know to get 30 minutes of peace from a 2-month old. (because by then, you'll be back to cooking dinner and will need 30 minutes!)
Good luck.. what an exciting time for you and your family!!
PS- I suffered from a severe case of the Ditz hormone with my pregnancies too!!
A&A'smommy replied: OMG Kimberley that is an absolutly BEAUTIFUL picture!!
