Question (It's kind of gross)

Nina J wrote: For the past week I've had really bad diarrhea. So bad that I'll wake up from a deep sleep and need to run to the toilet. I havn't made any changed to my diet, but I need to use the bathroom 2-3 times a day for number two's.
Could this just be a normal part of pregnancy, or not? I never experienced it with Emily.
I thought perhaps it was getting better, because I went to the toilet normally, no diarrhea, yesterday, but now it's back again dry.gif
Any idea's what's going on? Should I go to the doctors? I've always been a bit hesitant to go to the doctor with things like this, because about 5 years ago I went with bowel problems and the doctor yelled at me and told me I was wasting his time sad.gif

Sorry this is a bit TMI blush.gif

EvesMom replied: Often when you near the end of your pregnancy, the body cleans itself out per say, to prepare for labor. You still have a few weeks left tho. Perhaps a virus? You can try to eat foods/drink high in potassium(bananas/ oj). Hope you feel better! hug.gif

Bee_Kay replied: Well... shame on that doctor that told you that you were wasting his time.. what a jerk!

Well, I would definately drink ALOT of fluid (you dont want to dehydrate). Also, it wouldn't hurt to at least call a doctor smile.gif

luvmykids replied: Hope this isn't tmi but I swear theres a link between hormones and diarrhea, I get it every month at that time so I think it could have something to do with pg.

Bee_Kay replied:
Monica.... so do I. Almost every month at AF time, something goes all funky with my digestive system.
I am thinking either hormones or maybe the AF cramping effects digestions??

MyLuvBugs replied:
That's exactly what I was thinking. Have you noticed any contractions associated with the diahrea? It's possible your body is just getting ready. Mine did that the week I gave birth. Just a couple times though, and then the day I went into labor....Oh look out! It was (sorry if TMI) but a TOTAL body cleanse. smile.gif

I'd definately talk to the dr. b/c you don't want to get dehydrated if it is just a virus. Better to be safe than sorry KWIM? smile.gif

ilovemybaby replied: I had that last time with Abby - not just in the last month ... basically throughout my pregnancy. Not every day though.
I have had it once this time.
I also got it whenever I had my monthly. I think it has something to do with our hormones too.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I also remember having it when I got closer to my due date. I think it's totally hormone related. But if it's upsetting your stomach and/or making you dehydrated at all, call your doc.

holley79 replied: I would talk to my doctor just to be on the safe side. I had the same thing with Annika about 2 or 3 weeks before I had her. I would have it for a few days then would go a day or two normal then it would be back. But I would still ask...

AlexsPajamaMama replied:
Happens to me too!

My2Beauties replied: I've heard of this happening, I never had that problem when preggo only because I was anemic and I was on 2 big iron pills a day (looked like horse pills) so you know what Iron does to ya - makes ya pretty darn firm blush.gif BUt I always have this problem around AF now too and I've heard of friends doing this as well before baby was born, usually the last month of pregnancy. Matter of fact I went to a baby shower last weekend, my friend is due in 4 weeks and she told me she has been having awful diarrhea. Google it and see if you find something.

pinniy replied: Hi! At the end of both my pregnancies, one of which I'm at the end of right now, I get the same thing. It's a normal part of pregnancy, just remember to drink extra water. My Dr. said it was okay to take Imodium, which I try to only take it when I'm really needing to make it through a few hours (i.e. my recent trip by aircraft).

I also agree with the ladies, as for shaming your Dr. That was uncalled for. I'll tell you, sometimes, they lose sense any and all sense of compassion.

From MY experiences, ALWAYS listen to your body. When I was ready to have Trei-Trei, I went through "this" for 3-4 weeks, but had done some research about the body "cleansing itself out," so I dealt with it. Then one night I vomitted as soon as I ate, which I hadn't done the WHOLE pregnancy. I called the labor and delivery at my hospital, and the nurse said there was a bug going around, and to just take a warm bath and drink fluids, BUT if I really was concerned to head in (although I think she was trying to insist I don't). Let's just say, I listened to my body, and headed in at about 3 in the morning. They hydrated me, and said they were just going to monitor me for the day. Next thing you know, my water broke... Yeah, so much for a bug. So, like I said before, listen to your body. NOBODY knows what you're feeling better than you. My suggestion, though, is to stay hydrated, and if you start to vomit, you might want to stay alert. It could be your body's way of telling you that it may not have enough time to digest...
