Quit Smoking Crew - Experiment
luvmykids wrote: I thought I'd post this here so everyone would see it, from now on do you want to post about this in General Health? That way everyone knows where to find it.
Also, I did an experiment that some of you might find helpful. My problem when I've tried to quit in the past is when the bad cravings hit and I cave. So this time, not only have I been thinking about triggers, what to do when a craving hits, etc, but I've actually been practicing. This weekend I bought a pack and told myself it was the only one I could buy, no running out and getting more. When a craving hit I did my best to get through it but had the comfort zone of being able to have one if it got toooooo terrible. It actually has given me some confidence, as each one hit I was able to go longer and longer over the course of the weekend. My best time was yesterday, I went 9 hours without giving in! I'm usually a pack a day, but the pack I bought Friday actually had 3 left last night!
This way, you get used to dealing with them, when one hits I'll be better prepared and not in that panic state when you've quit and freak out when the cravings get really bad.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Good idea for an experiment, Monica!
WTG on the 9hours!!
kayla's mama replied: WTG on the 9 hours
Thats a good experiment. Kinda like weaning yourself off, so to say!!!!
BAC'sMom replied: WTGG congrats on 9 hours. Sounds like a great idea I'll have to try it.
luvmykids replied: The only difference between it and weaning is that I really didn't give myself a "cap", like a max number per day or anything. I just wanted to know for sure ahead of time, before I had no safety net, that I really could get through them, KWIM? And knowing I could have one if it got too bad without "falling off the wagon" really helped, but mainly I did it b/c in the past those cravings really freaked me out and no kidding I was in true panic mode and ran to get cigs as fast as I could!
PrairieMom replied: good for you!
luvmykids replied: Thank you! I actually really shocked myself (and DH)!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Monica that's fantastic!!!!
gr33n3y3z replied: That is great a pack now last me 2 full days woohoo I did the samethings as you did only I had taken Wellbutrin WL 150mg for 2 weeks to get there lol
Now I'm waiting for round 2 and I hope this will be the end of it
Keep up the good work

Panic state sounds really familiar. Congrats Monica!
I have many reasons I am going to quit (for my kids, my health, ) But I work with these to guys that bum cigs from me everyday. HELLO they know they are expensive and they still bum several every day. I took 2 days of vacation Thurs. and Friday and they told me today that I was not missed just my cigs. I told them they could have just gone to the store and spent THEIR money on cigs and they laughed. JERKS! SO for the rant.......I think I need a cig now .
luvmykids replied: Go ahead. It's not April 17th yet! (Whew!) There are so many things that make me say I need one/deserve one/earned one ....
Tell those guys to start buying their own so you can bum from them until quittin time!
Insanemomof3 replied: WTG Monica!! I am thinking I am going to start weaning myself now. Maybe get down to a couple a day, with NO MORE at ALL on April 17th.
1lilpeanut2love replied: Congrats!! It definitely sounds that you WILL be able to quit. Best of luck to you!
Nina J replied: Well done
fashionmumofboys replied: WTG Monica!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep up the good work. You can do it.
LoganAndAubreesMommy replied: [FONT=Courier][COLOR=blue]I quit by weaning myself off. When I had my daughter, I HATED to go around her smelling like smoke. I got it stuck in my head that she hated the smell of smoke. For some reason that was enough for me b/c I started feeling guilty everytime I smoked a cigarette. Eventually I just gave it up!! Now, after the birth of my son I only smoke a cigarette once a week or so. I figured that if I had control over it rather than it having control over me and could smoke a cigarette every blue moon without wanting one all of the time, then that was awesome!! This worked for me, but might not work for everyone! Good luck!
