Rae - What ended up happening with DH's job?
luvmykids wrote: Sorry if I missed it, what was the final outcome? Are you guys moving somewhere or is it still up in the air?
amymom replied: I am curious too!
lovemy2 replied: Yeah whatever happened there?
And Mon - you too what's up with your business???? Things getting any better??
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I wanna know too.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Thanks for asking! They let go probably a good 75% or more of his office and closed the COS division completely, but fortunately decided to keep DH on board here, just doing something a bit different. So we didn't have to move. Instead of Director of Land Acquisitions & Entitlements, he is now Manager of Development for South Colorado. Somewhat of a demotion (although same pay and benefits), but good experience to have under his belt. So now he is working pretty much alone out of a model home pretty far east of where we live. There are sales people in the model home, but it's not the same environment he had at the main office, which I think depresses him a bit. The rest of the group (those who kept their jobs) moved up to Denver and work from that division now. DH was told he had to go up there maybe once a month, but it has turned into 2-3 times a week! He isn't thrilled about it and gets home really late. He also misses the social aspect, since he really had some good friends at his old office. He gets to wear jeans pretty much everyday now (unless he has to go to Denver), but a lot has changed for him. He is doing the "dirty work", dealing with home-owner complaints, HOA meetings, putting out a lot of fires. He really misses buying land.
Anyhow, long story short, we are working towards getting out to California. But he made a promise to stick around here until spring of 08. After our recent vacation, we have come to realize how important it is to be closer to family. The kids just really excelled when around their grandparents and cousins. Yeah, it was vacation, so I'm sure it won't be like that everyday (I didn't have to clean or cook), but it just felt right. I really miss the great weather and the beach. I have never been much of a mountain person! DH had several meetings setup with prospective employers this last time and is working on meeting with more when we go out again in September. I love how motivated he is! He is also currently working on getting his CA real estate and contractor's license, just as backup. And we may get into an investment property with his folks (in CA that is)...since obviously we can't afford to buy something there alone. Keep your fingers crossed for us!
gr33n3y3z replied: I'm glad you 2 are thinking of a back up plan Tell your DH to hang in there
coasterqueen replied: Sounds wonderful Rae. Keeping those fingers crossed.
luvmykids replied: Bleh. No. DH has all kinds of irons in the fire but so far none are on paper so it's still very much wait and see. Thanks for asking
Rae, I'm glad you guys have a plan towards CA, I've always thought that sounded like where your heart is. Everything DH is working on is in CO, we'll probably end up moving there right when you leave
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Mon, Colorado isn't that far from me.
holley79 replied: Glad to see things worked out.
luvmykids replied: Then I could come see your cabin in person
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Is it that obvious? Yeah, I'm a beach baby through and through! Colorado has been absolutely GREAT for us though, no regrets. Its just time to move on. DH and I are absolutely on the same page on that, which I never expected in a million years. We moved here from CA because DH missed the changing of the seasons (grew up on the east coast). So we tried it out and stayed for 8 years. It really has done so much for DH's career, given us the opportunity to own a home (two as a matter of fact), and I think experiencing life AWAY from family is always good as well. But it's time to be closer to them now. It will be a change of lifestyle for sure, but I'm 100% okay with that...as long as we're not homeless of course.
You guys will love it here! The people are really down to earth, outdoors type (of course). Very family-oriented because it's not too expensive to live here. Lots to do with your kids. What part are you guys looking at?
A&A'smommy replied: Good luck with everything it sounds like ya'll are making some progress, but it definitly sounds like the job kinda sucks!!
