Refux...What are the signs?
MoonMama wrote: Can some of you who have dealt with reflux tell me what the signs are? I am really wondering if this is the case for Braed, I'm going to make him an appointment this week with his ped. But I am just wondering...He seemed to do great with the new lactose (sp) free formula for a while but now its back to the same old issues. His tummy is always upset, he spits up all the time and it tends to come out of his nose, and he usually get hick-ups after, and I always burp him after he eats and after every oz. or so when he seems to need it. Sometimes is seems like he's flemmy and he coughs due to this, KWIM? And laying down definitely makes it worse. Anyone with first hand experience that ca tell me what the signs are?
amymom replied: Everything you described is how I remember Mary Beth being as a baby. Especially the hiccoughs!!!!
Good Luck!
MoonMama replied: Thank you Anne Marie ...I just wanted to make sure I'm not crazy for thinking it could b reflux before I called the ped just to get there and look stupid once again.
flirtycuddle replied: My ds had all the same symptoms and was put on zantac but it did nothing in all reality so we stoppd the meds. He was also put on Nutramigen cuz of intolerances or suspected milk and soy allergies and that helped a ton at first but not for long. The congestion he has had since birth I was told is a sign of food allergies, also he had other "issues" that showd allergy. Have you tried soy formula yet? he may be allergic to the protein in milk and it can take a while for a reaction to formula
MoonMama replied: Thanks for the info and reply.
As far as soy..yes we have tried soy as well as regular formula and lastose free.
MyBabeMaddie replied: That sounds like Maddie - We put her on Soy formula, we also tried Zantac but that didn't work - She is now on tagamet (treats acid reflux) and it has been working great now. Our Dr. also said to put a lil bit of rice cereal in her bottles if she still has problems - something about making it heavier and stays in the stomach better. Good luck I know its no fun!
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Everything you described could be reflux...but to me it sounds like a food allergy. I just read a great book called Is this your child by Doris Rabb. It is all about kids and food allergies. Unfortunately it didn't fit too well for J. but described KAty as a baby to a T and she was allergic to milk.
Calimama replied: Thats what I was thinking too!
I hope you get some answers soon hun!
redchief replied: Braed sounds like Kate and me. Sorry.
At least you can start to track down what bothers him most! Katie's very good at judging just how much she can have of something she's sensitive to before it begins to repeat badly on her. I am too, but I'm not so good at listening to my instincts.
flirtycuddle replied: Since soy and lacto free didn't help for long what about a hypo like Nutramigen or Alliutium? I know they are expensive but when soy and that don't help that is what we had to try. My son has soy and milk allergies and is on a special perscibed formula but most infants take to nutramigen and alliutium fine.
siblingtooolivia replied: Sounds like reflux to me and we have plenty of experience with it.....my Dylan is the same exact way - plus he was never relaxed always seemed fretty like - didn't necessarily cry alot but fretty and tons of nasal congestion from it going into his nose - ask for an upper GI - not invasive at all and talk to the ped about zantac - that is what has worked for both of my kids - Dylan just started it on Thursday and is like a whole new baby!!!
Good luck!
MoonMama replied: Thank you everyone, I'm going to write this all down and talk to his ped this coming week.
Lisa where did you get that book from, I think I need to get a copy?
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I checked it out from the library. (totally OT but I love the online book reservations there )
MoonMama replied: Awesome, thanks.
