Remind me - What are one year olds like?
luvmykids wrote: I'm going to start watching a friends baby who just turned one, two days a week. I put the outlet covers back on, vacuumed and mopped thoroughly, and put any chemicals up out of reach. But for the life of me I can't remember much else, is this the age they put everything in their mouth? Empty your kitchen cabinets? Clear out your bookshelves?
I have plenty of toys for her age, and it will just be me and Macie when she's here so I'm not worried about being able to pay enough attention, I just can't remember what they're like at that age
Brias3 replied: I'd say yes to everything you said. And climbing, climbing, climbing! If you have stairs, obviously gate those and I'd shut bathroom doors too, if they're on the main floor where the baby will be- all three of my kids were obsessed with going into the bathroom and getting into mischief at that age!
I'd watch out for "chokeables" too- I know your kids toys will probably be around and I remember always being amazed at what little parts can come off of the simplest toys! It was a constant battle to watch what the older child was playing with around the younger one, etc.
I'm sure things will go great- how nice of you to agree to do that!
MoonMama replied: Climbing, full of energy, into everything and I mean EVERYTHING, busy, the fit throwing has started in our house, wants everything he see's us with, loves to undo everything I just finished doing, and so forth. I love it!
ETD: And if he's to quiet for too long, he's DEFINITELY upto something he shouldn't be!
A&A'smommy replied: hehe everything in mouth, find EVERY little thing on the floor that you can't even see, eat everything in site... hmmm pretty much what you said!!
luvmykids replied: Hmmm....wonder if it's too late for her to find someone else for tomorrow? I may need another day of making sure things are secured, out of reach, or harmless
I've got all the kids toys upstairs, hopefully I can deal with whatever Macie may bring down. I think she's bringing a gate for the stairs. I need to find somewhere to put my cactus and I'm sure within the first hour there will be lots of "Why didn't I remember to put that out of reach?"
The dad is one of DH's best friends, the mom is a teacher so at least I won't have her during the hectic times, like holidays. I think it will be fun, Macie will love it and maybe it will cure my baby fever
Kentuckychick replied: I'd echo everything everyone else said! Caydee's in the cabinets, up the stairs, sitting on the fireplace, taking everything off the shelves... she's a handful of fun
And I think the one rule of the one year old's everyone should remember
"What's mine is mine, what's yours is mine, what's his is mine, and what's hers is mine!"
Oh... And "If you have any food you'd better be sharing"
Mommy2Isabella replied: OH MY ... lol
Ditto to what everyone said, Bella seems to find EVERYTHING on the floor, like the loose carpet fuzz ... and eats it, I have to vaccumm at least once a day, if not more. She loves to stick her hand in the toilet and play with the water < YUCK) ... umm, pull books off of shelves and climber extrodinare
lovemy2 replied:
Especially the climbing, climbing, climbing - Dylan made it to the top of the stairs in literally the turn of our back - and his favorite place is standing on sissy's chair in the living room yelling out the window - he thinks he is KING when he is on there (its one of those small kids chairs)
ZandersMama replied: got a padded room?
Zav is just now starting to cruise good, I moved my sectional so the room is almost blocked off, just a small opening that i can block with a gate. All wires are up high and the only things in there other then couch and tv are baby safe toys.
He is much more busy then Zander ever was. Zander i could move and distract him but not Zavier, hes very determined.
coasterqueen replied: You just described my 2.5 year old.
holley79 replied: MOnica's going to need a chill pill by the end of her first day.
Boo&BugsMom replied: I LOVE this age! It's my favorite age! Climbing, running, craziness...that about describes it! I always put harmfull things up of course, but I never put things up for fear they may touch it. My kids learn to not touch things they arent' suppose to. Like my candle holders...they don't go up, they learn those are my pretty's and not to touch them. Toddlers love to build, love to sing, love tumbling and gymnastics. You can have them paint with pudding or jello...anything edible. They also love shaving cream. They play in it at the table, and it cleans your table at the same time! Just make sure it's non-toxic and stay by her so she doesn't put it in her mouth. Have fun!
momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: I completely agee with everyone else. And Denise, Alyx is a toliet water fien too. It Grosses me out. I think I finally have everyone else trained to put the seat down so she can't get in it. Also if she already feeds herself good luck trying to do it for her. I can't even touch the spoon without Alyx screaming and pulling it away.
It will be lots of fun. I am sure your will have the major stuff done and then it's just remembering all the small stuff we forget.
Enjoy your time with her.
lisar replied: Full of energy and yes to the putting things in your mouth. Raygen still does it every now and then.
Have fun...
luvmykids replied: Thanks guys. She got sick yesterday and they went to urgent care last night, the poor baby has strep so she didn't come today. We're hoping for Thursday though, so I have two more days to babyproof
Cece00 replied: Yup, lots of everything in the mouth, getting into things, crawling/climbing into/onto everything in site, my son gets into the bookcase all the time, he tries to play with the remote & the phone....
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Wesley is 16 mos and he is a HUGE climber! He isn't walking quite yet, but he will climb on just about anything. He also loves going through my cabinets, pulling out tupperware lids, etc. He isn't into movies or tv yet, which is a good thing, but it doesn't give me much of a break. He does still nap though, twice a day. 9am and 2pm. You need lots of finger food snacks, sippy cups. Toys: stacking boxes, books, little people. They are still pretty simple at this age. Going on walks, swinging, playing in sand - ideas for things to do. GL!
My2Beauties replied: Oh boy I can't wait... I have 6 more months to get my butt in gear Gosh I forgot what kind of trouble they can get in
