Results of Alex's Lemonade Stand....
MommyToAshley wrote: The Lemonade Stand got off to a bit of a rough start... When we arrived at the swimming pool where we had arranged to hold the stand, we found out that someone had vandalized the pool and dumped a bag of fertilizer in the pool overnight. The pool manager wasn't sure if he would even be able to open the pool, so after a few quick phone calls, we moved the lemonade stand to the lobby of the YMCA. Ashley and a few of her friends did an excellent job of running the stand. The grand total of online and offline donations was $1,221.85!!!! The girls are excited that they surpassed the ambitious goal of $1,000. Thank you to Crystal and Ed here at Parenting Club for supporting the Lemonade Stand. There are a lot of generous people.... Some people drove to the pool, and then were redirected and made the trip to the YMCA just because they had read about the lemonade stand in either our local newspaper or the Dayton Daily News. (The lemonade stand was in both newspapers on Thursday.... I'll have to post one of the articles for you later).
The visitors to the lemonade stand all stamped a cloth with a lemon-shaped stamp and then signed it. I am going to see if someone can sew the edges for me and then I will send it as a tablecloth to Teri, Johnathon's Mom. Photos of the event can be found at: http://www.alexslemonade.org/stands/11882
Ashley really learned a lot from the experience. She wrote the letters requesting the donations for the products herself, she read and looked at stories about kids with cancer on Alex's Lemonade stand website, she was interviewed by the newspaper on why she wanted to do the lemonade stand, and she explained to visitors what the event was all about. There were some things I had to help her with like picking up the supplies and setting up the event, but at the end of the event, she told me that she loved organizing the event with me and that it felt like a good thing to do.
If anyone is interested in hosting a stand and wants some tips (from trial and error), please let me know. I know Brianna was thinking about hosting one... the more we get the word out, the better chance there is of finding a cure!

My daughter, Kaitlin was involved in a local Alex's Lemonade Stand event for four years. She wasn't the organizer, but the stands she worked were among the first outside of Alex herself. During the first one they had to explain in detail what was going on because few people knew of the fund raiser despite the fact that Alex was from the Philadelphia area. Oh, the lady that organized those stands was a good friend of Alex's family.
CantWait replied: WOW, wtg Ashley on a job well done from start to finish. That's great news

luvmykids replied: That is awesome, she is such a compassionate girl! WTG Ashley!
MommyToAshley replied: That's right, now I remember reading that Alex was from Philadelphia. That's pretty cool that your daughter was involved in one of the first lemonade stands outside of Alex's own lemonade stand. It's amazing how much it has grown since the day when one little girl had the idea to have a lemonade stand to help other kids. Amazing.

jem0622 replied: Glad that the fundraiser went well! I am glad to see so many things out there to raise awareness for childhood cancer. After losing my oldest sister to cancer when she was only 7 1/2 yrs old, you realize that you can never stop giving to such an important cause.
