Riding Bikes - at what age?
Farelle wrote: Just curious how old your kids were when they got into bike riding? My son (3) lasts about 2 minutes on his little bike. But the boys across the street (5 & 3-1/2) have been riding since they were much younger and still are. Just curious about everyone else? Also do you think getting one of those driving cars will only make the interest in bike riding less?? I think so but my DH thinks not.
grapfruit replied: Maybe he just doesn't like riding bikes? Have you tried to play a game w/him to spike his interest a little? We used to always play "highway" on bikes, roller skates, scooters, etc. It was fun
Basically somebody was a Highway Patrolman (patrolperson I guess). Somebody was a robber. (we lived in basically an alley, it was a small one way street w/like NO traffic and pretty much everyone had kids around the same age). Well everyone's driveway was a different shop or store. Completely make believe, basically we just were riding around in circle on the street. But we had a good time!
Also, 3 may just be a little young. He probably has more fun exploring in the dirt.
TheOaf66 replied: same problem with Tanner, he rides a bit and gets bored although he loves his scooter so I think they'll come around eventually
Farelle replied: I think he gets bored quickly. My friend told me her boys didn't get into their bikes until they were like 6 years old. I used to LOVE my big wheel when I was little!!! These boys don't know what they're missing!
grapfruit replied: Big wheels ruled! LoL! I loved my tricycle too. I used to flip it over and "make ice cream" with it. The bell was the sprinkle dispenser I was an imaginative child!
A&A'smommy replied: We did the SAME thing when we were little!!!!
Alyssa gets bored easily too, she would stay on her bike for about 15minutes and get tired of it and move on to something else... I don't really remember spending a lot of time riding my bike until I was like 11
My3LilMonkeys replied: At 3 1/2 Brooke likes it for 5 - 10 minutes, then she's on to the next thing. My nephews who are 9 and 11 live on their bikes. Me? I learned to ride when I was 19.
jcc64 replied: Corey's trying to master a 2 wheeler- she insisted that we remove her training wheels b/c her "boyfriend" removed his. She can balance herself, but she has no clue about steering. If we weren't running along side her, she'd definitely drive right into the woods and into a tree. She's 4- how old were your kids when they took off the training wheels?
msoulz replied: My son was pedaling one of those three-wheeled plastic things at 2 and would go for quite a while but I don't remember how long.
I'm with you on losing interest in the bike if an electric car comes around. The bike would be too much like work!!
Farelle replied:
HA!!! LOL!! That's the truth...I wonder if I would have like my big wheel as much if I had had a motorized car!!!!
HuskerMom replied: I loved my big wheel! Do they even make those anymore? If they do I can't wait to get Keith one. He's way too young now but we're planning on getting him a go kart too. Dh's parents have a track out at their house that goes around their shop and house. I know Dh is looking forward to when Keith is old enough to ride motorcycles too.
Farelle replied:
Yes they do!! But the new ones don't have that brake that you could pull and make yourself skid like crazy!! I think Walmart sells them.
