Ringworm?

Mom2Boyz wrote: Does anyone know what a ringworm looks like? Conner has a place on his butt cheek that has been there for about 3 weeks now. It's a perfect circle, slightly raised and red. I looked online to see if that is what it looks like, but all the pics I saw looked WAY worse than this. I havn't called the dr about it because he didn't act likeit was bothering him, but a friend of mine said it looks like a ringworm. I guess I'll call the ped on Monday and she what she says. If that is what it is, where the heck do you get something like that?

MommyToAshley replied: Ashley gets those marks on her buns sometimes... on the cheek part. I asked the ped about it when she went for a check-up. Ashley happened to have one at the time and the ped said it was an ingrown hair and it's common with kids their age. I never heard that before. dunno.gif But, they always go away on their own after several weeks.

mommy~bella replied: a perfect circle with a "hallow" middle? like a ring?

or just a bump? just to clairify, a bump is mostlikely an ingrown hair as stated.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: It sounds kind of like ringworm to me, but I don't know. I would take him to the doctor just to see for sure. Hope you figure it out!

ian'smommy replied: Ian gets red spots on his butt as well... They remind me of pimples... But they go away after a while... But if you are worried I would definitely take him in and rest your mind.

ilovemybaby replied: Do you have a cat or has he had contact with any cats? It's really unusual for ringworm to be on the bottom... I've never heard of that before. I've had ringworm and it was on my leg. My dad had it and it was on his arm. I think the skin would have had to come into contact with the cat... I could be wrong though.

Either way, Ringworm is easily treated. You can get a cream from the drug store/pharmacy. I don't think it would hurt to use one even if it isn't Ringworm.

Mom2Boyz replied: I called the ped, and they said to treat it like ringworm. And if it hadn't cleared up in 2 weeks to let them know.

He has never been around cats, so I'm not sure where he'd have gotten it.

mammag replied: Cade got it on his arm once. Never figured out what caused it but it cleared up with the cream. Hope it clears up for you as well.

ilovemybaby replied: He must have got it from another kid or something... I'm not sure if any other animals get it... maybe dogs but I don't know.

ilovemybaby replied: I looked it up on the net and dogs can have it too. You can even get it from soil. There are like four types of ringworm. You know Tinea (Athletes Foot)? It is also ringworm... just a different type.

jcc64 replied: Ringworm comes from domestic animals, I believe. Very easily treated.

redchief replied: I've had ringworm and your description sounds like ringworm to me (it's not really a worm; but a dermal viral infection).
