It would help if I knew a bit more about Marcus (I know, I know, you've been talking about him for months... but not from a man perspective). Is he outdoorsy, professional office, a professional contractor? Does he like jewelry (like simple chains or such)? Is he well or poorly organized? What, besides you, is important in his life?
Sorry, lots of questions, but the answers would help me.

Why not get him a small Superman action figure?  Then you can write "from Jenna"... lol
How about getting him a 25$ gift certificate to a bookstore, a superman action figure, and maybe a smaller bottle of cologne? I'm not sure how much you were going to spend... you could always just give him smaller stuff with his family - and if he gets you something extravagant.. you have another present in the car or your home for him to open when you're alone...

I know here we have places that sell used games really cheap and they come with a warnety so if they dont work by chance you can exchange them. My df told me straight out to get him the new final fantasy game for the PS2 he got himself on black friday. Also if he does like Jewerly I wouldn't say buying a gold chain would be to much for the time you have been together. Just a nice chain isn't that expensive.
Also on the idea Zen Mommy had you can get him something more extragent and keep it in the car just incase he surpises you with something big. (like a engagement ring after the hints he's been dropping that you have told us about)
