Saw the OB yesterday - blah (m)

Julie (jem0622) wrote: Okay. I could throw a freakin' shoe at my OB (it's a group of OB's). This man is so matter of fact about things and really not compassionate. No bedside manner. He's the same one who performed the D&C. He copped an attitude w/ me b/c I had to sign papers for the AFP/HIV/Cystic Fibrosis testing. And I said 'can't you get a false positive with multiples?' and he said 'there is no such thing as a false positive...it is a ratio. So the smaller the ratio the greater the risk' and I said 'well, I've never been told my ratios with past pregnancies so I wouldn't know.' Sheesh. I opted for the Cystic Fibrosis test and he said 'if you insurance doesn't cover it we will bill you...but you indicated to the nurse at your last visit you didn't want it??' and I said 'I changed my mind.' Give me a freakin' break! So then he goes on to ask me if we have fraternals or identicals in the family. After some thought I said 'fraternals' and he said there is a higher likelihood of having fraternals then. Okay. When he goes to listen for the h/b he says 'this is really tricky and I may not be able to get both heartbeats here...and we may only have one live one in there.' Nice. Do you say this to all of your mothers who have miscarried? Oy. I have had a vanishing twin...thank you very much. But trust me...this belly is expanding fast and I'm feeling flutters already so I think for now we are okay. Sheesh. I can't wait to see the peri on Monday b/c it will be far more telling than yesterday. Sorry to be a grump but he put me there. He swears he did find both h/b's and they were in the 160s. I definitely heard one h/b but not sure that I heard the other one b/c he was moving at a frantic pace. I have to see him again for my next visit but I'm going to try and avoid him after that. LOL.

On top of this I'm coming down with a cold. I will only be working a few hours today. Go home early and nap! Yay!

amynicole21 replied: Ugh! Why people like that go into the medical profession is beyond me mad.gif If you aren't a "people person" go work in a lab or something! Grrrr. I hope you can avoid him for the rest of your pregnancy. I had a OB in my practice that I didn't like, but every visit we had to alternate between the 3 docs, so I had to see him a lot dry.gif Ugh! Ugh!

mummy2girls replied: uggh! i AM SO SORRY YOU WENT THROUGH THAT! THOSE KIND OF MEDICAL PERFESSIONALS REALLY GET TO ME. bELIEVE ME I HAD SOME NASTY NURSES WHEN MY SON WAS IN THE HOSPITAL! (sorry caps was on...LOL)

Anyways i had to say something about him saying those tests never are false positives! i have to disagree! i ha afp 2 times and they both were fasle positives. Even my ob said they were.

ediep replied: Oh man, that is horrible!!!! I would try to never see that doc again. what a grump!!!

kimberley replied: sounds like my OB dry.gif i am sorry you had to deal with his nastiness and indifference. you and your babies deserve much better than that! they would ask me almost every appt if i was "still" pg because i had m/c a few weeks before Jade was conceived and when he told me the bad news the first time, he was very cold about it. he just said this is NOT a viable pg. when i got upset he said it shouldn't affect me THAT much and gave me a number to a shrink ohmy.gif . grouphug.gif i hope it goes better with the peri.

MommyToAshley replied: Ughhhh.... I wonder why people like that get in this profession too. It's usually men because they have no clue what it is like to be PG and worry so much. I hope you can avoid him for the rest of your PG.

grouphug.gif I hope your day gets better... .try to forget about him!

aspenblue1 replied: He sounds nasty. I would definately try to avoid him in the future.

coasterqueen replied: YIKES! Hope you don't have to see him again! What a #@&$@^!!!!!

Sorry you are catching a cold sad.gif ((HUGS)) and try to rest wink.gif.

jcc64 replied: I'm sorry you had to deal with such idiotic and insensitive behavior. I belong to a group practice as well, and I dreaded getting stuck with one particular bonehead when it came time to deliver. Well, as my luck would have it, that's who I got. Can you avoid him for the rest of the pg, and then cross your fingers that he isn't the one on call when you deliver?

Kirstenmumof3 replied: smash.gif I hate doctors like that, very unprofessional! I hope you don't get him for the delivery! grouphug.gif Offering you some hugs, I hope you feel better soon! grouphug.gif

MomToMany replied: OMG!! What a jerk!! People like that shouldn't work with patients!

And that was just awful to scare you like that! I'm so sorry you had to see that doctor.

I hope you get better fast! Get plenty of rest!!

Julie (jem0622) replied:

I can certainly try! LOL. But unfortunately my next appt. falls right before the July 4th holiday and he is one of the only ones on staff...so I see him again. I am definitely going to shuffle days if I have to so that I can avoid him in the future! LOL. I actually like all of the other staff OBs...so I have 4 others to pick from when the time comes again.

DansMom replied:
Are you kidding me???? He said this casually??? I'm appalled. sad.gif

paradisemommy replied: oh man what a jerk. smash.gif sorry you had to go through that. smash.gif smash.gif people like that should HAVE to work in like prisons and not with normal folks..that's just disgusting that he can treat you that way. i think i would have gone home in tears. hang in there and do what you can to avoid him.. thumb.gif

CantWait replied: What a sweetheart, NOT mad.gif I hope that you can get in to see one of the other OB's for your other visits. Sorry the appointment didn't go well grouphug.gif

A&A'smommy replied: ugh mean old docter!!!! mad.gif I'm glad the babies are doing good though wub.gif wub.gif I dreamed I had twins the other night it kinda freaked me out lol!

Elle replied: mad.gif that kind of "professionals" just get on my nerves!!!
