Scary evening at the ER
ammommy wrote: Late yesterday afternoon, I was changing Megan's diaper when her hands turned blue, she momentarily stopped breathing (like she was holding her breath), and she started to shake. It scared the h#ll out of me so I called the ped's oncall office. It only lasted for a couple of seconds and wasn't a grand mal seziure, which is why I didn't rush her to the ER. They finally got back to me and she had another episode so they told me to go to the ER to have her checked out. At 3pm her temp was 97.8. When we got to the ER at about 5:30, her temp was 101.7. About 30 minutes later her temp was 104.9 . She was vomitting like she was in the movie the Exorcist and shivering cold. They gave her a huge dose of Tylenol to get the fever down and the poor thing had blood work drawn and had a catheter inserted for a urine sample She did remarkably well and the conclusion is that she has some sort of infection (knew that, thanks. It's a sinus infection) and her blood sugar was a bit high. We got the fever down to an acceptable level (101.something) and sent us on our merry way. She seems to be her normal self today, but I'm frustrated because noone can explain the rapid increase in temp or the blue hand/suspended breathing episode. Suffice it to say that my little lady is getting pampered all she wants for the next few days Episodes like this make me realize how precious our kids are and how helpless we really can be. Give your kids a hug for me today!

I am with you on this one, I am surprised that a sinus infection would cause all those symptoms! Did they give her anything but tylenol?
Here's some hugs for both of you!

ammommy replied: I waited to freak out until we got her home. Then it hit me hard. It's funny because everyone at the hospital kept asking if I was a nurse. I finally asked why they were asking and one of the nurses said it was because I was so calm and together...not your typical mother I guess.
