Scotty wants to take me

Maddie&EthansMom wrote: on a trip, just the two of us. More than likely it will be this summer before we can go.

WHERE do we go? We went on a honeymoon, but we were so poor and we didn't get a chance to go anywhere special and it was only for a couple of days. We would like to take a REAL trip. I've been lots of places since we got married, but he never gets to go anywhere and he's never seen the ocean, been on a beach, etc. So I'm leaning towards a beach vacation. However, I would like for it to be less of the family affair and more on the "romantic" side since we won't have our babies with us.

Give me some ideas for some "grown up" trips. biggrin.gif Oh and no mountains please, I can't handle the altitude. sleep.gif

lovemy2 replied: What about like a Sandals all inclusive? Those look neat - or a cruise.....

mckayleesmom replied:
blush.gif Sandals also has some resorts where kids aren't allowed.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: I guess South Beach is out emlaugh.gif rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif rolling_smile.gif You might still be on the evening news! wink.gif emlaugh.gif rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif

I like the idea of a Sandel's resort. That way you just get there and relax no worries about anything since everything is already paid for cool.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: What about Pacific Coast highway? Wine country, San Fran, beaches....

I would just have no idea where to stay, what to do while there, etc.

We were also thinking Savannah/Hilton Head and doing the drive up to N. Carolina, but it will be so hot and sticky!!

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Too wild for Scotty!! rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

Originally as a family we were going to go to Mexico. Palace Resorts has an all inclusive deal and that is still an option. They have couples only resorts that look really nice. I guess I didn't want a "beach exclusive" vacation. We both like to drive to different locations and look at different things.

booey2 replied: Sorry but I totally agree with a Sandals resort. We went there on our honeymoon 14 years ago and we stayed at the smallest one in Jamaica, the Sandals INN in Montego Bay. You had access to 3 other resorts, they have shuttles to them and it was really nice. Definitely worth looking into, we are going to be going back hopefully for our 15th or 20th anniversary when our kids are older and can be left with relatives for a week or 2 at a time. Check them out, the pampering you get from them is awesome.

luvmykids replied: I like the idea of the coast, like you said, you can check out other things and can do things besides "beachy" stuff. thumb.gif thumb.gif

Our Lil' Family replied:
Aimee can't even drive over a body of water without freaking out...cruises are OUT!

I say Tahoe but there again is the elevation sickness. You just take all the fun out of everything Aim! rolleyes.gif wink.gif

Seriously though...start in San Fran, rent a convertible and drive up to Napa!

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Then there's the whole motion sickness issue. puke.gif Yeah, a cruise sounds fun, but unfortunately, not for me. sad.gif

TheOaf66 replied:
well I am jeolous bawling.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Thanks Terri! I've never known anyone who has actually been to one. It's good to hear that they are everything they advertise and more. thumb.gif

I'm definitely going to check into it and see what Scotty thinks. happy.gif

booey2 replied:
You are welcome. There is a ton of stuff to do at them and it is all included. We took a day trip down to Ocho Rios, Dunns River Falls, and walked up the falls. Everyday we also went out on glass bottom boat ride and one day we even went snorkling and DH isn't the most water loving kind of guy and he loved it, couldn't stop talking about it and wanting to do it again. If you do go, just be prepared to book you day trips and dinner reservations as soon as you get there because they fill up fast. That was the only thing we really didn't like but know for next time, and your tips, yes they say you don't have to tip, are not included. They all will expect a little something when you leave. Let us know where you decide to go.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Come to Canada for the Tulip Festival in May. People come from all over the world to see our flowers. smile.gif

Then trek up to Niagara Falls, about 5 hours from here... beautiful in May as well, as there is still sometimes some ice... gorgeous.

grandma replied:
We have a Tulip Festival too here, in Holland, MI.

Calimama replied:
Let me know if that's what you decide and I can give you some tips on things to do. DH and I were just in that area.

I recommend Europe! tongue.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
You aren't really in HOLLAND, MI!!!! Too freaking wild! My best friend is from Holland!! ohmy.gif She was telling me that we should go to Holland or Mackinac Island. happy.gif

I feel like hugging you!! hug.gif laugh.gif

lisar replied: Well I was gona say a cruise. But other than that I am not sure.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
I would LURVE to go to Europe!! I don't think it's in the budget. wink.gif tongue.gif

Can you recommend some highlights? Some places to stay/not to stay?

Calimama replied:
We got lost on PCH so that little 8 hour trip turned into 15 because I had a great idea to stop at Hurst Castle along the way.

We stayed at the Westin in downtown San Francisco down the street from Ghardelli square (you know the chocolate) it was right near the street cars/train thingy and the double decker bus so we never used the car. It was also RIGHT by the Fisherman's Warf so we were on the water and close to awesome food. We did the guided tour. They took us to the Golden Gate bridge, Alcatrez (which creeped me out), the beach cliffs, China town, through the different boroughs, and up the twin hills or something like that, when you climb to the top there are some AMAZING views of SF, anyway and some other places I can't remember sorry. blush.gif They also had the wine tour which I think took you to the golden gate bridge then to a few of the different wineries and you got to tour, taste wine, and have lunch. But I'm not 21 so we didn't do that. We also shopped a lot down in Market square and went to a couple of the museums.

It was awesome. They were so many things that we didn't get to do!! When you drive from my area you're driving along cliffs and the ocean, scary but gorgeous!

Boo&BugsMom replied:
I was going to say the exact same thing!!! If Troy and I ever get the honeymoon we never had, that is where we'd be going!!!! thumb.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
How long were you there?

ETA: That sounds amazing!! I just read it to DH and he agrees!! thumb.gif We may have a winner!! biggrin.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: I bet Carrie would get you a room at the Hilton Union Sq. where we stayed!

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: SANTA BARBARA!! Most romantic beach city in the US, imo of course, but I'm biased since I grew up there. But it really is amazing! Why do you think so many celebrities live there? They call it the American Riviera!! And I can tell you all the great places to go, like the best seafood restaurant, places to walk (romantic) down by the beach, etc. Then you can drive up to Santa Barbara wineries, where I'll be living, and we can show you around! wink.gif Just an idea...... rolling_smile.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: If you decide on PCH, I would pick the central coast - like Big Sur, Monterey, or Pismo Beach. They are much more romantic IMO, then the southern end, where you get into Malibu, Redondo Beach, etc. JMHO.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Wellllllllllll, I wasn't gonna ask. wink.gif laugh.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Okay, we decided!!! We want to fly to SF, spend a couple of days there, rent a convertible and drive down to Santa Barbara! (stopping in Monterey along the way) Rae, I will be picking your brain for the next several mos. laugh.gif

My2Beauties replied: I agree with the Sandals resort, I heard they are awesome and everything they are cracked up to be. How romantic!! wub.gif

A&A'smommy replied:
oh now that sounds AWESOME!!!! love2.gif love2.gif

austins mom replied: check into a cruise

moped replied: Canada!!!!!!! wink.gif
