Scratch Art
coasterqueen wrote: Has anyone heard of this before...Scratch Art for kids? When we were at the boutiques in Galena one of the ladies said it was quite popular and her granddaughter loved it. She convinced me to buy some for Kylie, although it was expensive IMO. Well Kylie LOVES this stuff. I want to get her some more for her birthday but I haven't seen it readily available in stores around here. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places.
Anyone see it and where?
Kaitlin'smom replied: do you mean this?
scratch art
MommyToAshley replied: I am not sure is you are talking about the same thing ... is it the black paper that you scratch off with a stick and there is color underneath?
If so, Oriental Trading has it really cheap. They have themed things for the different holidays, stickers, magnets and picture frames you can make, or just plain sheets of paper. I bought a bunch when they had it on sale with free shipping. Ashley loves it too.
coasterqueen replied: It's similar. It's really this: Scratch Art, but yes similar. The actual company that I linked to gives you all kinds of theme packets, all kinds of gadgets for the stuff. It's pretty cool.
MommyToAshley replied: LOL Di, we posted at the same time.
coasterqueen replied: We were posting at the same time. I wonder if theirs is as well made as Scratch Magic's. I ask that only because Kylie has some trouble scratching, especially when using the stencils (but LOVES to do it) and if they are made 'cheaper' it would probably make it harder for her to do. Does this make any sense?
MommyToAshley replied: The sheets are thin, but Ahsley has no problem doing the scratch art. Her favorite kind to do is the stickers.
booey2 replied: They carry it up here at our Dollar store and I usually buy a few packages (comes three sheets for $1) and it keeps the kids occupied at the cottage on a rainy day.
Terri
coasterqueen replied: Ooh, I'll have to try the dollar store first then OT. I never thought to look at the dollar store. Good one Terri. If I can get it there that means I could get her some for her birthday as well as her Christmas stocking.
kit_kats_mom replied: back in the olden days (70's) we used to make them ourselves. Take colored crayons and color all over a sheet of paper...press hard to get good thick coverage. Then color all over your creation with a black crayon...again, press hard. Then scratch off the black in whatever design you choose to reveal the colors under it. Cheaper than buying it anyway.
coasterqueen replied: Yep, I remember that. But it was also very MESSY, remember? The less mess the better.
BAC'sMom replied: That is cool ladies. TFS I'll have to see if I find some for my kiddos.
