Severe diaper rash

annafrombc wrote: Poor Evan.
Today he woke up with sever red butt cheeks. Even a little raised. He cries when I wipe off the poop and he NEVER cries for anything. I slathered on some ZINC before bed and change his diaper often. What causes this and how long till it goes away. bawling.gif

Alice replied: I have no idea why, but my youngest got that every time she cut a tooth. It broke my heart-- real pain on both ends at the same time!!

THe zinc really bothered her when the skin was broken, so be careful with it.

What worked (?) for us was going back to basics: lots of fresh air when possible (difficult in winter, I know), vaseline or clear diaper cream, and powder/cornstarch.

And lots of kisses.

Good luck.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: If he has had diarrhea it could be a yeast rash. Even boys can pass this in their poo. If that is the case and you find it is getting worse instead of better you might try Lotrimin AF or something similar. wink.gif

A&A'smommy replied: it could have been a little acid in his poop, if he is teething, or something that didn't agree with him it could be anything Alyssa gets that way it REALLY REALLY bad when she is on antibiodics I have even had to take her back to the docter for that but last time I just kept her a ton of desitin on her it was better pretty quickly!

kimberley replied: AIR! AIR! AIR! keep him undiapered for as long as possible and vaseline works well. if it is a bacterial rash, get a script for fuciden (anti-fungal cream) and it will clear it up right away!

paradisemommy replied: taven had that occasionally and my heart went out to him..he would scream when we went to take a bath and also when i put the lotion on his butt..what worked for us??? air and plain old cornstarch from your cupboard..clears it up within about 2 days and works awesome..

ediep replied: The best remedy for diaper rash that we have used is plain desitin. We have also used triple paste, it comes in a big tub, I got it at the pharmacy. Its not prescription, but they kept it there anyway. It works just as well as desitin. Really slather it on at every diaper change
Good Luck, hope its better soon

Daniels Mommy replied: Boudreaux's Butt Paste...clears it up by the next morning!! And use it between changes for several days....also plain cornstarch or baby powder with cornstarch in it! Poor little guy...

Jamison'smama replied: It's funny--there are obviously MANY different ways to treat diaper rash effectively. My doctor always recommends a mixture of Aquafor and Mylanta liquid. I have actually poured straight Mylanta on Jamison before when her diaper rash just looks like it burns--really takes the heat out of it--a cooling effect--then the Aquafor is just a nice barrier.

Good luck--those can be so miserable!

MomToMany replied:
thumb.gif I was going to mention the Mylanta! Works awesome!! I use cloth diapers, and I have some fleece from Wal-Mart cut into strips about 3 inches wide. I will soak it in the Mylanta, then lay it on top of the diaper. Clears it up overnight!

kit_kats_mom replied: Lauren got a bad one in the hospital and they prescribed the triple butt paste. It has mylanta, nystatin & zinc oxide. Lots of airing her out, wiping with only water & then just patting gently.

annafrombc replied: THANKS GUYS!

The Mylanta must have worked. AS well as I did lots of BARE BUM time wich amazingly did not yield any accidents. I tried almost everything and his little rear is back to normal color.
Thank Goodness and Thank YOU!

ANNA

MomToMany replied: thumb.gif So glad the Mylanta worked! Glad the rash is gone too!
