Should I be concerned?

Calimama wrote: Bella is about to be 8 months old and she's 14-15lbs. She's still in 3-6 clothes and looks like she has awhile before she outgrows them. When people ask her weight or her size they act shocked and it's beginning to worry me. I've had quite a few people telling me that we should have the doctor's run tests to be sure nothing is wrong. She's meeting all her milestones she's just small.. wacko.gif

PrairieMom replied: Some kids are just small. Has her Dr mentioned anything? I think as long as she is eating, and meeting milestones then there probably isn't anything to worry about. Ally is 10 months old and is just now starting to fit into 9 month clothes.

ediep replied: I agree, as long as the doc isn't concerned, I wouldn't be worried

I get sick of some people telling me Brae is BIG for his age. blink.gif He will be 6 months on the 18th and fits into his 3-6 month close with room still. My point being people will always find something to point out and make you worry. KWIM?

flirtycuddle replied: I hope this makes you feel better....my daughter was 10 months before she grew out of her 3-6 months clothes. She walked early and did everything right on time. The doctors started to get worried cuz she wasnt gaining weight and gave the failure to thrive thing but she wasnt lol. She was 18lbs at a yr old. Dont worry and I know how hard it is to hear all the comments. She's perfect for her thats all that matters not hte stupid charts lol.

mummy2girls replied: i went through that and still do with Jenna. Jenna is 4 and she still can fit into 2x... some kids are just small for thier age. Jenna will be a petite little girl. She is 10 percentile for hieght but for weight she is 50 percentile. and the ped isnt worrie dbecause her weight is perfect for her height... Just ignore them...

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: If she acts normal, eats well, sleeps well, pees and poops normal she's fine. I know what it's like hearing about how tiny they are but I try to ignore everyone else.

lovemy2 replied: Olivia is going to be FIVE in 2 1/2 months and only weighs 33 lbs - she has always been on the charts (although not the top of the charts - she is on them) and has always been healthy......

Bella is almost half way to where Olivia is now and Bella isn't even ONE yet!!!

Don't worry....

hoosier momma replied:

I totally agree. And she is meeting her milestones. I don't think you have a thing to worry about. Bella looks like a very happy little girl.

my2monkeyboys replied: I agree with the rest... Will is 4 1/2 and weighs 30 pounds (give or take 1/2 a pound) and is only 37" tall. When he was about 9 months old his Dr decided to run some blood work on him bc he slid off the chart, rather than staying about the same as he got older. The tests showed nothing was wrong, which is what we (and the Dr) really thought. She just wanted to make sure she didn't miss anything.
If you are worried, talk to the Dr about it. If you aren't, then just ignore everyone else. People still talk about how small Will is (which irritates him to no end!), and we just say 'yep, he's built just like his daddy, and is tough as nails to boot!' (His dad, by the way, is 31 and is only 5'7" and 138 pounds.)
Hope this helps!!

EvesMom replied: I worried myself silly about this same thing with Eve. She was in 12 month old clothes until only a couple weeks ago. Then all of the sudden she grew to 18 month clothes, and 2 weeks later I had to go out and get 24 month shirts. Every child is different and has their own unique growth curve. Belle is probably just petite and sweet. As long as she looks and acts healthy, and hits her milestones (as others already said) don't worry yourself too much.

lisar replied: Some kids are small. Raygen is 21 months old and she barley weighs in at 20pounds. She also wears 12 month size clothes. She looks funny when she walks around cause she looks to small to be walking. I wouldnt worry about what everyone else says.

Boo&BugsMom replied: ITA with everyone else. I have met many parents worried about weight and size and you have nothing to worry about as long as she's meeting her milestones and the doctor is not concerned. I think sometimes we tend to overanalyze and over compare to the norm. I have the opposite issue. Tanner is 4 1/2 and he wears size 6 pants and wears 6/7 shirts. He's 50 pounds and I always get comments about how big a boy he is. He's not even overweight or anything, he's just solid and tall. People think he's 6 years old and going into first grade. huh.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: does nto sound like you have anythign to worry about Kaitlin has always been on the petite side, pants and such are always to big in the waiste on her, maybe thats why she loves dresses so much. anyway as long as she does what everyone has already said I would not worry (easier said than done)

Calimama replied: Thanks everyone! DH tells me not to worry, but ya know.. it helps hearing it from other mom's. hug.gif hug.gif

holley79 replied: At 9 months Annika was only 17 pounds 12 ounces. I think she was only wearing 6-9 month clothes and still could wear 3-6 if they weren't one pieces.

I think Little Belle is just perfect and I wouldn't worry about it if the pedi isn't concerned.

kit_kats_mom replied: I don't have Katherine's 8 month stats but here are her 9 month stats.

15 lbs 10 oz and she was 27 inches

Some babies are large, some are small. I do believe that it was around her 9 month check that her charted curve really took a dive, but she also started walking then. IMO more activitiy along with a lack of interest in eating caused the big drop. After a few months of her not rising on the charts at all, we had the blood tests (to test for absorption issues along with other things), cardiologist visit (to check for heart problems), and hormone doctor visit. None of which panned out to anything except she's small.

I'd watch her activity and growth curve. If it keeps going up, no matter where she is on the chart, then she's most likely fine. If it keeps dropping or stays flat, then I'd probably check into more tests.
