Sleep study going down the pooper...

mummy2girls wrote: I had jenna sleep in my room, so i could sleep with her through this. I had her lay in bed and then I put the sensor on her finger and it lite up. she thought it was cool. then the machine started to beep. It showed the oxygen levels and heart rate as well. the beeping freaked her out. so i lowered the volume but because she heard it beep she flipped out. she was to teh point of hyper ventalating( sp?) so i took it off. i unplugged it and told her it s off. She said she was scared of the beeping machine and refused to sleep in teh same room as it. so she wanted back in her room. i tried waiting till she was alseep to do it but she woke up and she freaked out again. so ill try again later. I called the sleep clinic and they told me to try again and if she reacts the way she did then to leave her be. If the surgeon feels thsi needs to be done then she will have to do the sleep study at the hospital overnight sad.gif so we will see... sad.gif

Mommy2BAK replied: aww bless her heart, I hope your able to find a way to calm her nerves about it. hug.gif

PrairieMom replied: Does she sleep really hard? Maybe you could put it on her finger after she is asleep. Be sure to disable the alarms tho, or it may freak her out again.

Another suggestion would be to make a game out of it, like put the sensor on then take it off and make it beep. then try to think of other ways to make it beep. Like, does touching you nose make it beep? no? how about holding you breath? wink.gif maybe if she is more comfortable with the machine it won't be so scary to her.

A&A'smommy replied: hug.gif hug.gif I'm sorry honey!!!

CantWait replied: Sorry Shelly, hope it works better tonight. sad.gif

amymom replied: Aw Shelly, I am sorry it scared her.

Tara had some great ideas.

PrairieMom replied:
Almost like I have delt with children and oximeters before. cool.gif rolling_smile.gif The joys of working on Peds. rolleyes.gif

How did it go? did you get the machine on?

lisar replied: I hope its gets done easy for you and she doesnt have to do it in the hospital. I think Tara's idea was a good one. Make a game out of it.

redchief replied: Sleep study? Sounds like you're using a pulse-oximeter. Is it one that records O2 levels and heart rate through a certain period? I'm kind of scratching my head at the whole thing. Could you explain just what the test is supposed to tell them?

Sorry for all the questions, Shelly. I'm just a little confused.

mummy2girls replied:
They just want to see how her levels in oxygen go and heart rate when she snores and has apnea episodes. The doctor needs to have this done before she goes into surgery for her adenoids.

mummy2girls replied:
I dont get to do it again tonight. i was only able to have ot for one night. it has to be returned by 11am and nope jenna did not do it at all last night... sad.gif

mummy2girls replied:
sometimes she does sometimes she doesnt. but everytime i tried..i even tried her big toe, and she just got scared the machine will beep...

mummy2girls replied:
nope sad.gif

Kirstenmumof3 replied: hug.gif hug.gif Awww poor Jenna! I hope everything works out! hug.gif hug.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: awwww poor thing, who knew the beep would bother he so much....sorry it did not work out

holley79 replied: Aww poor thing. I'm sure it did freak her out. Hopefully he won't see a need to do it in the hospital. I'm sure that would freak her worse.

mummy2girls replied:
i know but the first beep that came on was really loud. and they warned me it would but it just creeped up on us:( so i lowered the beep sound but i guess that first intial beep freaked her!
