So irritated at DH!

my2monkeyboys wrote: We went shopping tonight and got it ALL done for the boys! But when we get home DH says, I can't wait for Will to open his gift! He's referring to the only thing we got him from his letter to Santa, that is supposed to be from Santa, not us! So now I have just a few small toys from Santa.... what am I supposed to do now?!?
I don't want him to wake up and think a few little toys is all he's getting, esp since he didn't even ask for them. I know we probably spoil them a little, but when I was growing up Santa brought the 'good' stuff, ya know? And it's always been that way for my boys, too. So now I'm trying to figure out something 'good' for Santa to bring that I can also afford. sad.gif
Dang DH!!! mad.gif Just when I had it all figured out!

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I'm confused... so Dh wants that gift to be from you, instead of from Santa? Or did he want to not wait for Christmas?

This year Andrew saw Santa at Wal-mart of all places, and told him he wants a red toy vacuum cleaner. The funny part is, he only saw Santa because my mom had taken him to go look at the fish while I bought him a red vacuum and Allie a pink one for her to give them, and Santa was over by the pet food section. tongue.gif SO, Andrew was all excited because Santa is going to bring him a red vacuum (I know my kid is weird... he's been wanting one since LAST Christmas). I had to tell him that sometimes Santa sends letters to kids families to tell them what they want. I felt kind of bad about it, but we already did our shopping for the kids and I didn't want my mom to have to get him something else anyways.

my2monkeyboys replied: Sorry... DH wants to the gift to be from us that is supposed to be from Santa.
Now Santa has pretty much nothing to leave except a couple of inexpensive things that Will didn't even ask for. LOL I really could just ring his neck!

amymom replied: My DH never could get the concept of gifts from Santa and gifts from us. After Christmas, he would say things like, "I knew you would like that when we bought it" Billy would say," But Santa gave that to me." Lee just could not get that it made a difference what he said. I just got to the point that Santa brought small things, like books and clothes, and we gave the more 'exciting' gifts. Lee was surprised by what Santa brought too, I just kept it a secret from him ahead of time. He could not be trusted to not let the secret out. I had to buy something for me too, otherwise Santa didn't give me a gift. Many years he took Billy & Mary Beth with him to buy Santa's gift to me. No imagination my DH!!!

I cut Lee right out of the Santa fun ahead of time. It worked for us. tongue.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: Well I'm kinda in the same boat. We got Thomas a DSi for Christmas that will end up coming from Santa but darnit....I want the credit for that! Last year Santa brought the Wii! But all we have other than that are a couple of games and a carrying case....there's not much wow factor there. So I'm sucking it up and letting Santa bring the DS....eventually he'll understand that all those years WE actually bought those gifts!

lisar replied: In my house it depends on what they asked for and what the item is. Lexi knows the truth about santa so its all good with her, Raygen told Santa she wanted a pillow pet so I got her 2 of them, but they are from me not Santa. Santa got the girls a Wii this year. Raygen wont care as long as she gets a pillow pet, she dont care who buys it or who gives it to her as long as she gets one.
I say leave a few small things out from Santa, and wrap the rest from you and your dh.
In the end he wont care who it came from.

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
Lol that's my problem too. We don't get them a lot, usually just one "bigger" gift and then a couple smaller ones. Even the big one is never more than 30 or 40 dollars so the smaller ones are pretty small. This year Santa is giving them their bigger presents, and I hate that they're going to think we hardly got them anything at all.

youngmomofone replied: That's why we don't do the whole Santa thing. Dh especially wanted to teach them to appreciate what we get them. So, what if one year you can't get what they want and they will say that Santa will get them it, then what? When Santa doesn't bring it, they will be heart broken. So, for our family we decided that we won't do Santa period.

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
That's kind of how I feel too, but Dh wants to do Santa with them. My sister and I didn't believe in Santa growing up and I don't feel like I missed out anything. But Dh has a lot of fun Santa memories. This is actually the first year we are giving them anything from Santa, and we're only doing it because last year Andrew wondered why he didn't get anything from Santa. I didn't realize until then that he actually knew that much about him because we hadn't said much.

luvbug00 replied: Mya said " I know there is no Santa. Santa is just ur debit card" ...Oye..
I see why ur irritated but one day they will understand and thank u.

MommyToAshley replied: You think that is bad....

Last night, Ashley comes home with Rod with a Purple Unicorn Pillow Pet. I walk downstairs, hand him the one I have had hidden since Black Friday and tell him he gets to take it back. It's one of the few things she mentioned that she wanted, and I guess it didn't dawn on DH that when she mentioned it to him at the store that it was two weeks before Christmas. grrrrr.

Oh, and Santa usually gets credit for all the good gifts around here too. But, I think this may be the last year for that as our little believer is starting to have doubts already.

HOW FUNNY!!!

Calimama replied: Santa always gets to give the good stuff here too. I don't mind. One day she'll realize. wink.gif Plus there is magic to Santa.. and I love, love, LOVE seeing her realize that.

Calimama replied:
This sounds like my hubby.

my2monkeyboys replied: Well, I think we've decided to let Santa bring a laptop.... I know, he's only 8, but it's because our desktop is dying quickly and we use it for our business, while we use the laptop for school/internet/fun. So, if we get Will a laptop to do his school on, then I can take the school off this laptop and use this one for business. Kind of a fix to our problem and still letting Santa give something good.
I wouldn't know what to do without Santa... I just LOVED having him when I was growing up! I think it's just so magical and sweet. wub.gif

mckayleesmom replied: I solved this problem long ago. My kids know that mommy and santa work together as a team. They know that Santa gets all his ideas from mommy and daddy and their letters and we all work together to come up with what we think they will like the most. They also know that Santa and mommy and daddy have to make sure all the kids in the world get presents so Santa, mommy and daddy only take into consideration what they want and they don't always get what they want. Santa is on a budget too.

When I leave to go shopping I'm always "going to a meeting with Santa"....LOL.
