Soap Nuts
Maddie&EthansMom wrote: I got them in yesterday and did two loads of laundry with them. The first load was white towels. They cleaned them really well and the towels came out of the dryer soft. There is no heavy perfume scent, just a clean, natural scent. Really nice...I like it. I don't use softener in my towels b/c I think it leaves a film and they don't dry you off as well.
The second load I did was the kids clothes. Some of them very dirty. I used the same nuts, cracking them before re-usage as suggested. They got the clothes clean and they just came out of the dryer super soft, but without the "film" that softener tends to leave on them.
Just a side note...we have really hard water here. I'm very impressed with these and will continue using them. However, I think I can only get two uses out of the same nuts and not three. We'll see.
mckayleesmom replied: Hope you don't mind my questions....How many nuts did you buy and what was the cost?
luvmykids replied: Thanks for the review....I've been waiting to hear about them before I try them.
A&A'smommy replied: thats awesome!!! I REALLY want to try them!!
Crystalina replied: Great to know! I ordered mine but my pc froze and I had to reboot after I gave my card info so I'm giving it a few days to see if it shows up on my statement before I re-order.
I can't wait!
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: Glad they work well! I *just* got mine in the mail, like 15 minutes ago, and I can't wait to try them!
I bought the BIG box of 36-50 loads and with shipping it was $20.74 or something. I bet I can squeeze out more loads than that though, as we have a water softener & can get by using 1/2 the amount of detergent.
maestra replied: Anyone try using these with high efficiency washers? I have a GE front loader, and would love to be able to use them, the girls and I all get allergic reactions from detergents.
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: I have a HE front loader, and just did 2 loads. They work GREAT! I am so glad I got some!! I used 2 nuts per load, and I washed them on warm. The great thing is NO static cling! I refuse to use dryer sheets, the stench makes me sick, and white vinegar doesn't always cut it (the air is so dry in here).
I give them up!!
moped replied: I would try them but I just bought norwex laundry soap - that is my only attempt at the environment...
www.norwex.com
I can get 160 loads for about$20/bag....with a front load washer
~Roo'sMama~ replied: That stuff looks cool too Jen. My Melaleuca stuff that I've been using is supposed to be environmentally friendly too. http://melaleuca.com/
Aimee ~ I'm glad they're working for you!! I still would love to try them because they're 100% natural and that's just cool. Maybe someday when money isn't so tight I will. Have you tried boiling them down to make a liquid detergent? I was really curious as to how well that would work - especially for using it as shampoo and multi-purpose cleaner.
maestra replied: I would love to try them- what was the website you all used again?
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: Michelle - I used this site: http://www.maggiespureland.com/ . There's a FAQ page here: http://www.maggiespureland.com/faq.html , and how to make a liquid soap here: http://www.maggiespureland.com/snop.html .
PrairieMom replied: mine are in the mail and should be here anyday. i am so glad to hear that they have been working well for you guys. I can't wait to get mine!
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: I seriously think I live in a cave, sometimes! I have NEVER heard of soap nuts. I'm gonna have to check these out.
:.Mrs_Mommy.: replied: I know what you mean! I had to check out the site Mollie put up just to have ANY idea what was going on! But that is a great idea and if the money situation wasn't so tight I would try it because Lily and I have such sensitive skin. Maybe when I get it all figured out I will try it.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I haven't used them yet but did do some futher research on them...I found this kinda interesting.
Looking at the fruit-I have seen the trees before. Good to know I can clean the clothes and fish with them if the need ever arises!
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: LOL, that's interesting Abbie!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I haven't boiled them yet. I paid $20 with shipping for 90 loads and I got an Earth Day special. I ordered mine from zamuta.com..based in OKC. I also have an HE washer. These are fine b/c they don't have a lot of suds.
I squeezed them after washing the second load and they smell funny, but the odor doesn't come out on the clothes. And some of the "soap" came thru the bag and it's definitely got the soapy qualities. It's so interesting!! I might try to boil some down this week.
I am saving a lot of money by using these. I never get as many loads from Tide as they say on the box and with the soap nuts I don't have to buy fabric softener.
MoonMama replied: I've been waiting to hear what someone who had used them thought. I ordered some for us and my ex-SIL, but they haven't gotten here yet. Thanks for the review Aimee!
