Soilds question?

3xsthefun wrote: Ok, I can't get Ryan to eat soilds at all. I have been trying for the last couple weeks. But he will not take anything. He will take one or two bites and make a awful face. He also likes to grab his spoon from my hand and play with the food.

I know he is hungry when I try to feed him because after I give up trying. He will take a bottle. It seems like all he wants to do is just drink his formula and not eat any soilds.

I have tried everything. I have tried cereal with formula in it or mixed some fruit in it. But he does not want anything to do with it. I have tried giving him veggies and fruits and he does the same thing makes a face like what is this.

The thing is if we are all at the table and eating he acts like he is interested what we are eating. I've tried feeding him while everyone else is eating but he still won't eat. All he wants to is play.

Anyone got any ideas how I can get him to like soilds? Could it be he is just not ready?

Also, I don't think he likes the spoon because yesterday he would not even open his mouth for me.

I'm not trying rush him. I mean he seems to gaining weight ok with him just eating his formula. I guess he will eat soilds when he is ready.

I guess I'm also bit concerned because I didn't have problems with the girls taking soilds.

Calimama replied: I would just try later on. Kinda sounds like he's not ready. Sorry I'm not much help. tongue.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I don't know, it sounds to me like he just isn't ready yet. I think I'd just wait another couple weeks and see if he likes it then. I had the same problem with Andrew kind of... the first two days I gave him solids (he was a week away from being 6 months) he loved it, and then after that he refused to eat. I tried to push it on him and I think that made it worse. I ended up waiting a couple weeks and then he started eating, but kind of reluctantly. I should have waited another couple weeks and then tried it again, but for some reason I was convinced he needed to be eating solids.

Maybe if he's acting interested while the rest of you are eating, you could try giving him a few cheerios. He can play with them and if some of them end up in his mouth he'll be learning to eat. happy.gif

luvmykids replied: Maybe he just wants to do it himself? You could do what Sara said, and give him some cheerios, or some overcooked pasta (so it's super soft). But he might be having trouble with so much texture, so a month or two and then trying again might make a difference.

3xsthefun replied: I think I will give him another couple weeks and try again.

I might give the cheerios a try for now. I've thought about giving him some but didn't know if it was still to soon. We tried give him some banana cookies that are made by Table Time. He likes them but he wants bite down on them and gets to big of pieces in his mouth. Luckly though he lets us get them out of his mouth with out a problem.

Do you think it would be ok give him those bitter biscuits also? Or is he still to young for those

luvmykids replied: I liked those biter biscuits because they couldn't bite off a big chunk, they just kind of gnawed on them laugh.gif

MommyToAshley replied: I agree with you, I'd wait another couple of weeks and then give him some finger foods. Ashley liked those gerber wagon wheels... I forget exactly what they are called. But, I think she might have been a little older.

3xsthefun replied: I think I'm going go ahead and get him some of those bitter biscuits tomorrow at the store.

Dee Dee I think they are called Wagon Wheels or least I'm pretty sure. I will look have to look and see what they are called.

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
Just be careful with the biter biscuits because sometimes they can get a chunk off. I gave them to Andrew kind of early but I watched him like a hawk when he was eating one. wink.gif I haven't ever given them to Allie because I found these things called rice rusks that are AWESOME at our Walmart - they're super thin and they just melt in the baby's mouth. Allie loves them. happy.gif She really likes the wagon wheels, and Zwieback toast too - and that just kind of crumbles off in itty bitty pieces and so there's no big choking worry there. thumb.gif

just to clarify too Allie's been eating the wagon wheels, zwieback toast, rice rusks and cheerios since she was about 6 months old. I think the biter biscuits are recommended for around 10 months. smile.gif

3xsthefun replied: Well, we tried the bitter biscuits today. And he done great with it. thumb.gif

He did get really, really, really messy though. laugh.gif I forgot about that part.

But anyways he loved it and had no problems with it at all. He didn't break of any chunks or anything.

Sara- next time I go back to Wal Mart I will look for those rice rusks so he can try them. I might also get the Zwieback toast next time also, I was going to yesterday. But decided go for the bitter biscuits.
Thanks for letting me know about the rice rusks. thumb.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
I hope you can find them! smile.gif I'm glad Ryan did good with the biter biscuits though... they are messy aren't they! The mess is why I haven't gotten any for Allie.. they just turn into goo and get everywhere! wacko.gif

3xsthefun replied: Yeah they are messy but glad he likes them!

The doctor said I can go ahead and try stage 2 foods if I want to also. I went ahead and bought him a couple jars of apples & bananas. I'm hoping he will like them. smile.gif
