sparkys2boys replied: ww so sorry about the ear infection They did know though for sure?? I would maybe write a note the next time that they are to keep her in so there is no case of a mix up. Hope she is feeling better soon
bawoodsmall replied: They are dumb. 40 would be a heatwave here lately.
Swood75 replied: Yeah, they knew because I took her on to school late yesterday and talked to her teacher and told her what the Dr said...(Dr said since she wasn't running a fever and felt ok and wanted to go that she could...LOL)....
LOL...40 is FREEZING here..It has been in the mid to upper 60's and really nice...So,I have been about to freeze all day...LOL..I couldn't live where some of you live..I would freeze to death..LOL
sparkys2boys replied: Well if you want them to leave her in tomorrow I would flat out tell them when you drop her off!! Maybe they were unclear as to let her out or not.. kwim.. I wiuld think they would have just kept her in but who knows
Swood75 replied: LOL...I don't think it would have been as bad if they would have atleast had her put her hood on kwim??
grandma replied: Man, I'd be mad too!
austins mom replied: i know how u feel. my little one has asthma and when we would have issue i would write a note not to let him go outside and play. they would make him go out and sit and watch the other kids play. i would complain to them but it still didnt work. so i hope something works for you.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Yikes...I'm shakin in my igloo right now, I can just imagine how she must have felt!!!
Kentuckychick replied: Do you have a handbook or anything for this preschool/kindergarten? I know that when I worked at the preschool it was specifically stated in our handbook that we would be going outside as long as the temperature was above 40 and below 90. It also stated the policy that children would not be allowed to stay inside due to illness (the statement was that if a child were sick enough not to go outside then they should not be at school). You may want to double check their written policy.
That said we always made sure the children wore hats and gloves provided by parents and on cooler days we would stay out a shorter amount of time... the teachers should be doing this!
I think you'd be surprised at how much children enjoy being outside even when we think it's freezing (I know I was!). Most often they are running and jumping and sweating and wanting to take off their coats because they are "SO HOT!" when we're standing there shivering.
Calimama replied: Ugh, what do they think the hood is there for? I hope she feels better soon.
3xsthefun replied: I would have been pretty upset too!
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: this morning it was 50 here and I had to fight Katy to put her sweatshirt back on because she thought her tank top was plenty. honestly I would never think of having a kid put a hood on because they had an ear infection. If the air was so cold it was causing her more pain I would think she would not be out playing she would be sitting down or covering her ear to make it feel better.
Oh yea and the policy at Katy's school last year was if it was above 20 they were playing outside...under 20 they had recess in the gym. No clue what it is now....probably no temperature policy since we are in CA but they do have a clean air rule so during all the big fires they were not allowed to play outside for like 2 weeks.
Swood75 replied: They don't have any kind of handbook etc with rules (for going outside etc)..And like I said,I don't think I would have been as upset about it if they would have made her put her hood on..Just getting out of my car long enough to walk down and get her (maybe 2 mins tops) I was froze..The wind was HORRID...
kimberley replied: my kids school is the same. they had a few indoor recesses but not yesterday or today.. 2 of the coldest days all year!! grrrrrrrr!! i saw one kid outside with shorts on. not kidding. minus 13 and he had shorts on and not one teacher said a word to him?! dumb!
Boo&BugsMom replied: Most schools or daycares have a policy that states if they are too sick to participate in any part of the daily routine, then they should stay home. So, not going outside usually is not an option. And I agree...if a child is that sick, they need to be home then. Plus, staffing numbers doesn't always allow for it. It's much easier said than done and parents often don't think about that. However, the hood or hat thing...yeah, that is common sense. She needs her little ears covered. Any time around this time of year, 40 or 40 below, the hat is on. Not only to cover the ears, but because heat that keeps the body warm escapes mostly from your head.
On a side note...I'd kill for 40's right now! Tanner's school has a policy that is it's below zero they wont go out. Anything above, they go out, unless it's a cold advisory.
Crystalina replied: Are you friggin serious Shawna? Izabella's school has not played outside in weeks! The kids are complaining but so be it. I know how horrible an ear infection is. Ow! They hurt!
Swood75 replied: I am as serious as the day is long..It was that cold outside yesterday and they went out..It was about 10 degees warmer today and they kept them in...
Jennie, you can have the 40's as soon as I get my 60's back in the next couple days...
Boo&BugsMom replied: You guys are big babies! 40 degrees...pish posh. Try 10 below.
