Someone stole Maddie's bike

kimberley replied: that is awful! how do people do that to a kid?! one time we were at an amusement park and Jacob dropped his favorite Gap cap. we looked for about 30minutes when someone spotted a young couple with a baby boy wearing his hat!!!! they were too far when we realized it to take it back but it was well worn and easily identifiable by a mark on the back. greedy, ignorant jerks!!

I had that happen to me when I was nine years old. The bike was stolen off of our front porch on Air Force base housing. I was seriously bummed. I honestly won't leave anything outside unless I can lock it down. You just never know.

My brothers had their bikes stolen all the time when we were growing up. Why do people do these things.

redchief replied: Awww... that's awful. I'm assuming you contacted the police? Our PD recovers about 60% of the bikes reported stolen here each year (being on a barrier island, it's kind of hard to hide a stolen bicycle).

Hubby is going to call today. I'm impressed though-60% recovered? The last time we had someone report a stolen bike the police told the person to not expect to see it again-recovery isn't great in our area.

In most areas stolen bike recovery is poor. Like I said, this being a barrier island makes it a lot easier. Not only that, but most of the bikes stolen here are taken by drunken idiots leaving the bars who don't want to walk six or eight blocks home. So they steal them and leave them on someone else's lawn.
