Sophia's Dr. appt today - osteopath
amynicole21 wrote: I took Sophia to a Doctor of Osteopathy today for her ear infections - sort of a last ditch effort before I go to an ENT for tubes. It went well, despite the fact that she screamed for most of the treatment Basically, the doctor did some cranial and spinal massage to open up some of the drain areas that are too tight. The idea is that once these are opened up a bit, her ears will drain and the infections will stop or at least lessen. I really liked the doctor, she was calm and nice and didn't get tense when Sophia was freaking out. We have another appointment next week, and we'll get a better idea then on whether we need to continue treatments on a regular basis.
I recommend anyone with chronic pain (knees, back, TMJ, migranes, PMS, etc) to look into finding an osteopathic doctor! It's a totally different approach to pain management and general health, and it's all natural. Thanks to Kit kats mom for suggesting I look into it!
DansMom replied: Someone suggested I see an osteopath for the click in my jaw. Ever since I had braces my jaw just doesn't align properly and can lead to pain. I might try that out some day. I hope Sophia's treatments are successful!
Kirstenmumof3 replied: That's sounds interesting. I wish I had heard about this before we took Claudia to see the ENT and had the tubes put in her ears. Hope it all works out for you!
kimberley replied: sounds like a great appt! let's hope this is the beginning of the end of ear infections for Sophia. let us know how it goes.
amynicole21 replied: Yep, I bet an osteopath could help you. My insurance covered it, so I was happy.
I have a click in my jaw, too, but my dentinst finally told me it is because I pull my lower jaw forward too much. I know I do this... sort of align the front edges of my top and bottom teeth, just a weird way I set my jaw. Also, if you bite with your front teeth a lot, it could cause the joint to pop out. I've also heard that this can happen from teeth grinding, and you can get a mouth guard to wear at night. Not sure if you have the same problem though...
kit_kats_mom replied: Hopefully it will work.
ediep replied: wow! SOunds intresting...I hope it works!
jcc64 replied: Here in my ultra crunchy town osteopaths and alternative medicine in all of its various forms are pretty popular. I think I told you I took my middle son to an osteopath/chiropractor for his chronic ear infections when he was Sophia's age. It was the only thing that worked for him, and he never got another infection again. Hope you have the same experience.
amynicole21 replied: Yep, I think you told me about it, too! I had forgotten who all was making the recommendations Thanks for the suggestion... I've got my fingers crossed!
Kaitlin'smom replied: I hope it works.....
coasterqueen replied: I read this yesterday and didn't post, silly me. Is an osteopathic doctor like a chiropractor? I should remember this with my 3 years working for a chiropractic association, but I don't.
Glad it has helped!!! I hope it continues to help and she doesn't have to have tubes.
amynicole21 replied: There may be some chiropractors who are also DO (doctors of osteopathy - instead of MD), but usually a DO has a lot more training. Basically, a DO has the same credentials as an MD, but thousands of hours of extra course work in order to become certified. I read the pamphlet yesterday They do more adjustments with the plates of the skull and in the pelvis rather than just the spine.
Guest replied: That's a great idea and I really will keep my fingers crossed that this will help your little Sophia!
Boys r us replied: I'm the guest...sorry!
