Speaking of bratz dolls
mckayleesmom wrote: We are a no bratz buying family....I just can't stand them. Mckaylee fought to get them forever and I never caved. She does have a shirt I realized she was wearing the other day...I let her wear it, but it will disapear pretty soon I didn't buy it..it came with those clothes the neighbor gave me. Anyway, When Mckaylee was about 3 she was arguing with me about the bratz dolls in walmart...I got fed up and yelled "the day they put on some clothes, you can have one"...I even had an applause from some other mothers in the isle... It was a great thing to say at the time, but now its starting to backfire because Mckaylee came to me the other day and swears that she saw a commercial where the bratz dolls are wearing clothes... Her memory amazes me sometimes....
I just told her that I didn't like their attitudes and I'm not spending my money on them..period.
Calimama replied: We don't buy them either. I don't like the name, the makeup, and the way they look like they belong on a street corner. We also don't buy some Barbie Dolls that look the same way.
mckayleesmom replied: I'm lucky because Mckaylee has barbies, but she isn't obsessed with them..She only has a couple and she hardly ever plays with them. I had barbie everything when I was her age. She would prefer a stuffed animal over barbies. She loves the barbie movies though...
Calimama replied: Me too! I was obsessed with Barbies! I had houses, boats, cars, pools, millions of accessories for the houses, Barbie kids, husbands, pets. I would play in my room for hours with those.
grandma replied: "their attitudes" ? Are the Bratz dolls snotty or what? I've heard alot of moms that don't like them...lol
mckayleesmom replied: I don't know if the newer cartoons are, but I have only seen one and it was some of the bratz dolls in school and they were refusing to let another girl sit with them because she wasn't cool enough...or something to that effect. I didn't wait around to see if there was a moral to the story...I just changed the channel.
I don't like alot of cartoons that teach kids bad things....Calliou teaches your kid to be a little brat and whine all the time and Max and Ruby teach kids that its ok to trick your brother into doing everything YOU want to do.
Kaitlin'smom replied: with no parents ever around
mckayleesmom replied:
Ya...and a little rabbit that still plays with dolls is allowed to babysit other children and take her little brother Max to the mall to go shopping..
Maybe it's differen't in the rabbit world...
All I know is I stopped letting Mckaylee watch it because she was acting out some of the stuff on Russell.
PrairieMom replied: It hasn't come up yet, since Al is only 2, but we will be a bratz free home as well, and i will not be buying them for anyone else either. We are also a gun free home. We ben received a toy one as a gift for his birthday last summer from someone who didn't know me better. it dissapeared shortly after they left.
lisar replied: I am not a fan of them either.
bawoodsmall replied: I envy you Tara. I so wanted to do the no gun home and would still like to but my children just use other stuff as guns. I think it started because all of the little kids emilys age are boys and they play that kind of stuff. They will make a stick into a gun. I hated it and still do but it was either let her play with them or make her a loner. I chose to let her play with them. I dont actually buy them though. Besides water guns..
Bratz dolls hate but I am not sure why I care because emily is not a girlie girl and I am about 99% sure could care less about what they are wearing. She doesnt care what she is wearing. She just wants one cuz her cousin has them.
stella6979 replied: Avery is just now starting to say "I want that" when she sees something on t.v., but she already knows that Bratz are not allowed. Whenever she sees the commercials for them she says...."I can't have those Mommy, they're ugly".
Crystalina replied: Izabella is beyond Bratz now but when she was into them they didn't bother me. I only bought her the ones with clothing. Believe it or not there are some that have layered outfits! The shows she was never allowed to watch d/t their attitudes.
A&A'smommy replied: I hate bratz dolls and alyssa will NEVER be aloud to have one, its crap like that that makes our YOUNGER children want to dress and act grown up. I just want my daughters to be little girls
luvmykids replied: Bratz hater here too. Kylie got a Bratz make up kit once for Christmas, I did cave and let her keep it but thats it and she knows it, doesn't even ask anymore.
jacobsmama replied: Agreed on that, but Max usually shows her in the end..
msoulz replied: LOL, when my son was in kindergarten he was invited to a girl's birthday party and the mom told me she like Bratz, so I sent DH out to get one. He came back with what looked like a little street walker to me. So I got on the phone with other parents of girls and apparently most of them look like that. We wrapped her up and sent him off to the party - and it just felt wrong!!!
Erin likes cars and balls and more boy-type stuff for now. I am hoping there is never a Bratz craze at my house.
jcc64 replied: I know many people here have strong feelings about the Bratz dolls- they've been discussed before. I am, as usual, in the minority--I don't have issues with them or Barbie. DD has several of the dolls, most of whom remain in their original outfits for a very short period of time anyway. DD is quite adept at differentiating between dolls and reality and I believe she learns what women are "supposed" to look like by observing real women in her life. I wear absolutely no makeup and don't own fishnet stockings, go go boots, mini skirts, or even high heels. I know others feel differently, and I respect that, but for us, there's been no harm done and tbh, I'm a big fan of the detachable shoes/feet.
Crystalina replied:
And why can't we, as parents, purchase the dolls that are wearing decent clothing? There are many, many Bratz dolls that come wearing pants and long sleeved shirts. And the outfits you can buy for them are just as covering...if you buy the right clothing. I agree that there are a lot of hoochie Brat dolls out there. My daughter owns many Bratz and there isn't a hoochie in the bunch.
jcc64 replied: Corey has the sporty Bratz dolls, both boys and girls. She has a baseball player, football, soccer, tennis, gymnast, ice skater, skiier, snowboarder. These are all sports that either she or her brothers play, and they figure prominently in her imaginative games. The outfits are pretty much just like she would wear, though maybe a little more glam. I like them, tbh.
luvmykids replied: I see where you're coming from, Crystal and Jeanne, I have seen some that aren't too bad. A big part of it for me is the name, I can't understand why they would market a product with a name that makes it sound cool to be a brat. I'm sure I'm making more out of it than it is, but I always tell Kylie being a brat isn't cool so I feel like I can't go out and buy a toy that basically says the opposite
Nina J replied: We are Bratz free and gun free too.
Some of the Bratz are okay, but I don't like there heavy makeup and the clothes some of them wear. DH absolutly hates them, he says it's just corporate pedophilia. I wouldn't buy one though, even if they made one with no makeup. I don't want to support the company that makes them.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: We are a bratty gun loving household. Katy has a bunch of the bratz. She plays with them occasionally no more or less than barbies or polly pocket. Matt has an attache case (better known as caboodle ) filled with army men and their paraphernalia (yes...guns) Katy has yet to turn into a street walker and Matt has never shot someone. We believe that toys can very easily just be toys.
