Speaking of changing times...
Danalana wrote: who all remembers (gasp!) encyclopedias???? I remember doing papers in high school and using them for my research....crazy to even think of now!
DVFlyer replied: Sure do. Encyclopedia Brittanica. Had a full set my dad bought from a door-to-door salesperson.
Kaitlin'smom replied: yep, infact I have the set we used growing up, they are in a bookshelf in our bedroom. Kailtin loves looking at them, she asked what they were for and I told her, sheof course asked why we did not just look it up, I had to and tell her hun when I was a kid there was no internet. she was like I am glad I got them from my parents they are good to have and fun to look at again.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: My mom said that most thrift stores won't even take them because nobody wants them. I remember looking stuff up in ours all the time when I was a kid.
Cece00 replied: even better- do you guys remember using that dewey decimal system look up in a library???
A&A'smommy replied: what are those? lol j/k
luvmykids replied: Forgot about that, lol! And the librarian taking the card out, stamping the due date, filing it in the litle box.....
I was talking to a friend about this and accounting...back in the day every stinking thing had to be written in a ledger book, added by hand, YUCK!
Danalana replied: Oh yes...the dewey decimal system! Man, we actually knew how to look up stuff and find it. Our kids won't know how. All they'll do is Google.
Calimama replied: We used computers in HS for research papers... and middle school!
luvmykids replied: I forget what a youngin you are
~Roo'sMama~ replied: The library in the little town near my parent's house still does it that way! I use the blue card with the due date stamped on it as a bookmark.
coasterqueen replied: Same here.
Whatever happened to our set?
You know the sad thing is I can't even walk into a library and figure out how to search for books anymore.
BAC'sMom replied: Yes I sure do.
As a matter a fact I still have the our set.
Cece00 replied: We did, too. I've had a computer since I was 5 (I'm 26).
But our schools still had encyclopedias.
Of course the last time I saw the old fashioned cards in the library wouldve been elementary school.
