Spin off from another thread - school lunches

Hillbilly Housewife wrote: Do you do them the night before? the morning of? What are they?

I make most of mine in the mornings... however sandwiches are usually ready to go way ahead of time... when I bake my bread, I slice up 2 loaves loaves, and make the sandwiches then and there... then I just freeze them.. so in the mornings all i have to do it take what I need out of the freezer and put it in the sandwich containers for the kids and dh... the sandwiches can be whatever the mood strikes for... i usually make baloney, egg, chicken or tuna though.

other stuff is usually cut up / ready to go too... so everyone's lunches are all pretty much grab and go... I'm really anal like that. I have all the little containers filled and put aside int he fridge... only takes 5 mintues to get everyone's lunch ready!

usually, lunches are:

sandwich
applesauce or plain yogurt with some jam for flavor
granola bar
apple or grapes
cheese cubes
carrot sticks or cucumber slices

sparkys2boys replied: Ohhh the good old school lunch wacko.gif I am ever so tired of making them tongue.gif I make mine in the evening all except the sandwhiches, I do those in the morning. Logan is super picky so I make the same two things all the time for him..

PB or cheese sandwhiches, and then sometime's he will take chicken noodlesoup along with stuff for snacks

Cheese stringers
Granola bars
Pudding
Yougurt
Crackers and cheese
Salami stick sliced up
Baby carrots

lisar replied: I always make Lexi's lunches the night before. I am not a morning person. Normally it consist of PB&J sandwich, bag of chips or pretzles, Sliced up apple or orange or something along those lines. And she has to have a snack for after school care so normally its a bag of chips or a little debbie snack or something

ZandersMama replied: my kids arent even in school and that is what i do. at nite i cut up veggies and stuff for their lunches so it buys me a little moretime for laundry or whatever at lunchtime. I never thought of putting jam in the yougurt though, thats a really good idea im going to try that. thumb.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: PB and jam would be sooo easy... but they're not allowed at school sad.gif

Sometimes in the mornings if I've run out of sandwiches or whatever reason I don't have any made...they get cheese sandwiches. With Mayo. emlaugh.gif

lisar replied:
Thats the only kind of sandwhich Lexi will eat.

sparkys2boys replied:
So far at Logan's school they are allowed PB until they have allergy alert from a parent. Cameron's k-garten on the other hand is not allowed nuts of nay kind. But he doesn't have to a sandwhich so its ok there for me.

Kaitlin'smom replied: most I try and do the night before or now since I bought more things in bulk I went a haead and spilt it up so its more grab and go now, unless she wants a PB&J then I make it that in the morning. mostly I am trying to do the grab and go so I dont have to spend 15 minutes making or thinking of what to pack for 2 people.

booey2 replied: As I posted on the other thread I try and do them the night before but that always doesn't happen. No peanut butter or nuts allowed at our school either. Matt has a severely allergic kid in his class, already had an episode at school and had to go to the hospital. Not sure what the other kids parents are thinking, rolleyes.gif they sent a note home at the beginning of the school year, stating no nuts of anykind.

My lunch usually gets done in the morning as I don't know what I want the night before. rolling_smile.gif

eta:

Boys: buns, cheese stringers, slice of bread, granola bar, piece of fruit, popcorn, juice or water

DH: peeled sliced apple, buns, cold meat, cheese, juice box.
He calls this his "Snack" and will go out for lunch. He usually eats this around 10am, after he skips breakfast. LOL emlaugh.gif

Me: cous cous, diced tomatoes, some protien
salad with tuna
canned soups
yogurt, fruit and sometimes popcorn

luvbug00 replied: morning of

Mya hates samiwiches so i do everything seperate

salami

pretzals
cookies ( 100 calerie pack)
juice box
fruit or veggie

MommyToAshley replied: Ashley doesn't pack a lunch yet since she only goes half-day. She does take a snack and I usually put that in her book bag the night beore (mostly so I don't forget)... unless she is taking fruit then I put that beside her bag and stick in there in the morning.

I'm not sure what I will do once she starts packing/eating lunch at school.

DillsMommy replied: I just make Dylans the morning of. He gets a sandwich--either ham, bologna, pb&j, turkey, salami, I usually let him pick. A Juice box and some kind of snack. I feel like a bad mom. blush.gif I usually give him chips, cookies, little debbie cakes, those sort of things (not that he ever eats them anyways, I made a post about that a couple months ago.) I'd like to give him cut up apple slices, oranges etc... but don't they go bad by the time they eat them? unsure.gif That's why I usually pack stuff that's in packages.

Calimama replied: I pack Miabella's for day care the morning of.

She gets a fruit cup, an apple, a turkey wrap, string cheese, and a bottle of water.

holley79 replied:
I stick my fruits in the fridge the night before. When I get up in the morning I cut up my fruit and put it in baggies. It is normally still good by the time I eat it around 11 or 12. Annika is the same way. I cut her up fruit to take to her day home. Her provider provides meals but I provide the fruit because those are pricey right now.

CantWait replied: Well now that I have 2 to make, and Anthony leaves earlier then Robbie, I make them the night before.

It's funny you should mention this, with Ron's cookbook, not only did I put recipes in there for dinner, but make a list of suggested lunches for Anthony's daycare. I've got about 18 different options lol.

Brias3 replied: I always make up lunches the night before for Ryan and Aliyah- I have literally NO extra time in the morning for that. Mason doesn't have lunch at school and Bruce barely ever takes a packed lunch off to work.

Ryan's the only one who will eat a sandwich, so I'll do tortilla wraps, or deli meat and cheese cubes for Aliyah and then both get a baggie of sliced veggies, some type of fruit, and then a snack of some sort- crackers, pudding cup, yogurt tube, etc. They purchase their milk at school each day and then typically eat the school hot or cold lunch once or twice a week too, if the menu is something they like.

Aliyah still also needs to take a snack during the day, so she'll get either crackers, a granola bar, a fruit cup, snack mix, trail mix, string cheese- something like that. I pack it in her lunch box and use an ice pack in each of their lunch bags to keep things cool that need to be.
