Still no power

My2Beauties wrote: We slept over at Traci's house last night which is Staci's sister (Des's mom's sister). I did get to sleep in a bed and got some more sleep, but I'm just really getting frustrated having to sleep at someone else's house. Brian and I slept on a full size kid's daybed rolleyes.gif Brian checked on the house this morning and still no power bawling.gif We were the second area to go out and a bunch of our friends have it back on who went out after us. Grrrr growl.gif This is really starting to tick me off. All of the restaurants that didn't have power in our area yesterday afternoon had it yesterday evening, I mean it's like ok they are out there in our area, work on our street...LOL I'm going to call them today and let them know I'm having surgery soon and need my power as soon as possible, I gotta go to drastic measures here LOL! laugh.gif Ok so I'm being a whiny butt but still I'm sick of this! mad.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: hug.gif I hope you get power back soon, it sucks not having any we went for over 48 hours after ike blew though ohio with none, it was not fun.

gr33n3y3z replied: That sucks I hope it comes on soon

boyohboyohboy replied: I think I would call too...I hope you get it back soon!

Kentuckychick replied: Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

We were out for a week in '03 and it was no fun. I know they're saying it's worse this time around... 600,00 + without power. There's an area here in lex. where htey're expecting the power to be out for weeks wacko.gif

Can you rent a generator to power a few small things in your house so at least you could sleep there?

coasterqueen replied:
That is what I was going to suggest.

The one year we had bad tornadoes and were without power for, I can't even remember how many days it was, we went out and bought a generator.

Dh rigged the furnace so it could be plugged into the generator as that's our first priority - heat, especially in the cold winter months when we lose power often. We were also able to plug in the refrigerator and one other thing like tv or hairdryer, whatever we needed. It wasn't the best situation, but worked and we could stay in the comfort of our own home. We even used the camping stove to cook on. LOL.

MommyToAshley replied: I'm sorry, being without power just plain sucks. I never realized how much we depend on it until we had to go without. We were only without for a few days this past September, but my parents were out of power for two weeks. I don't know how they did it. (They wouldn't come stay with us)

If the power is back on in the main streets in your area, then they are probably getting close to getting your power back on. hug.gif

DVFlyer replied: *standard disclaimer*

If you rent a generator, they'll tell you, but it's worth repeating here, do not hook it up so that the power can go back into the "grid" or power lines. The last thing you want to do is electrocute the electrician trying to restore power to your house.

/disclaimer.

coasterqueen replied:
laugh.gif I have to ask, how does one do that? I leave it up to my electrical engineer of a husband to deal with stuff like that. I just remember when he said he was going to rig the furnace to hook it up to the generator, I was a bit nervous he was doing something that would damage the furnace, but he convinced me to have faith in him and I did. rolling_smile.gif

DVFlyer replied: While I'm not 100% positive on the details, basically, whatever you plug into the generator can not be attached to an electrical outlet.

Ideally, the situation resolves itself. i.e. you unplug the light from the outlet and plug it into the generator... therefore having no connection to the home's AC circuit.

Some people, though, will plug the generator into an outlet therefore powering the house. Unfortunately, that sends power back out to the street.

I've seen it where it's been suggested that while using the generator, you turn off the main fuse in the panel. This disconnects your house from the grid completely.

My2Beauties replied: We've looked at generators and they are pricce gauging on them mad.gif they want about $800 for a small one and we cant afford it right now, not to mention you can't find one within 50 miles of this city right now anyways rolleyes.gif I know what we need to invest in after this is all said and done incase it happens again though!

Kaitlin'smom replied: oh one other thing UNPLUG eveything you dont want to lose anything in a power surge. we have a lot of claims for just that, course the news told everone to unplug but um hello if they dont have power they cant be warned!

Kentuckychick replied: We didn't have power from about noon today til five minutes ago... and boy... that was bad enough. Send you all the warm vibes I can muster from my frozen toes up! hug.gif

MoonMama replied: hug.gif hug.gif I hope they get it on very soon hun!
