Strawberries and babies....
kayla's mama wrote: Is it safe to give Kayla some strawberries. I was planning on peeling the skin off so she wouldn't choke on the seeds. But are they good for babies, can they digest them? Or should I just steer clear of them.
Our strawberries look so good I can't wait til tonight when we eat them
C&K*s Mommie replied: I have never heard of strawberries being unsafe, unless for any other reason she would have an allergic reaction to it.
MyLuvBugs replied: Strawberries are high on the food allergy scale, so rub the strawberry on her arm or back first and if there's no hives or rash type of reaction, just cut them into pieces and give them to her. No need to peel them, the seeds are way too small for them to choke on.
coasterqueen replied: I waited til Kylie was 2 before giving her strawberries and plan to do that with Megan as long as her sister doesn't sneak her some. Strawberries are Kylie's favorite.
They can be very highly allergenic. My SIL had a reaction to them after eating a TON of them at once.
1lilpeanut2love replied: I SAY GO AHEAD AND GIVE THEM TO HER! I HAVE!!
luvmykids replied: ITA with doing the allergy test first, just b/c Kylie had a reaction to them the first time and it was awful. I let her eat too many altogether but the reaction was terrible. She hasn't had probs since then, but I'd rather be safe than go through that again.
kayla's mama replied: Glad I asked. I had no idea that they were on the allergy list. If you do the skin test how long does it take, like overnight or would I know within an hour or so?
luvmykids replied: I'm not sure, Kylie's reaction hit while she was still eating them, I'd guess you'd get an indication within a short amount of time if she were allergic, just like with grass itch or something. I'm allergic to other foods and react instantly, even wiping it on her skin I think it would show pretty quickly if she were allergic.
kimberley replied: i waited too because James did react to them at about 18mos. they are definitely right up there with nuts for allergies.
MyLuvBugs replied: It'd be within an hour or less if your super allergic. I was tested for seafood/fish and broke out in a rash with in 5 minutes. lol
Jamison'smama replied: Jack eats about 6-8 a day!
CantWait replied: I didnt' realize that strawberries were big on the miss list either. I would say that if the reaction isn't next to instant, that it shouldn't be a big concern. Serious allergies are known to accur right away. If you rub it on herand there isn't an instant reaction, she might still have a small (just a rash) reaction after eating it, but nothing that will hurt her.
CantWait replied: Forgot to say that I gave both Robbie and Anthony berries before they turned 1, and they were fine. They sell strawberry babyfood also if you want to try her on that first.
kayla's mama replied: Thanks ladies I'm off to see if she's allergic to them. Hope she's not!!!!!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I hope she's not allergic. What a terrible thing to be allergic to.
kayla's mama replied: Well we had our strawberries....They were so good and sweet
We did the skin test on Kayla anshe was fine. She loved them, she'll eat anything
luvmykids replied: Strawberries are one of life's little joys .... it would be so sad to be allergic! Glad she liked them!
