Strep throat maybe?
coasterqueen wrote: Ugh, I know when I ask this you all are gonna tell me to go to the doctor . Trust me I would if there was someone else here at work, my lovely co-worker took one of the busiest weeks off to go on vacation.
Anyways, I have had a sore throat for a few days now. Yesterday I started feeling it in my neck, painful to move my neck back and forward and my glands feel huge (although I'm terrible figuring out my glands, lol). This morning I had trouble swallowing water and can't move my neck/head forward without feeling pain in my glandular region. My throat is red raw but no white stuff and I have no fever.
Could it be strep or just a very bad sore throat? All the other times (MANY) I've had sore throats since Thanksgiving they've never made my glands hurt this bad or my neck.
I called my boss and he knows I'm exposing him to sickness but we have no choice right now. We have two huge meetings I at least have to get put together for this week (but will not attend, at this point). I also tried to get into Urgent Care this morning before work but the wait was HORRIBLE. I can't get in to see my reg doc either so I guess I'll go back to urgentcare after work.
Kaitlin'smom replied: ya it does sound a bit like strep, course it could be somethign else just wont knwo till you see a doc. sounds like some meds might be needed to finnaly kick what ever this is.
ps can you call and talk to your doctor to see if he thinks that what it is and maybe get a script called in?
coasterqueen replied: Thanks Di. I put a call into my doc, but I'm betting he won't unless I come in. He's notorious for saying, well I don't know unless I see it. BUT I did leave a message saying I only have about a 1/2 hour I can get away today and if they could just set up a culture for me to take and leave then that could work for me. We'll see.
I just called him recently for thrush meds which they did give me w/o seeing me so I'm sure they are rolling their eyes now that I'm calling AGAIN.
As long as I take 3 motrin I can manage the pain.
coasterqueen replied: Thanks Di. I took your advice and BEGGED my doctor to call in a throat culture for me at the clinic closest to me and so I'm going there to get it done at lunch. Unfortunately I won't find out the result til tomorrow afternoon. So I really hope I haven't given it to DH or the kids .
My boss said he's feeling the same way but agreed we both need to be here through Thursday at least no matter how contagious we are. He better not get upset at me when he gets his kids sick.
I just hope it's not strep.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I hope its not. Either way glad your getting it checked. Sucks when you have to work no matter what. Hope you can have friday off and rest.
luvmykids replied: Have you been exposed to strep? It's miserable to be so sick and have to be at work, hope your day goes quickly!
coasterqueen replied: No I have not been exposed that I know of. I wouldn't even think I have it if it wasn't for some of my symptoms don't add up and it's MUCH worse than what I had the other times I've had sore throats these past few months.
Di - yes, it sucks to have to work being sick, but just push through it. I am getting a crown put in Friday morning and have to put 4 hours in at work and I'm off the rest of the day to clean house for company coming in town. So I really have NO time to be sick either.
redchief replied: Could be strep. BTW, we're almost all exposed to strep bacteria every day. It becomes a problem when our immune system is compromised and the bacteria bloom.
CosmetologyMommy replied: it might not be full blown yet because I think usually a fever comes with strep. I would still get to the doc soon so you can stop it from getting worse.
CosmetologyMommy replied: I take it back, I had strep this week, I caught it from my sis and I did not have a fever!
Kaitlin'smom replied: Karen did you find out the culture results? are you feelign better?
coasterqueen replied: Thanks for asking Di. I did get the results back and they were negative thank goodness. That was the worst sore throat I've ever had! Anyways, this is the first day I really feel better. My throat is still tender, but not real sore like it was.
Kaitlin'smom replied: Oh I am glad to hear your feeling better. I am glad your throat is feelign better. I hate sore thoats.
