Sugar Shocker!

mummy2girls wrote: Tonight I went to a workshop through my work called sugar shocker. Man the things i learned was nasty!

1 can of pop has 10 tsp of sugar
a medium slurpee has 12 tsps of sugar
one of those mega gulps has get this... 52 tsp of sugar!

gatorade or any sport drink has around 9.5 tsp of sugar
juice boxes has 7 tsp of sugar...

it is just so nasty to know what some kids are putting in thier bodies... ewwwww

A&A'smommy replied: yeah I already knew that because of my mother she told me about it.. can you amagine how much those "energy" drinks have in them!!!! YUCK I still drink and occasional soda I'm addicted to diet dr. pepper wink.gif

sounds like it was a nice educational meeting thanks for sharing the information!! thumb.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied: ohmy.gif Holy Moly! No wonder kids go nuts.gif silly.gif nuts.gif when they get a soda or slushy!

C&K*s Mommie replied: I knew that sodas has plenty of sugar, but I never thought of it terms of tsp's! YUCK! I cannot imagine dropping 10tsp's of sugar into my mouth.

And juice.... I did not know that. I always thought of Juicy Juice being the best thing for them as far as juice goes. Hmmmm.... bigthink.gif may have to ease up on the juices, now.

ammommy replied: Juices do have a lot of sugar, but the ones made from 100% fruit juice have less added sugar so it's better for kids. It's the juice drinks and juice coctails that you have to watch.

luvbug00 replied: Yummy!! tongue.gif fortunately squirrl survives on juice boxes and chocolate milk. no slurppies or big gulps here.

fashionmumofboys replied: Gotta love that sugar. LOL!!!

MommyToAshley replied:
I am pretty sure she is referring to Juice drinks and not Juicy Juice. Juicy juice does have 100% fruit juice and no added sugar. While fruit juice does have sugar, it's natural sugar and digested differently. That's why kids don't get sugar buzzes when you give them fruit... it contains lots of natural sugar but it's broken down differently by the body than the sugars in candy and junk food. Fruit and 100% fruit juice are actually good for them... in moderation.

coasterqueen replied: Stemming from what Dee Dee says about fruit in moderation....OMG Kylie is the FRUIT GODDESS and will eat fruit 24/7. I have such a hard time stopping her but I'd rather her eat that then junk food, ya know.

MommyToAshley replied:
Ashley eats a lot of fruit as well. She'll pick grapes over a cookie any day. I'm with you, I'd rather see her eating fruit... And drinking 100% juice over pop or Kool-Aid. thumb.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Glad I'm not the only one with a fruit monster. happy.gif I also prefer juice over koolaid, but I must admit last week I ran out of juice and I keep forgetting to get some at the store, so I made her some koolaid. blush.gif blush.gif rolleyes.gif I need to go to the store.

mummy2girls replied:
What i meant to say is the ones that say juice is fine and have more natural sugar than anything..the things like punch, cocktail is the ones you need to avoid if you can..

luvmykids replied: I always dilute their juice with water ..... is that not necessary then?

CosmetologyMommy replied: eeek! I better watch MY pop intake!
