Suggestion for a friend that just had surgery

MommyToAshley wrote: A friend of mine just had surgery. Her daughter is in Ashley's preschool class and we live close by each other but don't really get together a lot. She just had surgery and is going to be in the hospital for a week. I should go visit her in the hospital, but since we are just getting over being sick ourselves, I don't want to give it to her or catch anything myself. (That sounds horrible, doesn't it. blush.gif ) I am going to call her. I want to send her something too but don't have a lot of money in the budget. Any ideas of something that I could send that would be a nice gesture but not break the bank. She had surgery on her digestive system so she's on a liquid diet, so a fruit or food basket is out.

1lilpeanut2love replied: I think a simple card would work. I love getting cards they mean alot when a person writes a message inside of them. Maybe flowers too!! Just a suggestion!!

amynicole21 replied: Hmmm, I was going to suggest a cookie bouquet until I read that last part. I would just send her a potted plant or something. I always think those are nicer than flowers, you know? The hospital usually has these in the gift shop.

mckayleesmom replied: How about a nice mug with different kinds of teas that she can test out??

punkeemunkee'smom replied: When I had a laporosocpy done a friend of mine brought me a really cool big mug and a basket with packages of soup and teas (I know Celestial seasonings makes a sample box...) It was neat and made me feel good for a longtime when I drank out of that mug-it always brought to mind that I was loved! wub.gif If you don't want to go see her incase she should catch something-you could probably drop it off at the volunteers station in the hospital and they would take it to her.....Hope she recovers quickly! smile.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: How about just a small basket of spa products, like lotion, massage oil and maybe something for the bath. It doesn't have to be much. Look for something on sale at Bath & Body.

CantWait replied: I like the idea for flavoured tea, and a special mug. Hope she's feeling better soon.

Jamison'smama replied: If you can drop something off somewhere instead of sending it I would suggest a big basket of magazines---all the newest People, Entertainment Weekly, all the good gossip ones you would never buy yourself, and maybe a crossword puzzle book as well. I would LOVE that if i was in the hospital for a while.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
That sounds PERFECT!!! thumb.gif

holley79 replied: A great get well card, phone call. If you have a picture of both your girls together or can get one put it in a nice frame and have it taken to her. I just got some really nice frames from the Dollar Tree. (Can't afford the expensive ones.)

paradisemommy replied: brenda wrote what i was gonna suggest!! thumb.gif

amymom replied: Having just had surgery, I can tell you what I received that I appreciated: The meal that was prepared and sent over for my family, the card with good wishes in it, the magazines that I could read and the crossword puzzle books.

All good suggestions above.

luvmykids replied:
Thats a nice idea, a meal for her family, since she's out of commission they probably haven't had a decent meal!

Nina J replied: I like the magazine idea. Also, someone once got me a trivia book while I was in hospital. I don't know where you'd get one though, but I spent hours reading it.
Crosswords and other puzzle books are good too.
