TTC & Nursing - Question
paradisemommy wrote: I was talking to my ob dr. (went in for my annual) and she was saying as long as I am bf, it's a good chance that I won't get pg. I was telling her my periods have been really light the last few months and she said because they have been light - that may be an indicator that i'm not even ovulating.
Question: Did you guys have a harder time ttc while you were still nursing?
jem0622 replied: Ha! Heck no! That is how I got pregnant when Gabe had just turned a year. I was still nursing when I got pregnant. Once you are having periods then you are ovulating.
How many times a day do you nurse?
I don't think it means a thing, actually.
MomToMany replied: Sorry I don't have any advice for you, Tammy. Although Kayla was conceived rather easily, LOL! My periods were always heavy, especially when they finally came back 11 months PP when I was nursing Hannah. Kayla was conceived 3 months later. I'm hoping AF comes back soon (gosh, I can't believe I SAID that!), so we can have #6 when we want.
I also wanted to say what an incredibly cute avatar you have! Taven is SOOOO cute ! I'd love to kiss & hug him all day!
kit_kats_mom replied: Um, I sure didn't have a problem, much to my suprise
I didnt' even start any kind of cycle until Katherine was about 16 mos and they were light and erratic. It was after my second short period that I was nursing K one night and it occured to me that "hey! I think it's been awhile" so I checked & it had been 45 days. Didn't think too much about it since I was so irregular anyway but I bought a test and wham! preggo.
Could you start charting for a couple of cycles to just check and see if you are ovulating?
coasterqueen replied: I had no problems at all ttc while nursing Kylie .
amynicole21 replied: Nope! No problems here.
maestra replied: No problems here either! I did chart my cycles though, (w/ temping and everything) which proved I was ovulating. Good luck!
Jamison'smama replied: No problems for me either. I had only had about 4 periods in 20 months of nursing so I actually had no idea I was ovulating or pregnant. We had a lot of trouble TTC Jamison (Clomid) but for some reason the hormones were in our favor this time since we hadn't even started trying.
paradisemommy replied: Thanks, Mollie!!!
And thanks everyone for your responses - was just curious. I relayed what the dr. said to dh and from that time on, he was stuck on cutting taven off completely and that is something that I refuse to do. He finally laid off though.. ..I conviced him that if it was meant to be, then we will get pg.. (which i really do honestly believe!!)
as far as how often he is nursing - we still nurse a good 3 to 4 times a day (which according to the dr. was A LOT)..
Just gonna take it day by day!!
paradisemommy replied: ok - i am absolutely oblivious to what all this charting stuff is because i have never actively ttc. taven was just a nice surprise!!
i am quite regular as far as my cycles go, but not sure what charting is/does??
amynicole21 replied: Charting is just recording your temps and (ick) cervical mucus consistance. There are lots of sites online that can explain it to you, and a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility for more indepth explainations. There are peaks and valleys in your body temp depending on where you are in your cycle, and your CM changes consistancy in a predictible pattern as well. I never did this, but all of the ttc boards at ivillage tought me a thing or two
maestra replied: Just by recording temps and keeping an eye on my cervical mucus, I could tell when I was ovulating. I knew that the days when my mucus was favorable, and it was close to the time I would ovulate, it was time to bd. It took only one month using that method.
fertility friend is a free site that you can use to help with this. It will help you learn how to analyze the patterns. There is also a pay component to the site, which has even more benefits.
The book that Amy mentioned, by Toni Weschler, is great. It taught me so much about my body that I never knew.
mama3x replied: Tammy~I had absolutely no problem because I wasn't even trying to get pg.
I was BFing DD up until this past July (I took a month to wean her - her choice). I didn't get my first period until (I think) October of 2003. I conceived somewhere in late April/early May even though my periods were pretty regular considering I wasn't on the Pill. We were only DTD during my "safe weeks" and when my discharge didn't indicate I was ovulating.
Well here I am now due in January so I can't really say that BFing got in the way!
paradisemommy replied: thanks everyone!!! i sometimes think though the more you try, the more stress you go through and the harder it is to get pg. i don't think i really want to *worry* about it that much and if it happens it happens - if not, the way i look at it, is it's more time that i get one on one time with taven!!! actually for now though - i'm gonna really try and drop some extra pounds i put on first!!!
i'll definitely look into those places you recommended!!! thanks for all the great advice!!!
