TV in the bedroom... - Do you? Don't you? Your thoughts.
MoonMama wrote: My mom and I were talking today and somehow TVs in the bedroom came up. She doesn't have one in her room and never has. DH and I on the other hand...not only have a TV in our bedroom, we also have digital cable with 250 plus channels, a VCR and a DVD player. I know we are out of control. Really we don't watch it much but its always on low at night. DH has gotten me used to it at night. Really I don't care one way or the next. But it got me thinking who does and doesn't have a TV in their bedroom and would you rather not if you do? (closest thing to a TV lol)
ETA: My dad on the other hand has been trying to get my mom to add one to their bedroom for years.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Before the kids, DH swore to never have a tv in our room. But now we have one because it's easier when Wil wakes up early, crawls in bed with us and demands cartoons. This way mommy can still sleep for awhile, nurse Wesley and then get up for my day feeling a little better, kwim? We also have a DVD player.
ZandersMama replied: I have to have a tv in my room, cannot sleep if i dont
HuskerMom replied: Dh and I never have had a tv in the bedroom. If we did it would never get watched
lisar replied: I have one in my bedroom with the vcr, dvd player. Lexi has one in her room with her dvd, vcr and v-smile. I harldy ever watch it though.
Twelve Volt Man replied: We have one. I watch it, occasionally, but could easily live without it.
Our Lil' Family replied: Yes we do, watch tv every night before bed.
C&K*s Mommie replied: We do not in our own bdrm, we used to in other places we have lived at. I agree with something someone (on a decorating show) once said, a bdrm is a supposed to be a place of peace, comfort and romance so having a tv in the bdrm takes much of that away. I would rather not have a tv in the bdrm, but if Chris ever gets his big screen that he wants for the LR, then the only other option is to put the current tv in the bdrm. Our girls have one in their playroom.
luvmykids replied: I heard that somewhere too. I have one but usually only watch it if I'm catching up on stuff I've DVR'd or listen to the news in the morning.
Truthfully, back in the day before having a tv in there DH and I had our best talks in bed.
A&A'smommy replied: We do, we also have satelite, and a dvd player (my vcr is hooked up to my computer).. We watch it mostly at night before going to be its my "wind down" time and alyssa gets to watch movies on it ONLY on the weekend or if we have had a rough day.
Crystalina replied: Well, I turned my DishNetwork off about 3 mos ago. Wasn't trying to censor my kids but Mr. Evan was turning into a t.v.holic. He wouldn't do anything and when he did he wanted to rush back to Nickelodeon. So I take them to Blockbuster to pick out a few movies and have noticed t.v. time cut way down. I can still watch my shows online. So to answer the OP yes we have t.v.s in our rooms (kids included) but no they don't get used alot.
CantWait replied: I agree with that completely, however we have a t.v. in our room since we moved to New Brunswick.
Calimama replied: No way, our bedroom is all about romance.
MoonMama replied: Can you come explian that one to Alec because he seriously doesn't get it?
BabyOwen427 replied: We had one in our room when we were forced to live with his parents for a couple of months but we realized that we spent all day watching it and didn't do anything else. So when we bought our house my tv went into the kitchen and his went into the living room. And I don't plan on ever buying one for the kid's room.
gr33n3y3z replied: I guess they cant multi task LOL No just kidding
I can see where it could get in the way in the bedroom but only if your not in the mood and couldnt block out the TV bc a lack of intrest in the other task in hand.
mom21kid2dogs replied: We don't. We aren't big TV people, though. We have one TV in the whole house and it most assuredly is not in the bedroom. The only time I ever wanted one in the bedroom was when I was on bedrest and was SO BORED. Needless to say, delivery cured the boredom problem.
mom21kid2dogs replied: OMGosh Lisa, that is TOO FUNNY!!!!
3xsthefun replied: We do but it is not hooked up to the satellite. We just have the playstation hooked up to it if we want to play games.
jcc64 replied: We have our biggest, nicest tv in our bedroom- the PS3 is hooked up to it, as is the DVD and our DVR. It's pretty much where we do all of our tv related activities. I should say that in the winter, our living room, which is all french doors and poorly insulated, is simply too cold to comfortably hang out in. Our bedroom is huge, carpeted with a king size bed- it's almost like our family room. Believe me, it does not intefere with romance or sleep.
coasterqueen replied: You are funny Lisa.
We have a tv and a dvd player in our bedroom. Doesn't bother us in the sleep or romance department.
stella6979 replied: Well DH works midnights, so I HAVE to have a tv in the bedroom. I can't fall asleep if it's too quiet, so it's usually on ALL night long.
redplaydoh replied: No we don't have one, nor will we ever have one there. To us the bedroom is for romance and sleeping... My mother has had a TV in her bedroom for years and I think she's created a bad habit having to sleep with the TV on. She doesn't sleep well here because there isn't a TV playing in the background. I've told her I think our minds need to rest too and your mind is still hearing all that stuff even if you're asleep. By the end of her visits here she always says she sleeps better and won't sleep with the TV anymore but she always goes back to it. I think it's a waste of power myself.
DillsMommy replied: We have one. Dylan watches it some in the mornings when he crawls in bed with me and I watch it in the evenings when DH is on his message board. I gotta watch my reality shows and food network!
The romance department gets taken care of regardless if there is a t.v. or not.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Yep, we have a small 21 inch (I think). It's mostly my tv. It gets used mostly at night during the week because hubby and I differ so much in our tv viewing. We sometimes watch the same stuff on certain nights, but usually it's something different from the other. That one and the one in our living room are the only two in our house. NOW...tv in the kids room...NO WAY! They wont have one until they are teenagers, if that. I have a preschool girl, 5 years old, who has a tv in her room and watches it all the time it's ridiculous. JMO, but it's just too young, especially since her mom uses it as a babysitter a lot. Perhaps if you have the will power to not let it become that it would be different though. This mom does not. Sorry to get off track, but the thread reminded me of that as well.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Oh, our satalite is also hooked up to both tv's.
kit_kats_mom replied: We do have a TV in the bedroom but it's rarely on. I usually listen to the news while I'm working (my desk is also in the bedroom), and I'll occasionally turn on cartoons for the girls in here when they are acting up and I need to be able to keep an eye on them while I work. It's usually not on if I'm not working though.
If I had a seperate office, I'd not have a TV in here. I like my bedroom to be a sanctuary. A retreat.
coasterqueen replied: I'm like that in the morning. I listen to the news (mainly the weather) while I'm getting ready in the morning for work. Some mornings the girls come in and watch cartoons while I'm getting ready too.
C&K*s Mommie replied: What I wrote above is not to say that romance does not occur if you have a tv in your bdrm, but tv can be a distraction if you allow it to be.
lovemy2 replied: Yes, we have one in our room - DH watches it mostly - I would prefer not to have it - I agree it takes away from the romance and us time in the bedroom plus personally I like to read to relax and fall asleep...
And I agree with Tannerbugsmom, NO WAY for the kids in their room - I don't even like it that Olivia has one in her playroom but there are certain times when it is off so she is with us, etc. plus when its just me and the kids home on Fridays and weekends when DH is watching I let her watch the big tv we have on the wall in the family room - just so she is with me...but she really has always played and watched tv KWIM? She plays for awhile stops and watches - plays for awhile - stops and watches - rarely does she just sit and watch anything!!
Danalana replied: We have one in our bedroom. The only time it's ever used is when he wants to watch something lame, like Bonanza But yeah, we don't use it a lot.
