Taking infants out - Taken from Jennifer's vaccination post
CantWait wrote: Just wondering if you took your newborn out of the house, say to go shopping, to the mall ect.
If not, how come? What age did you start taking them out?
Boo&BugsMom replied: I took Tanner out within the first few days of being home. I was so bored I wanted to get out and the car rides and lights of the stores soothed him. I was never paranoid about him getting sick, especially since he was born during the summer.
Calimama replied: We only took her out to the Doctor. We waited until she had her first set of shots to do any major shopping with her. I'm sure I ran to Walmart a couple times with her when she was like 1-2 months old, but a lot of the time, with Antonio's crazy schedule, I'm a single parent.
luvbug00 replied: I had Mya out and about at one week. for several reasons. 1. i had to get my drivers licences and stuff. 2. i was 18 and couldn't sit still and do nothing so she came with 3. because i didn't and still don't think it's a big deal. are you not supposed to??
CantWait replied: I was just saying in another post that people (mostly older) would get very angry with me when I was at the mall with Robbie when he was an infant. Germs apparently. I wasn't worried.
Calimama replied: I hear ya. I had a lady LAST WEEK, tell me Bella shouldn't be out yet. (I understand she's a peanut but she looks no where near newborn.) Anyway the lady stuck her head into Bella's carrier while telling me all this so I said, " They only say that for newborns because nosy people like YOU stuck their germ infested hands all over them!" and walked away.
CantWait replied: Good for you. I can't believe she'd ream you out for having her out and then stick her face up to her.
Some people just don't think.
luvbug00 replied: Ahhhhhh ok
Kirstenmumof3 replied: If I didn't take them out I felt like I was going out of my mind! With Claudia we only went out for apt.s only because I was trying to get her to latch on, feeding her a bottle of breastmilk and then pumping. So I really couldn't go too far. I think this lead me to have even more of a depression after her birth.
C&K*s Mommie replied: The earliest I can remember taking C out was when she was 9days old for her first pics. We should not have, as it was frrreeeezzzinng that evening, but we went to the mall afterwards which was right across the street from the photog studio.
Not sure about Kel, but I was lucky to have my mother watch C part time for 2 weeks while I was getting adjusted to having a new baby around again. So it may have been at least 2 weeks before we took Kellie out in public.
holley79 replied: I wait till after Annika's two week appointment to take her out and about. We had mild weather but I didn't really take her out out till she was about 6 weeks old.
blue72 replied: We didn't bring our newborns out much except for dr.'s appts and family gatherings. All were born in the Fall/Winter. I didn't keep them home for any particular reason. The weather was poor when Kyle was an infant. When # 2 arrived, it was just too much work to go out and 3 is just pure insanity. Packing them in the car, bundling them up. Not my idea of fun.
skinkybaby replied: For the most part only to doctor's apointments. She was born in the middle of the summer and down here it's just too miserable outside for a newborn to be out and about very much
MoonMama replied: I waited a couple of weeks but mostly because I was not upto it. But he goes all over with me now. I can't stay cooped up in the house for very long. And we did take him on a day trip to a city about 3 hours away when he was only 6 weeks old.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: We took Andrew out right away - to church, to wal-mart, friends house, everywhere. The first week after he was born we didn't really go anywhere because I wasn't feeling up to it but after that we just went on with life as usual.
A&A'smommy replied: I took alyssa shopping, to church, to families house she was born about a week or so before thanksgiving, and then we had christmas when she was 6wks old, and I took her christmas shopping in a town thats about an hour away when she was around 4wks old and I had a woman get all over me for taking her out I was pretty
Brias3 replied: I didn't avoid going out in general, but I did avoid the grocery store, mall, etc. until they were a couple of weeks old.
When Aliyah was born, we were still living in Hong Kong and there, its a big thing to NOT take babies out before about two months of age. (I'm not sure who could muster that!) We were down at the beach right across from our condo (we lived in a high rise) a few days after she was born because I wanted to take a picture of her and Ryan for her birth announcement. Well, you should have seen all these little old ladies wagging their fingers at me! Oops
Kaitlin'smom replied: she was a little over a week old, I was going stir crazy and told DH get me out of this house, we walked around the mall. It was winter and I needed to move with the c-section, I was told the more I moved (walked) the better.
Nina J replied: I took both my girls out when they were newborns, Odessa was less than a week old when she first went grocery shopping.
luvmykids replied: The twins were preemie with breathing probs, born in the height of RSV season so we stayed home until we got the all clear from their doctor; he even scheduled us for appointments after hours so we wouldn't have to sit in the room with other sick kids
Macie got out sooner than them but still not until about a month old, she actually had RSV straight out of the hospital. Go figure.
MomToJade&Jordan replied: I took both of my girls out when they were newborns. Although with Jordan she was a couple of weeks old because I wasn't up to going out.
sparkys2boys replied: I took the kids out with me after they were about a week old or so. LIfe could not stop KWIM.. and when you have two it happens alot more because of playschool, apts, etc.
McKenna replied: There's no reason not to take young babies out, especially if you're breast feeding!!
Any bugs the baby may pick up will b fought off by moms immune system (in a way), when mom kisses baby any bugs that baby has encountered will be present on their lips, mom then makes anti-bodies to these bugs and these are passed to baby through the breast milk, and prevent the bugs getting any sort of hold, and keeping baby healthier.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Heck yeah!
Zach was 3 days old for his first mall crawl (where you go from mall to mall... kinda like a bar hop... lol). We were out in the malls from 10 am until about 5pm... lol
Emilie was 3 days old when we hosted a New Year's Eve party... that was the year the truck crashed into our fence and landed in our yard. The next couple days after that was spent visitng family for holiday dinners and such...
Naomie was barely 24 hours old, we went to a Halloween party. The next day, we drove about 3 hours to go home ( i was living in Joliette...but I had her here, in ottawa.)
No biggie.
I'm not one to sit around and be catered to anyhow
3_call_me_mama replied: Cameron was 2 days old adn we went out to dinner with family. Kathleen was maybe 3 days old. Graham was 3 days old and i went ot a MOPS meeting adn the n church on sunday. They are gonna get germs no matter where you go.. breastfeed, wash your hands and dont' pass them around like a football and you're all set
3xsthefun replied: We took both of the girls out when they was newborns. I think Kaitlynn was only about 3 or 4 days old when we went out to Wal Mart to grocery shop. Maegan might been few days older then that when we first took her out.
