Taking tree down - When?

lisar wrote: When does everyone take their christmas tree down? I took mine down lastnight. I was just wondering. My grand-mother never takes her down till after new years. She says it bad luck.

PrairieMom replied: I started last night, all the ornaments and lights are off, but the tree box is up in the attic, and I cant get at it by myself. I hope it comes down tonight. I am going CRAZY! wacko.gif I want my house back! laugh.gif

CantWait replied: That's what my mom taught me also.

Our tree looks pretty pathetic right now, it's drooping big time, but just a few more days left.

hoosier momma replied: I took mine down the day after Christmas. I also wanted my house back. Plus, I have to work all this weekend and wanted it down before that.

BAC'sMom replied: I wait till after New Years I have always heard it is bad luck to take it down before. And I don't need any bad luck wink.gif

holley79 replied: I was told bad luck also before New Years. We always wait till Jan 1 to take it down. Not to mention we usually still have gifts for people under ours. emlaugh.gif

skinkybaby replied: Not until after New Years!

jem0622 replied: Not until after the Feast of the Epiphany

PrairieMom replied:
blink.gif Okay, please educate me. What is that?

mom2my2cuties replied:
Feast of Epiphany

Just look below the advertisments.

PrairieMom replied:
Huh. Cool! Thanks! I guess you learn something new everyday! thumb.gif

NikkiM replied:
Same here. I am leaving the tree up to decorate it for Mardi Gras!

mummy2girls replied:
wow maby thats why i have been having horrible luck every year...LOL.. i usually take it down boxing day... well i am keeping it up till the 2nd...LOL

mom21kid2dogs replied: We take ours down after New Year's. I hate to have it gone so I procrastinate!!!

gr33n3y3z replied: Jan 1st or the 2nd it will see the dumpster tongue.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied: We're tentatively planning on taking ours down on New Years Day. I HATE this part... all the ornaments have to come off and be put away, and the tree has to be dragged outside and put on the curb in hopes that the garbage man will actually take it this year, and in the process millions of needles will get all over my house. rolleyes.gif Oh well though it's worth it. happy.gif

coasterqueen replied: I've always waited til January 1st, but I REALLY want to take it down now. dry.gif I'll wait though, because I don't want to change my luck now. tongue.gif

Calimama replied:
Same here. wink.gif

Kentuckychick replied: We usually leave our tree and decorations up until the 2nd or 3rd week of January taking them down bits at a time (I hate the whole idea of just packing up Christmas and putting it away until next year all in one day). We don't put up our tree and decorate it until a day or two before Christmas so we keep it up longer afterwards... so really we're no different than those who put it up the day after Christmas... we just do it backwards happy.gif

Also, usually we wait until it's a good chance the tree would catch on fire if we keep it any longer... no sense throwing away a perfectly good Christmas tree!

mom2my2cuties replied: Well just stinking great! smile.gif Had I only seen this yesterday i would have had a stout arguement to not take my tree down!

The last thing I need is more bad. rolleyes.gif

WAIT! If the tree is lit and techincally still up just without ornaments and tinsel does that count as being up or down????

PrairieMom replied:
no doubt! Mine is still up, but it has been stripped down. Does that count? Plus most of my decorations are down, but they are piled up in a corner of the living room. So, stuff is down, but not away. Am I doomed? laugh.gif

Cece00 replied:
This. And I occasionally have left it up until Mardi Gras.

boyohboyohboy replied: I took my tree down on the 26th, I wonder if its not bad luck if you didnt know it was bad luck! I really just wanted my house back in order...its my own pet peeve

jcc64 replied: Mine comes down when I've sufficiently recovered from the Christmas/post Christmas entertainment frenzy. Sometimes it's a few days after, sometimes it's a few weeks after. This year, we're all battling a nasty stomach virus, so the tree isn't going anywhere for awhile.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Our's is still up, but I want it down now!! growl.gif My parents always took ours down right after Xmas, but DH likes it up until the 1st. It's seriously D-E-A-D and making a mess on my floors, but I will let him have his way... rolling_smile.gif

Do you know that we had our last year's tree in our backyard for almost a full year?? Is that not the worst thing ever? DH threw it back there, but kept forgetting to put it out for the garbage guys. I'm sure our neighbors love us!! But this year, we got a note on our door that a Boy Scout troop will come and recycle our tree for $6...I thought that was a deal!

Crystalina replied: We keep ours up until the end of the first week of Jan. We love having it up as we watch the ball drop in Time Square. That is one good thing about a fake tree..it looks just as good when you take it down as it did the first day we put it up. wink.gif

redplaydoh replied: December 26! I can't stand it up any longer. We use a real tree, edible chocolate ornaments, and real candles for lights so it doesn't look the same after Christmas anyway.

luvmykids replied: Probably Jan 3 when the kids are back at school, it's too messy and too many fragile ornaments to attempt with their "help" laugh.gif

sparkys2boys replied: ours came down yesterday also, I was going to leave it up but the notion struck me, and down it came..lol. DH is also on vacation so that was a bonus, he was home to help me.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I took ours down Tues morn, after Christmas. While I was unpacking from our trip, and cleaning up I went ahead and took it and the other decorations down.

Usually I wait until the new yr to take it down, or at least several days after Christmas.

msoulz replied: Mine is down today. It's a good thing I am not superstitious I guess! The tree takes up a lot of space and it's just another thing to say NO to Erin - she already hears enough NO's every day!!

MoonMama replied: I took ours down yesterday. My parents always leave their's up till Jan 1st. but I wanted ours gone. rolling_smile.gif blush.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I usually take it down on New Year's Day. But this year, I took it down on the 27th. I am going to be working on New Years and it had been up since the day after Thanksgiving. It was time.

Donna027 replied: I really wanted to start on in this week but I ran out of time. I usually leave it up till after new years anyway.

Boo&BugsMom replied: I think it was this last Wed. after Christmas.

AlexsPajamaMama replied:
same with me!! Ive never heard it was bad luck but from now on Im so leaving it up till after new years!!

MotherForever2043 replied: I never knew that taking your Christmas tree down before New year's was bad luck. Good thing mine is still up. I'll probably take it down Jan.2.
