Tax free weekend!
MotherForever2043 wrote: Tomorrow is the start of our TAX FREE WEEKEND!! Here in Massachusetts, this weekend we don't have to pay any sales tax. But, the mininum we can spend on an item in order to not have to pay tax is $2,500. I am doing all the school shopping this weekend. It's going to be a busy and full of traffic weekend Does anyone else get a tax free weekend every year? I'm not sure about all the other states.
luvmykids replied: Ours was last weekend, you got tax off any item of clothing (even formal wear to lingerie ) as long as it was $100 or less per item. Computers, up to $1000.
I ended up not messing with it, it was one of those "you have to spend more to save more" type things for me and since I'd already done my spending, we stayed home.
Have fun shopping!
Kentuckychick replied: uh... no.
I would LOVE that! I could stand to buy a few things for school and NOT have to pay the 6% sales tax here in KY (and I'm not complaining cause I know that's lower than some folks have to pay)... then again some folks don't have to pay sales tax at McD's either
It's rather annoying that every state has different policies.
maestra replied: It's 8.1% in Arizona, and we don't have any tax free weekends either.
A&A'smommy replied: Ours was last weekend BTW our tax here is 9% and sometimes more in other places
msoulz replied: Wow, that would be fabulous! We don't have one in MI, our tax rate is 6%. Have fun!!
3xsthefun replied: Nope, we don't get a tax free weekend, wish we did.
Twelve Volt Man replied: Here in NC, we have tax-free weekends, too. I've never really understood the appeal, though. If a store were to have a sale, and offer 6% off, I doubt it would draw a crowd. Advertise a tax-free weekend with the same savings, though, and people come out in huge numbers.
Cece00 replied: We had one a couple of weekends ago. Our state tax rate is 8%
Calimama replied: Crowds are nuts over tax free, and it doesn't even seem to be that much of a savings. We had them in Texas, I'm not too sure about CA. I don't see anything advertised so I guess not?
gr33n3y3z replied: we dont have tax free weekend here our sales tax went up to 7% its no longer 6% But we dont have tax on clothing here either like many states
Cece00 replied: Its not a ton of savings, but some ppl do a lot of shopping on those weekends. I easily spent $300, which saved me about $24. If you spent $1k thats $80. If you spend up to the full $2500, that is $200.
I've heard CA doesnt have them, I asked a good friend of mine if she was going to go & she said that CA doesnt do tax free weekend.
holley79 replied: Yes we get them also but I would rather not deal with the crowds. I save more money hitting the clearence racks the weekend before tax free then I do tax free.
Our Lil' Family replied: Actually the state is only 4%, it's the parish and local taxes added on that makes Lafayette 8%....we're at 9.5% here...that's where they get you. So last weekend we only saved 4%....sorry, not worth the crowds.
z613 replied: I WISH! Here in Ottawa we pay 14%....It's rediculous.
sparkys2boys replied: Nope we dont have then here at all.. ever..lol. Taxes dont get me started on taxes. Our tax here is 16% and that is tax on tax..lol.. Go firgure huh.
holley79 replied: Like I said it's cheaper and saves more looking for sales.
At Bealls I bought Annika a bunch of outfits on the 50 and 75% off racks with additional 50% off at the register. To me that is a savings and a half. I have her all new clothes for next summer.
I use to do the same with Brandon's school clothes. Bealls was such a money saver for us.
