Teacher Gifts?
Jamison'smama wrote: Jama is "graduating" from PreK and I need to quickly think of a good teacher gift? Any creative/not so obvious ideas--that don't take too long to either make or buy? Teachers.....I know there are a couple of you out there...any ideas for what you like? Anything you really dislike?
Thanks
luvbug00 replied: go to craft store and get small pre-decorated picture magnet and stick Jamison's picture in it. she'd love it.
stella6979 replied: Maybe you could put together a homemade type gift basket and fill it with supplies for her. Such as, pens, pencils, chalk, thumbtacks, paperclips...etc.
Farelle replied: Gift Card!! My friend is a teacher and she gets SO many things that it's hard for her to keep them all. Even though she loves the things the kids make something useful is more practical at times.
amymom replied: I was going to say something consumable, like bread, cake or even a fruit basket. The little things are nice, but imagine saving things for years and years. Hard to do!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: We have an excellent gourmet popcorn shop here. I've made good friends with the owners over the past year I plan on purchasing all my teacher's gifts from them. They have more than just popcorn. They can make gift baskets filled with sodas, popcorn, old fashioned candy, etc. I am getting a giftcard to blockbuster or cinemax to add to it.
ETA: I meant Cinemark, not cinemax
Farelle replied: Edible stuff is good too....but then the poor teacher will pack on the pounds!! A neighbor of mine went back to teaching full time and she looked rock hard before starting and since she has gained 15 lbs!! She blames it on all the candy at the school!!! Doh!!!!!
MommyToAshley replied: Hey Aimee... I did this for the teachers at Christmas. I got one of those round baskets that look like a popcorn tub, filled it with popcorn, candy, some coca-cola glasses and a blockbuster gift card. Ashley made a card and wrote something in it about having a wonderful movie night. It was a big hit!
Jamison'smama replied: Oooo, good ideas. There is one gourmet popcorn place but it is 30 minutes from here. I might be able to swing it. Dee Dee, did you use that as well?
We don't have a blockbuster here--small area but I think I could come up with something.
Thanks
kimberley replied: totally agree with gift card. teachers get so many school supplies, bath sets, candies etc... they would completely appreciate getting something they REALLY want accompanied by a homemade card from her student. maybe even with a pic.
redplaydoh replied: I got Lucas' preschool teacher a nice plant with this poem attached last year and she seemed to love it. Although I was the only one that got her a gift... isn't that sad? I don't know if it just isn't done here.
I chose this special present because I wanted you to know, That I’m grateful for your hard work in helping me to grow. For your constant understanding and for always being there, To tell me I can do it and to show me that you care!
Boo&BugsMom replied: Gift cards to restaurants are a great hit! If you have a teacher resource store that could be a hit as well, since teachers often spend a lot of their extra money on stuff for their classrooms. Me personally though, I like getting gift cards to places I can use on myself (Walmart, a restaurant, etc.), not something that reminds me of work. But that's just me.
maestra replied: Definately a gift card! Anywhere, I don't care! And a nice touch is a little homemade ard, but I love the hallmark ones with the "you're such a wonderful teacher" sayings , because I don't get many presents in the area where I teach.
mom21kid2dogs replied: Sorry to hijack your thread, Brenda but I am So stealing this one. I was going to make a srapbook for O's K teacher but she is leaving the profession after this year and going into nursing. I've been kinda stymied at what to do. Thanks!!!
hawkshoe replied: I get my son's pre-K teacher a book for the classroom.
my2girls replied: You could purchase an inexpensive scrapbook (include some stickers) and on the first page have a note written by your child to their teacher saying why they love her and/or their class. Then he/she can have a place to put all of her/his other cards and letters from their other students in a nice place.
Have your child make a bookmark(s) and attach a gift card from Barnes and Noble ( or some other bookstore) to it.
A bouquet of flowers delivered to her class would be a nice surprise.
A donation made in her name to a charity she supports ( a tree from Arbor day foundation , local children's hospital , etc).
A gift certificate to a local movie theathre ( enough to cover snacks as well) or to Blockbuster/Hollywood video with a box of microwave popcorn attached as well.
A few $5.00 gift cards to different fast food places presented in a nice wallet or coupon filer ( maybe even some Sunday paper coupons organized in there for them, because teachers need to make their $'s stretch during the summer).
A basket filled with stationary ( maybe monogramed with their name ) , postcards, a few nice pens and a book of stamps.
