Teeth... - wives tales....

MyLuvBugs wrote: So, I've heard a wives-tale recently, and I was wondering if any of you think there's truth to it or not.

"If your child gets a lot of teeth early (before 1 year), they will have bad teeth the rest of their life. But if they get their first teeth at 1 year or after, they will have strong healthy teeth for life."

I'm really hoping that's not true at all! smile.gif

Mommy2Andrew replied: hm...I've never heard that one before!

I hope it's not true, Andrew's already got 2 teeth!!

MyLuvBugs replied: I know. Lorelei had 7 by her first b-day. sad.gif I'm hoping it's so not true.

fashionmumofboys replied: I've never heard of it.

BAC'sMom replied: Have not heard that one before either.

Casey- Where did you get that car (picture) your son is in. It's the cutest rolleyes.gif Who is it made by?

Freckled Momma replied: I've not heard that one, either...and very doubtful it's true. wink.gif

coasterqueen replied: My dentist told me that, as well as our orthodontist.

He said it's actually bad for them to get their teeth so early because their heads are still growing soooo much and that it will only cause dental problems later in life. They told me I better invest money for their future orthodontics. rolleyes.gif

I figure I'd be in for it anyways because Ryan's teeth were so super bad, one of my girls will probably have the same issue. dry.gif

MyLuvBugs replied: Well, I'm glad someone else has heard this. I was starting to think that my mom was full of it. smile.gif True she is sometimes, but still. smile.gif lol

I agree with you Karen. My husbands teeth...actually his whole family, have the WORST teeth. I'm sure one of our kids will surely have them. I'm just hoping that at least one of them has my strong teeth.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I've heard this before only because people were trying to make me feel better that Wil didn't get his first tooth until 14 months. So I'm not sure I believe it, but I guess in my case, I do hope it's true! Sorry. I also had someone tell me once that those who get teeth early will go through puberty earlier..WHAT? I was a late bloomer, so I guess it could be true, because I also got teeth late, but I think both are just myths.

We can prevent how our children develop really, especially physically, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Mommy2Andrew replied:

Thanks! It is acutally made by hotwheels. My brother got it for Andrew for Christmas, if I remember correctly it came from toy's-r-us...but I may be wrong.

MyLuvBugs replied:
Teeth affecting puberty? Really? WOW....haven't heard that one before. That's interesting.

5littleladies replied: Lol! I just posted that my almost 4 month old has a tooth so I hope this isn't true. My husband and I both have terribly weak and crooked teeth though so it probably won't matter. As for the puberty thing-I got my teeth early and didn't hit puberty till I was almost 14 so I don't think that one is probably true. wink.gif

MamaJAM replied: My kids all got their first tooth around 6-8 months old...and they all had at least 4 before their first birthdays. Knock on wood - we've never had tooth problems or cavities -- and the older ones are 13, 9 and almost 7.

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
Same here! I really hope my kids don't get Dh's teeth. wacko.gif My dad has bad teeth too and I ended up with my moms good teeth, so I'm hoping the same thing happens for us. tongue.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: hmmm.... i had teeth by a few moths old - and I never needed anything to correct my teeth... i had perfectly straight teeth until 21 years old...when my wisdom teeth finally decided they were going to ACTUALLY grow out insteado f just poking through and I had to get them removed.

dry.gif

but i did have my period when i was 9

punkeemunkee'smom replied: I have heard this before. I hope it is not true as well because the princess got her 1st tooth at 4 months old. I have soft teeth but DH has strong really good teeth-I hope she gets that from daddy! blush.gif

luvmykids replied: My mom said I had most of my teeth btwn 8-10 mos and I never needed braces and have never had a cavity!

scattytart replied: i spoke to my mum about this old wives tale and she thinks it's a load of rubbish she said that i had my first two teeth come through at 4 months by the time i was one i had all my front and some of the back. I still remember when i was 16 and i still had baby teeth so my doctor removed them as some were rather bad but my teeth are all perfectly health now so i wouldn't think it was true (most old wives tales are not). But the puberty one may be true i was a very early bloomer 12 years old i think wub.gif

scattytart replied:
at 9 years old that was very early i thought i was early at 12 years old guess i was wronge blush.gif

coasterqueen replied: I don't know I can see more of a correlation between teeth coming in too early and having bad teeth later over teeth and getting puberty too early. bigthink.gif

MyLuvBugs replied:
ITA!

coasterqueen replied:
gosh I read my quote and realized I really botched up my grammar, lol. Had to go back and edit my original post. happy.gif blush.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I cut my first tooth at 3 months and I am nearly 30 and have had one single tiny cavity in my entire life.
