Teething - Need help :(

ashtonsmama wrote: Well, I think we're officially IN the teething stage.

It's a good thing I guess, but I miss my old baby, the happy, easy one!
He has been such a fussy, cranky, screaming mess ever since the start of this week, and now that we're home, I'm almost certain it's teeth. But is it supposed to take this long?!? He wouldn't nurse practically at all yesterday, and alot less than he usually does this whole week, he wouldn't go to sleep until about 2:30 AM this morning, and he woke up screaming at 7 AM, went back down and is still asleep. I dread waking him up, I'm just not sure what to do. Help/advice/tips/anything would be appreciated. I usually am such a calm and prepared mom, this has totally thrown me off balance, I have no clue what to do to help him, he doesn't take Orajel either...

mckayleesmom replied: Teething usually comes and goes in spurts over a long period of time. Russell will be 2 in January and he has been teething since he was 3 months and didn't get his first tooth till 9 months.

Invest in some hylands teething tabs and tylonol.

Brias3 replied: I'd probably give him a little baby Tylenol or something to help ease the pain. You might get him to nurse a little better following that as well. I used those teething tablets with Aliyah (who by far was the toughest "teether") but if he's not doing well with the Orajel, I don't know if he'd go for that either.

Do you have any of those chewy rings that you can stick in the freezer? He might like to suck on one of those and the cold will help numb his gums a little too. They might serve as a good distraction for him too.

Good luck! Hope little Ashton is feeling better soon hug.gif

ashtonsmama replied:
OK...I guess that's good news...thanks Brianne...I'm heading out to the store when he wakes up I guess, I'm desperate for anything to soothe him.

And thanks Bria, we do have one of those frozen teethers, and when I gave it to him this morning he stuck it in his mouth and then made a terrible face at me and started screaming again...so who knows. I'll try again.

Brias3 replied:
Oh no sad.gif Poor baby.

Would he go for sucking on a clean, wet washcloth or something? I know Mason always went for that- I guess the fact that it was cool, not frozen, helped.

Feel better, Ashton!

ashtonsmama replied:
Thanks Bria. I'll try it. I'll try ANYTHING at this point!

I'm off, I hear him screaming again.

And so begins the longest day in the history of parenting.

Wish me luck.

mckayleesmom replied: Also....maybe just refridgerate the teething ring....It might be too cold comming from the freezer and burn him.

My kids both hated orajel and loved the teething tabs..... rolling_smile.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: Good recco's above. I know I mentioned the teething tablets before, but those definitely worked here as well.

I do not remember being wacko.gif about the girls teething too much, I knew what it was so I could handle it. But I remember when their back molars came in. I did not know that C's back molars would be literally a pain for her. It was rough. OMG! nuts.gif those were two of the toughest weeks yet. Fortunately, the insanity was only for 2 weeks (though it stopped periodically) and it happened around the time the girls were 2years of age or so.

boyohboyohboy replied: HI amanda! I just went thru this recently, and we finally broke down and bought the hyland teething tabs, and I was nervous about them....I have to admit it does work. I didnt see an immediate response, like I thought I did, but once we used them a few times, I noticed it was helping him sleep.
I also had some luck with something called baby safe feeder. Its this little net bag on a handle that lets only small amounts of food thru at a time, kinda like a mesh bag. we got them on line, I think amazon.com, however I recently saw a cheaper version at babies r us, and I cant think of the brand name at the moment, but you can put bananas and other fruit in it and freeze it and they really like to chew it. It was more plyable then just a teething ring.

I also used the motrin, it lasted longer then the tylenol. I hope it helps and poor ashton has some relief soon! I know Jake got all top 4 teeth at one time and then the bottom two!

Then he learned to bite!!!

Good luck

pm me if u need more info. hug.gif

garrettsmom replied: Garrett's teething right now......LOVE the Hyland's teething tabs, I give them before he goes to bed, and they help tremendously!! The little "bags" someone mentioned above worked great! I put crushed ice in it and he loved it so much better than the teething rings. Motrin when it is REALLY bad, and Garrett loves to chew in whole carrots, just need to keep a close eye.

Hope you both find some kind of relief soon. It's so hard to watch them go thru so much pain bawling.gif

Good luck

ashtonsmama replied:
Thanks Brianne...

I'm going to try the Tylenol when he wakes up this morning...another late night for us all. He didn't stop screaming until at least 3 AM.

Thank you so much Stacy, I hadn't heard of those frozen food baggies! That's a great idea...
wink.gif
I'll PM you. I'd love to know where to get one!

ediep replied: I'd check his gums for red, swollen, sore, or white spots just to make sure its teething thats bothering. If you are sure, go get those hylands teething tablets and some baby tylenol. You can use them together. I used to put Jason's teething rings in the fridge, not the freezer. Maybe that will help some

Good luck!

holley79 replied: Annika finally has the starts of a tooth coming through. It's a pointy little booger. I jsut used tylonel when she seemed cranky. Hope you get some relief.

AlexsPajamaMama replied:
Cold wet wash cloth and tylenol is my advice too
It's awful to hear them in pain when there isn't a whole lot you can do hug.gif hug.gif

7thHeaven replied: Oh No, poor baby! And mama! The teething rings worked really well for Samera, she wanted nothing to do with them if they weren't frozen solid. She also seemed to like the teething toys. Hope you find something to soothe your little one with soon!

Boo&BugsMom replied: We gave Tanner frozen baby dill pickles. We also gave him Motrin instead of Tylenol because it worked longer and more effectively on him.

7thHeaven replied: Amanda, how is Ashton doing? I hope the little guy is doing better!

Sam sends hugs & kisses his way! wub.gif
