The Boy is still sick - Going to the Dr. this morning.
PrairieMom wrote: Before we left for vacation the Boy got sick, and he still has a bad cough at night. The poor thing coughed about every 3 minutes last night until it finally woke him up at 11:00. The cough is worst when he is laying down to sleep and when he wakes up. I was hopeing he was getting better, but it has been 16 days since the cough started. I finally decided it was time to take him in. I hope it isn't anything to bad!
My2Beauties replied: Sorry "the boy" is sick. What is your son's name BTW?? I hope he gets to feeling better!
Debra replied: I wonder if he has bronchitis? I just had that a few weeks ago. I always coughed worse at night to the point that I was going to gag, couldn't sleep & thought I'd pee my pants (sorry if that is TMI). I did that every day/night for about 10 days & then finally went in. My lungs hurt so bad! I have asthma & they've never hurt like that before. I got on some antibiotics & a few other things. Within a few days I felt much better!
I hope your little guy gets to feeling better soon!
PrairieMom replied: We are back from the Dr.'s office. She said she wasn't really sure whar was wrong with him. He has conflicting symptoms. we decided to just give him some cough medicine so he can sleep. His lungs are clear, and he has no fever, so we will just wait this thing out! he also got his flu shot today. ( he is not happy with me! )
BTW, his name is Benjamin.
ammommy replied: I hope he feels better. Does running a humidifier help at all?
Debra replied: I hope the meds work for him! But I am surprised they gave him a flu shot with a compromised immune system. We've always been told not to get a flu shot when sick. Hummm!
Get well soon little Benjamin!
PrairieMom replied: Well, the magic cough medicine worked, sort of. It was supposed to make him a little sleepy, ( ooohhhhhh....nap in a bottle! ) but he ended up waking up about 5 times last night. At least he wasn't coughing! He usually wakes up at 6, and he is still sleeping now, at 8:15, so I guess it must have a delayed reaction! Poor little guy!
sunshine girls replied: Do you call Benjamin the Boy all the time? just curious.
Anyway, I hope Ben is feeling 100% soon.
PrairieMom replied: Yup. When I talk abou thim. When I talk at him he is Bug, or Ben. I've been getting a lot of questions about this lately. Is it driving y'all nuts or something?
sunshine girls replied: Not to offend you or anything, but it reminds me of that book by Dave Pelzer, A child called It. His mom called him It or the Boy. I don't know if you've read it.
I really like the name Benjamin, I know a few people with kids called Benjamin. I automatically just call them Ben, except for on of them, because his mom yelled at me But its a nice name.
msoulz replied: Early this year my 6 year old son kept coughing for no apparent reason - clear lungs, no sinus infection, etc. We started to think it was some kind of habit he had formed as opposed to a medical reason. After three trips to the pediatrician with no solution, I finally took him to our family doc. She suspected allergies but drew blood and found a mycoplasma was the culprit - she was very surprised herself. So a week of antibiotics and the cough went away - this was after probably 3 months of this coughing. I think sometimes the peds don't pay much attention as so many kids are coughing and sniffling unless there is a fever or sore throat. We get concerned because he has had strep throat a few times, and once without any symptoms - I made the ped swab (much to her disgust at the time) him because my husband and I had it and I figured all of those good night kisses probably gave it to him too, and I was right.
Anyway, I share this because I wondered if they had done any blood work or anything like that. It doesn't seem like our ped would have done it if not by the third trip!!
Needless to say, we have been taking him to the family doc since then.
PrairieMom replied: Eew. Yeah, I read that book. Thats a very yucky comparison. Nothing like that going on here. Its just our term of endearment for him. Don't worry, not offended. That was just a very tragic story.
5littleladies replied: Poor guy. I hope he is feeling better soon!
