The Juju begins

I am going to call it the the Jolly Juju....
PrairieMom replied: very nice.
HuskerMom replied: Looks yummy
My3LilMonkeys replied: All that fruit only makes one glass of juice? Wow, I don't know what your produce prices are like, but around here you're looking at about $10 worth in that glass.
It does look very good though.
cameragirl21 replied: It's a very tall glass. I go to vegetable markets for a lot of the fruit. Remember we don't have a winter here so fruit prices don't really go up as much as they would by you. In principle, you should try to avoid fruit only drinks and add veggies and fruit, and use less expensive veggies and fruit like carrots, apples, celery, cabbage, beets, tomatoes, etc. I am working on that too but for today, it's been one of those days so I opted for a fruity drink. And I was tempted to add a shot of vodka to it....
Nina J replied: Looks nice.
I get my fruit and veg from a market, too. I could make that drink for about $3 - 4.

MommyToAshley replied: I agree, fresh fruit is expensive around here. It does look really yummy Jennifer, but I must be really odd because I would prefer to eat the fruit itself. I don't care for fruity drinks, but I love fresh fruit. I'm just weird though.
CantWait replied: [QUOTE=cameragirl21,Jan 28 2009, 08:13 PM] right here. This was absolutely delish--one mango, one prickly pear, one kiwi, 2 clementines, 2 handfuls of blueberries, 1 handful of strawberries, and 1 handful of grapes.
Jen, how much would all that fruit cost you?
cameragirl21 replied: I can tell you almost exactly--the mango was 88 cents, the prickly pear was 69 cents, the kiwis were 6 to a dollar and I only used one, the clementines were on huge bag for 5 dollars (there were at least 30 clementines in that bag), the blueberries were two large containers for 5 dollars, ditto the strawberries, and the grapes were 1 dollar per pound. So the total comes to about 3-4 dollars, closer to 3 dollars for the drink. And Dee Dee, I too love to just eat fruit but the beauty of juicing is you can mix things you'd normally never mix just to eat and it goes well. Normally I'd not use just fruit but like I said, it was one of those days so I made something really yummy and different. Hence the juju....
PrairieMom replied: around here that would be more like a $8 drink. Its so expensive to get fresh produce up here this time of year.
here is a question, what is the difference between an orange and a clementine other than size?
Mommy2Isabella replied: Oranges have Seeds and Clemenines don't
Im sure there are other differences but thats my FAVORITE difference!!
I can't get that much produce for that price here in SC. Maybe at the farmers market!
PrairieMom replied: the oranges I eat rarely have seeds. Aren't clementines just to darn small to bother peeling? kind of seems like a waste, like the use more calories than they give you.
Mommy2Isabella replied: OK So they taste a little different. The aren't that small. LOL! They are like the size of a small apple. I was thinking, who eats oranges with seeds anymore? LOL
PrairieMom replied: the ones we have here are small. Like the size of a medium-ish plum. They just look like more trouble then they are worth. Maybe I should try one.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I always thought that JUJU was like MOJO....that and for some reason JuJu Juice already stands out in my mind.....
Tara clementines are usually a little sweeter too. I love them for Taylor because they are perfect little sections when you peel them (and they are easier to peel)
cameragirl21 replied: a clementine is kind of like a tangerine, looks just like one but is sweeter. Juju refers to a charm that has magical powers which is perfect for me as there is a famous line from Shakespeare's MacBeth: "eye of newt and toe of frog, wing of bat and tongue of dog, adder's fork and blindworm's sting, lizard's leg and owlet's wing, for a charm of powerful trouble, like a hell broth, boil and bubble. Double Double toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble. Seal it with a baboon's blood, then the charm is firm and good. By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes." I have always been described by those who know me and who also know that quote from Shakespeare as that charm of powerful trouble.... so I figured Juicing Juju would be the perfect name for my blog and I did a search yesterday and no one else is using that name.
