The Lapband

mckayleesmom wrote: Has anybody here gotten it or know someone who has? Im just curious....Looking for some pro's and cons.

Is it an actual operation..?

lovemy2 replied: My understanding is you have to be 100lbs overweight to even have it considered to be covered by insurance - otherwise its about $25,000 - there is website...

mommy~to~a~bunch replied: DH & I went to a seminar on that & gastric bypass. The risks and dietary limitations were too much for me, I'd never get it done. DH was thinking of the GB, but decided against it too.

Crystalina replied: I want to do that! I was just thinking about it this morning on the way to my ob appt. I almost want to put on whatever weight needed (believe me it isn't much dry.gif ) just to get it. I'm so lazy. rolleyes.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: There is a dieting website/message board - www.3fatchicks.com - that has a section specifically for people who have had or are considering weight loss surgery here. If you're really thinking about it I would recommend reading it - there is a lot of info and advice on both the good and bad aspects of it.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: Everytime I diet I think how much easier it would be to EAT until I was big enough to get it rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif rolling_smile.gif I would get the lapband done light years before Gastric. I have had several friends who have gotten gastric and blink.gif huh.gif wacko.gif The side effects are HORRIBLE!!!!!!!

mckayleesmom replied:
Im not sure about NOW....but I looked at their website to see if I qualified once and all I needed was 20 more lbs...it was tempting.. laugh.gif

A&A'smommy replied: My mom just got the gastric bypass about 3 weeks ago and she did a LOT of research and she joined a forum and talked to a BUNCH of others that have been through either the GP or the lapband. BTW 3 weeks and my mom has lost nearly 30lbs she feels like a WHOLE new person and she is MUCH happier!!!

obesityhelp.com is where she did a BUNCH of her research and received a LOT of help and support!!

Crystalina replied: I read that some insurances will cover it but it's not to say the doctor will accept it. Such as medicaid and a few other names.

holley79 replied: There is a forum of women who have had both surgeries done at extrapounds.com I am down 20 pounds with excercise and diet alone I would much rather work hard to get it off then have surgery because then you have to have other surgeries to get all the excess skin taken off. No thank you.

Crystalina replied:
True. You get blubbery.

mckayleesmom replied:
Hey Holley...Did you hear tricare is covering it now? I heard that somewhere.

holley79 replied:
Tricare does pay for Curves but I'm not on Tricare we have United and Blue Cross. smile.gif
