The gloves are OFF! - IL rant
coasterqueen wrote: I got an email forwarded to me from my husband. The email originally came from my FIL who let us know that SIL decided to have her boy's 1st bday party at 11 am next Sunday. Okay that would be all fine and dandy but 1/2 of the family is in or attending a wedding that evening at 6 pm. So some of us have to be at the hall early before the wedding etc. So she wants to have a bday party at 11 am and then an easter egg hunt for hte kids (since we couldn't do it on easter) afterwards. Uh....when is my child supposed to get a nap and when is the rest of us going to get an down time before the wedding. It's going to be ONE LONG day.
Normally I wouldn't be angry because I would plan my child's bday party when *I* want it, but come on. The party is only for the IMMEDIATE family and 1/2 of us have to be in or at the wedding later that day. Couldn't she have made it for Saturday????
Then she sent a list of things for Zephyr because we asked what he would want for his bday and she picked out things like those fold-out couches or chairs...BUT NO LICENSES CHARACTERS. Where in the heck do you get one of those kid fold-out couches w/o the characters unless you order it from Pottery Barn or something. Uh no.....!
What made me even more mad is my DH responded to the email saying that it was no problem to go to the bday party at that time and easter egg hunt was fine and he volunteered me to do all the bday shopping for us and his other SIL, whose traveling from Georgia. Uh.....I have two kids to take care of during the day I don't need to be running around town doing EVERYONE's shopping.
Sooooooo the gloves came off and I sent a semi-nasty email to all the family regarding the whole thing. DH is going to be so mad and it's not going to be a very nice 2.5 hour drive down south tonight but I don't care anymore.
Okay, now I feel better.
kit_kats_mom replied: that's absurd & she should know better. I'd be the most upset w/ dh for volunteering you though. I have an "easy" baby & k's in daycare but I still have a hard time leaving the house. Boo Ryan!
spit in his soup tonight for me!
mammag replied: That is nuts! You would think she would have wanted to schedule it another time to increase the likelyhood of people going. Well, I think it's good you said something to the family. And I would be upset too be stuck shopping for others when you have 2 little ones.
Hope you have a decent ride...mad dh or not...he should have said something himself.
GavinsMommy replied: I think you're right in being angry. What was the problem with her scheduling it on Saturday when she knew everyone had a wedding to attend? Birthdays are important, but weddings only happen once, and I just don't see why she couldn't work around everything. About the chair thing...I think she is expecting a little too much because all things like that are expensive. She should buy one herself.
gr33n3y3z replied: she should have just moved the day

coasterqueen replied: Thanks Cary for the link. I knew there were places you could get them, but most of them you have to order from and I'm not paying shipping plus the expensive price of the item itself. I'm too cheap. Actually my SIL is the cheap one. She got Kylie a $15 gift card for Christmas and $10 cheapy computer game for her birthday. Although it's not the "price" that matters, I just can't justify spending $70+ for something when I can't even afford it right now.
I would have gladly gone to TRU and bought a fold-out couch for $35 but they have a licensed character on it. And she doesn't want that.
Oh well, I already got his something anyways.
A&A'smommy replied: My goodness Karen you are a LOT braver than I am!! I would be angry too though and whats wrong with having characters on the couch and stuff that is just ridiculous... oh well I hope it turns out to be fun anyway!
TANNER'S MOM replied: Zephyr...unusual name and for travia purposes is actually the make of a car...incase u didnt' know.
OH NO way..that is too hard on a Mom, w/ a new baby. To much going at one. I would order on line and tell the gift would be delv due to the short notice of the party!

Kaitlin'smom replied: sheesh long day
Kaitlins fold out couch is not a character one I got it at toys-r-us its pink with butterflies and flowes best thing I ever bought her, I think it was on sale to. I think I have also seen them at wal-mart just plain colors
sorry you have to deal with this, hope things calm down a bit and it turns out to be not as hecktic as it sounds, reall I a am sorry
ammommy replied: Is she just mad because she isn't going to the wedding? This sounds like a bit of an "up yours" attitude on her part. If I'm reading it wrong, oops....ignore me.
I hope it all works out for you.
kimberley replied: why would she do that? the last thing i would want to do before a wedding is attend a crazy kids party! i am glad you spoke up... maybe you are not the only one who feels it is ridiculous to make it the same day. good luck on your drive and surviving sunday.
