The people I work for - care about no one
My2Beauties wrote: I am so pissed right now! Excuse my french! We are under a winter storm warning, they are calling for up to 12 inches of snow here and yet where do you think I am, at work and they aren't letting people go home early! Ugh they have no regard for anyone's safety and they're still saying that if we call in tomorrow due to inclement weather your supervisor can try to say that you won't get paid for the holiday due to calling in before the holiday.... I'm like I live on a dead end street where city vehicles cannot even fit on our street and if we get a foot of snow I am as good as stuck buddy you can guarantee that!!!!! I'm so furious right now, I was already 30 minutes late this morning because of traffic and weather....what if we have like 6-7 inches by like 2:00, they are still not letting us go! A bunch of big companies downtown have already let people go home! I hate this company sometimes!
Kaitlin'smom replied: well my DH is a contrator at the Iams CO they are closing the offices at noon, but his company is not so he is forced home and loese a 1/2 day's pay.....I hate his company........all he got for christmas was a card and he has no had a raise since 2000 maybe one day he will really get fed up and find a new better job
and I should not be here at work either I live 1/2 hour away and I am the one who drives Kaitlin to and from the sitter...I am hoping to go a bit earlier than 4p to try and get home for the night safe and sound
Boys r us replied: Welcome to the Corporate world my dear!!! The bank I work for, never closes..not for christmas even! 365 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day! We have had blizzards here before and they won't close! and if you can't make it to work, you better hope you have PTO b/c if you don't then you will get put on probation..even if there are 6' of snow on the ground!
TANNER'S MOM replied: I am in the same boat guys. I have a drive from hell 7 miles dirt road up a hill. And the county doesn't work on the dirt road ever. I guess if it gets real bad I can leave, but I wont' get paid. So, I need the money pretty bad right now.
I wish companies realized what they do to there employee's when they say and do these things. It's about safety and morale more than anything. If you are sitting and worrying about getting your kids home, how productive are you anyway????
aspenblue1 replied: My company is that way also. They close certain department but we never close so I have to take a sick day since I am not going in todya.
maestra replied: We don't have any weather problems here, but with my dh's company, if you call in more than three times in a 6 month period, you get put on probation. It's automatic, doesn't matter why you were out or if you have pto to cover it or anything. And in order to get off probation or to clear the absenses you have so that you don't get to 3, you have to go 6 months with out calling in! (You can schedule days off, but can't call in sick or anything)
The worst thing about it is- my dh works in a hospital, where people are always getting sick! At one time, my mom's (she works at the same place) entire staff was on probation for attendance. What good does that do? I wish these corporate types would actually think before making up these rules.
My2Beauties replied: It's really sickening, the radio stations and news stations are coming on there asking businesses to let their employees go home, and still I sit here working! It's ridiculous! That is why I hate Corporate America, I wish I worked for a small company sometimes!
mummy2girls replied: Wow! I am so sorry guys! Work sucks big times when times like this happens...
MichaelsMommy replied: That is so bogus Sorry your stuck, I hope you can get home safely. Maybe come up with some kind of excuse to get out of there that they can't call you on? Sick child?
Maddie&EthansMom replied: DH works for a small company and he still has to work in this weather. He has an hour drive under normal conditions...I hate to see what tonight and tomorrow looks like for him. The roads will be icy and I worry about him driving all that way. I'm certain they won't even let him come in late. In 15 years DH has NEVER ONCE called into work sick or any other reason. They don't have PTO, sick days and have very few vacation days. Scotty never misses work. He never takes vacations. This is why I am a SAHM. I would get fired so fast for all the times I would have to take off work with 2 kids. His job would never understand him taking off for a sick kid. That is what their mother is for. He is there 6 days a week, 12+ hours a day and still that is not enough. When the babies were born he took off one day and was still on the phone with them the entire day our children were born. It sucks. REALLY SUCKS!
I'm sorry they won't let you leave. I hope you get home okay and are able to make it into work. I've been there. They have a wait and see attitude about it. "Plan on coming in and if it is too bad in the morning just leave early to make it here on time. If you miss work, you better have PTO saved up or you will get docked a days pay." or my favorite is when they tell you to go home early or close down the next day but still dock you for missing!!!
Josie83 replied: How Christmassy of them . . . not. Sorry to hear this LeaAnn - what scrooges! xx
My2Beauties replied: Sheesh he is the model employee....but that would wear me down. I have been here for 6 months and have taken 2 vacation days already And I called in sick once and left early twice! I'm a bad bad employee But when you have kids sometimes things happen!
