There went my small amount of candy - idea
mckayleesmom wrote: I just got back from the store for more eggs and candy. Russell and Mckaylee didn't get to go to an easter egg hunt because ...I must have missed them all. They were all held on Friday and Saturday......What ever happened to egg hunts on Sunday...you know...Easter????
So I only had 12 eggs....I was planning to put those in their basket...But Mckaylee mentioned being excited to search for her eggs tomorow...Tonight I filled the eggs and I thought....This is going to be a sucky hunt...I only had 12 eggs....So off to the store for more eggs..and of course more candy to fill them.
I really need to stop being more excited about these holidays then the kids...
Is anyone else like me?
When I was a kid the holidays were always exciting to get something and I never thought I would be ok without getting something..kwim?...But I get all excited for every holiday to get things for my kids. Most of the stuff I buy them is stuff I wish I would have gotten as a kid
mckayleesmom replied: By the way...before the lecture...There is not alot of candy in each egg....I bought more candy for variety more then quantity.....I still only devided movie box size candy up....
Calimama replied: I get excited about holidays because DH is usually home for them! I also like the way holidays FEEL. A lot of people with their families, big meal, stores are closed, just an overall neat feeling. It's more about the family time than it is about the stuff.
Calimama replied: They are your kids, no need to explain. Besides you have to deal with the sugar high!
mckayleesmom replied: Ditto...for me its about a feeling. When I was growing up we were pretty poor...I come a family with 6 kids...so times were tough and money had to be stretched at all times......However...My mom always made sure that we had great holidays...Even if she didn't spend alot...she made it look like it did.
Calimama replied: That's neat.
I hope Miabella looks back and sees how our holidays were filled with love.
Wow that sounds cheesy.
mckayleesmom replied: There isn't that much candy.....I also usually let them take so many eggs and the rest have to be put up and portioned out....
Hello....Im not insane...
TrulyBlessed replied: I usually get really excited about the holidays. Every year for Easter, I have the girls do a scavenger hunt for their Easter baskets, but I didn't do it this year. I actually forgot about coloring easter eggs until yesterday when I was at the store and seen the egg coloring kits. I think for me, I've just been under too much stress this year. At least MIL is having an easter egg hunt at her house for them tomorrow.
mckayleesmom replied: No its not...Its what holidays are about...family. I remember one xmas my mom couldn't afford anything...let alone presents and my older sister who was an adult by them stepped up and made christmas amazing for us that year...
Some odd years later...I did the same thing for my younger siblings when my mom was having a hard time.
So to me....holidays mean alot of different things to different people, but overall meaning is family.
Also..the things I bought are things my kids not just want....but the things that make them them...kwim? The things I bought them show that I listened to them when they talk and nobody knows them better then their mommy. The things that I bought them were not expensive at all....but totally things that they would like to have. I don't even have to wonder if they will like the things that I bought because I already can hear Mckaylee saying "your the best mom I ever had" or Russell saying "these are awesome"...His new word is awesome btw.
I know alot of people think that most holidays are too commericalized....and they are probably right..But my kids don't get alot througout the year otherwise....maybe toys here and there, but not too much by far....And these are my times to show them that I know who they are.
mckayleesmom replied: We didn't color eggs this year either.....We usually do, but today we went to chuck e cheese for a birthday party and we were all pretty wiped after....We had a great day together though.
MoonMama replied: I agree about the holiday feeling. Growing up my parents always made a huge deal about every holiday, and it was never about the stuff....just the feel, the whole family getting together, the love, what the holiday represented, and so forth. Which is why we make a huge deal out of them with Braedin too.
moped replied: I just like to see the happiness on Jacks face....so yeah I do too
But I certainly didn't go all out on stuff for him. I hide some chocolate eggs and a bunny and a Thomas train around the house and that is it
sparkys2boys replied: I always worry I don't have enough to! And I agree, I spoil the boys WAY to much but ya know what it's my choice and we are good with it!! They are only small once and I love seeing there faces and how excited they get!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: How sweet!!
I really didn't do ANYTHING for easter. I didn't even buy one stinking piece of chocolate. Not for lack of $$.. I just didn't bother. Heck I still have chocolate in my freezer from last year...
