Theres a new womens pants size
Donna027 wrote: I was channel surfing and caught a segment on CNN about how designers want to make a new womens pants size. Apparently there going to come up with a size "00" which is from women who cant fit in a size 0 and have about a 23 1/2 in waist line Hearing this made me very sad and mad about where society is going today. Right away I started thinking about Patricia and what she was trying to do What are designers thinking?? They dont think this new size is going to last long since almost no one is this size. And I hope it doesnt last
Kaitlin'smom replied: how sad then what? so if women want to be 00 then whats next -1?
gr33n3y3z replied: 00,0,1 that just makes me ill
but then its prolly geared for kids that are not quite 0 and they would fit into a 00 Who knows how ppl. think
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Yuck.
C&K*s Mommie replied: On one hand I can understand what designers are doing. That is cutting clothes larger size but having the sizes reflect a smaller size, thus making the woman happy to think that maybe she is losing weight and will be more inclined to buy more clothes.
On the other hand, having size "00" could very well have an impact moreso than our youth seeing superskinny (sickingly skinny) celebrities everywhere and wanting to be like them. Having smaller sizes could backfire big time.
Simplebeliever replied: Donna, I'm sorry about your daughter and what she went through.
Having said that, I am one of those poeple who would need the new size. I'm not quite 5 feet and very skinny. I don't work out and I love junk food. No matter what I do, I can not fill out. I have to buy my clothes from the girl's department and for a 25 y/o to do that it can be very embarassing, not to mention I have a heck of a time finding professional clothes.
I understand your view point and I agree. Society has put way too much pressure on women to be a certain, petite, and unhealthy size.
punkeemunkee'smom replied:
WHAT??? Are you saying I am NOT a size 4????
The 00 pants size is disturbing but I have seen it at the Gap for about a year...I don't understand the emaciated model look-Bill and all of my friends husbands say it is gross and the girls that are so thin are not attractive but look more like concentration camp victims I received an eamil from a friend the other day with pictures of runway models...It was so SAD! I would post the pics but I don't think they really belong here-they were disturbing!
mckayleesmom replied: Well, although it is sad that some might be starving themselves to fit into these clothes, there are woman who naturally need them. My sister for example. She grew up really chunky and loved her sweets. When she hit puberty...she started rapidly losing wieght....She had other symptoms also and my parents were trucking her from doctor to doctor. She was dropping like 5 or 6 lbs a week and I know she was not bulemic or anorexic.....I remember shopping with her once and she couldn't find any of the size zeros in any brand that would stay on her.
Eventually the rapid weight loss stopped and she gained a little back, but was still around a zero.
luvbug00 replied: Yeah um this size has been at american eagle and pac sun for a while. In fact it is the size that i get my jeans in from thase places. without it a one would be too big. I'm no skinny minny but i am small framed. I'm glad they are making this size I'm sick of belts and stuff like that.
mom21kid2dogs replied: Not to diminsh your point, Donna, but their actually are women who can't wear that size who are not anorexic. My roomate when I was single had to get a custom made wedding dress because a 0 was too big on her (I mean WAYYYY too big). We shared a house and believe me, anorexia was not her issue! She was a very petite woman. My best friend is the same way. The woman out eats me everytime we go to dinner but she has a metabolism and me~well~not so much. She is 5'2" and weighs 89lbs. She shops for clothes in the girl's department when she can find them. She wears a girls size 12. She's a 40 something girl like me so shopping is an insane challenge for her. She has to pay to alter everything she buys, cannot buy off the rack, etc.
IIRC, desginers are also serving a much bigger market these days~plus size clothing. I really can't say if anorexia is a growing issue in the US (vs heightened awareness) but obesity is certainly not being altered by what the designers are putiing out there.
moped replied: I work with a girl that size.....and she is just small. She eats and everything. She has a really hard time finding clothes to fit her - so ther eis another way of looking at it!
mckayleesmom replied: I have a friend like this too....she is so tiny....her 5 year old son is almost the same size as her...
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Both of my sisters are skinny too (missed that gene pool) But they are not annerexic-they are just thin
A&A'smommy replied: blech woman who wear that size make me sick I would love to be skinny again.... anyway yeah I know a girl who is about 5'2 or 5'3 and the is 85lbs and she eats very well and doesn't throw it up she just has a very high metabolism she wears a size 12 in childrens
cameragirl21 replied: not to take away from your point, Donna but i have a pressing question--is there a store that sells this super fast metabolism everyone here is talking about? i'd like one of those please.
Donna027 replied: Yeah where do you buy these fast metabolisms??
grapfruit replied: EBay?? : )
My2Beauties replied: OK, I don't wear a size 00, 0 or a 1 for that matter but I do wear a 3 (Ok not now with preggo belly here) but FWIW, I think anorexia is a horrible awful disease and people need to be aware of it more so than they are, but I don't think making a 00 will cause more anorexia among our teenagers. I have been thin my entire life and I eat like a friggin pig, I'm surprised I don't weight twice as much as I do honestly but everyone in my family on both sides is very petite so it's just in the genes I guess. I do know girls that are super super thin and can't find clothes to fit and they eat like I do, so it could be a legitimate size for people who really need it.
MissyKay2005 replied: Yuck, 00 or 0 is way to skinny. I hope it will not last too. I was only ever in a size 2 and that was to skinny. I was killing myself trying to stay there. I feel for those that are going through the hell of an eating disorder. I woke up after becoming pregnant with my oldest son. It was hard battle and still have little issues now and then. the media makes it hard when advertising skinny skinny women and making it seem the life is so glamorius when it is not that at all.
holley79 replied: My SIL is a 0 and the are loose on her. She is T tiny and eats like a horse. I do remember when I was in HS it wasn't cool that I was a size 12 even though that was my body structure. I got down to a size 10 and my dr stroked out. I'll be happy with my fluff. I wonder if the media realizes what they are doing to our youth?
sparkys2boys replied: I guess the new size is good if you naturally need it, but it's the commercial side of it all that sends a message to young people that they need to be super skinny. Awarness is the key.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I've already seen it in stores.
ETA: I didn't read the other replies until after I posted. When I was in jr high I wore a zero and it was too big. I wanted the older look...things they didn't make in children's sizes. Now you can get all those same styles in the kids dept. Back then you couldn't. Anyway, I can see how some people would need it.
luvmykids replied: Once upon a time that was me too, and I hated the stereotype that because I needed a size smaller than a 1 I must be intentionally harming myself to be able to wear it.
I have no idea what my "true" size is, but I admit I like stores whose clothes fit me in a smaller size
TANNER'S MOM replied: Well on the 00 issue.. This size has been around for a while. I know lots of girls including Brittany who wear this size. It's about the same size as a girls 14..but with longer legs. If you notice the waist is the same but the length is longer that way a small framed woman can wear them.
Brittany likes them b/c she can wear more Adult framed pants..she has curves like most woman but is just about 85lbs. She does not have an eating disorder she is just tiny..and wants to be bigger.
Brias3 replied: I've seen this size before too. My good friend's sister wears it, she is T-I-N-Y but is completely healthy, eats more than adequately, etc. God, I can't even imagine being a size 4 or 6 ever again!
Cece00 replied: I'm gonna have to agree with this.
I dont begrudge anyone who is naturally super thin (even though I am not ) and I dont begrudge ppl who work hard to be thin (but not TOO thin) and if they need this size, good for designers for making it. I dont think its good to be anorexic or to want to be anoxeric, but I think this is good for ppl who really NEED the size.
