They got a little gator in our backyard yesterday
kit_kats_mom wrote: Here is a link to the video...it may take awhile to load. And yes, I know it's not the best quality. I was filming though the screen on our porch. No way was I going out there!
The big one is still on the lam but one of the smaller ones, a 4 1/2 footer, took the bait on Friday night and she was on the hook when we woke up. I called the gator man and he came out. Katherine even got to touch the gator after he was all taped and tied up. DH took her out there. My heart literally stopped for a split second even though I knew she would be safe. My baby touched a dinosaur...fancy that.
There is more bait out now...still wanting to get that big fella. http://www.carywright.com/200605/20060520 4.5 foot gator capture.wmv
You have to copy and paste the whole link from http thru to wmv for it to work
C&K*s Mommie replied: It is telling me the 'page cannot be found'
kit_kats_mom replied: try again. It just finished loading
kit_kats_mom replied: oh, and the gator actually thrashed around for a good 15 minutes in the water. I just cut a lot of it out for times sake.
C&K*s Mommie replied: huh.... I still cannot view it. It is still saying the page cannot be found. I will try later.
coasterqueen replied: I liked the touch at the end.
I actually felt very sad for the gator after watching that video. They are just living how they are supposed to, we are just taking over their territory.
Anyways, if I lived there I'd probably be frightened enough to not want them there either.
So was the one in the video threatening anyone, are they allowed to catch all of them? I just wonder if there is any laws protecting them at all.
kit_kats_mom replied: I know Karen. I was kind of bummed that the smaller one took the bait. He said he was going to release her away from homes if she didn't swallow the hook. I'll never know but I've convinced myself that she's free in a people free swamp somewhere.
The little one wasn't threatening anyone. However, the trappers can't say who's going to take the bait. He will keep hanging it until the big aggressive one is captured.
Since their population has come back so well, there are no laws for their protection, only ours. It is illegal to feed them and it's illegal to hunt them outside of gator hunting season.
ilovemybaby replied: Yikes. I'm glad I don't live in the US! No, just kidding... it's probably not that bad. I don't think I'd be able to handle a gator or bear though. We don't even get snakes here!

There. I took the spaces out so now it should work without copying and pasting.
amynicole21 replied: I finally got that last link to load - Wow! Stan looked tired
I feel kind of badly for the gator, too. I hope she is enjoying her new digs in the people-free swamp
C&K*s Mommie replied: I concur with feeling badly for the gators, and us humans who have encroached on their habitat. I hope that gator is happy and free somewhere else.
I like that music that you have put with it, Cary. That is great that Katherine was able to touch him, after all. I would love to get close to one too, of course only while he has his mouth taped up, and someone sitting on his tail. ~~~~ How long do you expect till you hear back from the HOA about the fence?
mckayleesmom replied: It wouldn't work for me either.....I tried copy and pasting, typing it out.....it just doesn't like me
My2Beauties replied: I got to see the second link, wow I love the way you put that together. I feel bad for the poor guy too. It's only in their nature to be the way they are, they are carnivores. But gotta protect our children too. It's just sad both ways. I hope the little man is in a nice people free swamp! That was a really cool video Cary.
ashtonsmama replied: Me too--glad it's not just me.
holley79 replied: I grew up with gators around all the time. We really are invading "their" territory. I really felt sorry for her there toward the end. I hope she was rereleased in a swamp somewhere. I wouldn't want her in my backyard either, mainly because I have doggies and baby.
Adrienne522 replied: Wow....amazing video. I loved the music that you added. Why that song???
CantWait replied: You did a great job on that video. I felt so bad for that poor little gator, I can't wait to see the big one though. Good Luck on getting him, Gator dude there really is going to need more help for that one.
MichaelsMommy replied: Wow that was so cool. Scary for you though to have that in your backyard! Yikes
