This REALLY irritates me...

MommyToAshley wrote: I may have mentioned it before, but it came up again when I was watching the Super Tuesday poll results.

Why do the news channels break down the poll results by gender and race? It shouldn't matter what gender or race the candidates are, and it shouldn't matter what gender, race, or ethnic background the people are that vote for them. It just irks me that the same people that talk about a country that treats everyone equally are doing things that I think are divisive. I don't see any other purpose in reporting these statistics. If there is another reason, please enlighten me. Maybe it's not a big deal, but it still irritates me.

luvbug00 replied: i don't know about he relivance of race or whatever, all i know about that and the government in general is it is messed up. Here on a speeding ticket there are only 2 options black and white. us latinos are concidered black. rolleyes.gif the government needs to eliminate this race thing they have going on.

MommyToAshley replied:
I don't understand the relevance of gender or race on a speeding ticket either. If you committed a crime and ran... therefore they need a description to find you, then yes it relevant. But, why do they need to even know that to process a speeding ticket?

Kaitlin'smom replied:
for a speeding ticket they use it for statictis and insurance compaines (not just auto but life as well) can use this and tons of other information when determining rates.

but for political it should not matter

Calimama replied: It's ridiculous. The news guy last night said, "When we come back we have some interesting news about the Latina vote in CA this year.." blink.gif

A&A'smommy replied: I agree it should NOT matter dry.gif

jcc64 replied: It matters to the media b/c it makes their job more "interesting." They love to stir up the pot b/c let's face it, following politicians around the country for months on end, listening to the same stump speeches day after day, probably gets pretty boring. So, they like to make their own news, which I think is very devisive and destructive, but that's what they do. Instead of investigating real issues that we need to know about, they make up their own.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
This is close to what I was going to say. It's meant to stir the pot. I don't like it either.

lisar replied: I am with everyone else. I dont care about it so normally I dont watch that part of it.

holley79 replied: This is so the candidates can see who is and who isn't going to the polls. Who is and who isn't supporting them. This way they can get out and politic to that particular gender/ race/ religion.

It's stupid and annoying but it's the "American Way". dry.gif

holley79 replied:
We have to have the race and gender for statistics. We don't have a check box we just have a box which you place W B H A O.

austins mom replied: that is a weird thing but who knows...

choochoo replied:
Yup.

Plus, various groups who represent various genders, races and religions can make or break a candidate based on whether or not the candidate is paying enough attention to the gender, race or religion they represent. Does that make sense?
